AM always keeps me guessing. I never know what her next sound is going to be. I like that in an artist, as long as they keep that thing, that essential quality of sound or writing or whatever, that makes them who they are. For Alanis, I think it is her ability to take the most mundane thought or feeling and make a crazy awesome song out of it. And that's why I'll always come back for more of her. She's one of my favorites.
I also love all of her songs and don´t think the other albuns weren´t so good as the JLP... she is always amazing and bring us some surprise with the next album. it´s so exciting. I´m just looking forward to the next album!!!!
Was a huge fan of Jagged Little Pill long, long ago. Now I've recently rediscovered Alanis. And I'm kind of sad I didn't keep up from then. Of course I was a child and had no money when I first heard my sister playing JLP so that wasn't really an option then. Now of course, though, I get to listen to the awesome for the first time.
Alanis can express every aspect of life in her songs. She's a genius. Guys also try her songs- 'no apologies', 'wunderkind', 'versions of violence', you owe me nothing in return', pray for peace', 'dear prudence', 'it's a bitch to grow up', 'madness', 'on the tequila',.....................
" jagged little pill " was a great album, but " supposed former infatuation junkie " was a much more stronger album ... lyrically and sonically ... supposed former is my all time favorite album by alanis followed by " under rug swept ". " so called chaos " only hadda few good songs on it, and a great first single ...
i love alanis and all her albums, and yes FOE has been her best album in years. too bad it hasnt sold over a million yet!!! alanis deserves better than that!!!!
I think the problem a lot of fans have with SFIJ is that they expected it to be Jagged Little Pill, Part II and it wasn't so that automatically makes it bad. *eyeroll* However, if it had been just like Jagged Little Pill they would have complained that it was just like JLP. Same thing happened to Tori Amos. Either way artists can't win.
You Know.....If Infatuation Junkie Was Just Like The Pill.....I Wouldn't Have Bought It....!!!!....SFIJ.......Is A Very Serene Album!!!!.....Which Is WHat I Like About ALanis!!!!!
@AJMusicgirl Exactly. & SFIJ is by far my favorite record of her's. She just sounds so at home surrounded by grit and rhythm and eastern flavors. Though FOE was also breath-taking. But it's so true. I don't know why people can't accept that artists do and should grow and evolve. There's not a chance in hell that I'd have preferred Under The Pink II over Boys For Pele. People just need to shut up & roll with the punches. Thank God that we are blessed with so many talented women. :)
@AJMusicgirl You are absolutely right in your analyis. If "Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie" had been released a couple of years later, as opposed to directly following "Jagged Little Pill", it probably would have sold much better. In terms of not only the sheer quantity of songs, but also depth of emotion I actually prefer SFIJ over JLP. Alanis, like Tori manages to present something unique and different with every recording. Just one reason why I appreciate the both of them so very much.
@AJMusicgirl Perhaps it should have been. I think SFIJ was too sophisticated to come after JLP. She had just reinvented herself and was new to the music scene. IMO, she needed one more JLP type album under her belt before releasing it. Then she would have had even more fans follow her.
Joining You should have been the first single!!! And Unsent should not have been one, I think songs like Unsent and Can't Not are for Hardcore fans only. But MAD songs from SFIJ were radio friendly like: Front Row, Baba, Thank U, I Was Hoping, Would Not Come, Joining You....BTW SFIJ is my all time fave album!!
OMG I KNOW!!! You know how Jagged Little Pill got successful? Becuz of the angry "You Oughta Know" and the subtle "Hand in My Pocket" for being the first two singles. Think about it.
If "Baba," which sounds like an angry song, and then "Thank U" followed "Baba" as its second single, I bet everyone wouldve been buying her cd ASAP!
After "Thank U" should have been "So Pure" and then "Would Not Come."
Oh, I agree completely. If "Baba", "Front Row", "Thank U", and "So Pure" had been singles I think the sales of SFIJ would have been so much higher than they were. :D
I think "Front Row" is too exotic and weird for radio. And plus "So Pure" was a single. She even made a video... im just sayin that there are songs here that could have been a mirror to the singles from JLP. But ah well. We're 10 years too late lol
yeah i'm agree... i think the promotion album wasn't right... they sould release a rock song first to promo SIFJ like Baba or Joining you the a subtle song like The Couch or TIWBG, like URS Hands clean is rocking n subtle at the same time but the lyric helped because what it's says...bout SCC i think they should release 8ES first then OIT... n for FOE the first single could be Versions of violence then i hope it'd be INCOMPLETE or TAPES...

Why wasn't this released? WHAT IS THE STUDIO OR ALANIS OR WHOEVER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR PUTTING OUT SINGLES THINKING!

I LOVE this song!!! One of the best from SCC! It always baffles me why the best songs aren't released as singles :(

I couldn't agree more! I'm convinced that that's why SFIJ didn't so as well as it should have.

YES! SFIJ is the best album EVER!
