That counts if you have a frontal crash, when you go from 50kph to 0kph immidiatly. If your theory would count with every crash, than how is it possible that motoGP guys survive crashes of 250kph.
@arsenedevos No shit. MotoGP guys survive crashes mainly due to teh fact that they usually just slide on the asphalt or grass. She crashed into a moving car that was moving in the same direction and it was a collision to her side. Those increase survivability.
In my opinion it wasn't a matter of life or death. More of how badly she would be injured. :D
She's pretty cool! And pretty skilled as well! I don't ride a bike for this reason but I know a lot of people who do...I always give at least twice the distance between a rider and me as I would for a car, and I always look out for bikers, as anyone should. Well I'm glad to see she's doin' good, and yeah, always being prepared really does help!
@nipponoholic if you look closely, the guy locked up the rear tires first meaning he was pulling the handbrake. if he was using the foot brake, he would lock up the front first meaning he would lose control of the steering wheel, the car would go straight on instead of starting to slide sideways into the other lane.
@sunnyjason The foot brake engages all 4 brakes, which is why at burnout exhibitions drivers clamp the rear lines, so the rear brakes don't engage when you press the brake (it would burn out the brake pads). When you brake, the weight shifts forward, which reduces traction on the rear wheels, but INCREASES traction on the front wheels. If he skidded, then turned the steering wheels, he would have gone straight. If you turn, then skid, it puts the car in to a spin.
have you ever tried to turn while the front locks up?
if you have then you would know when the front locks up its very hard to make the car turn because the front and rear braking force ratio. in the video when the smoke came out the rear tires the brake lights were not meaning he was not using the foot brake.
@sunnyjason Yes, did it on the driver training course, in both a 2000 Toyota Camry with ABS disabled and also a 1990 Honda Integra. You go dead straight - it's a standard demonstration by instructors. Here's several other possible causes of smoke: Tires incorrectly inflated. Uneven grip between front and rear tires due to tire wear, different models & brands of tires between front & rear. Car was not properly maintained. Braking not set up correctly.
@nipponoholic in the video an easy give away is you watch the brake lights and the smoke because hand brake doesnt light up the brake lights. it takes a lot to smoke tires means he pulled up the handbrake way before he hit the foot brakes.
@sunnyjason Assuming he reached for the handbrake to stop that is a possibility. Nearly everyone with regular driver training will try to push the brake through the floor though. Seriously, do you, or anyone you know, reach for the handbrake when someone brakes suddenly & unexpectedly in front of you? Sadly, the light conditions & quality of the video make it near impossible to see whether brake lights come on or not with absolute certainty. You can barely see brake lights in adjacent lanes.
@sunnyjason When the car turns as it skids, the front tires still have more traction until the car turns more sideways. As the car spins, it slowly loses traction on the front tires, and gains traction on the rear. If it has a high center of mass and enough traction on the tires, the car will flip (e.g. SUV). In this case, the car had a low CoM, so it slid instead. I highly recommend advanced driver training, they let you do these so you know what's wrong, & then teach you how to do what's right
@nipponoholic your theory applied ONLY when the tires are not locked up. we call it trail braking in moto racing moving the force to the front to increase front grip when turn into a corner. however if you lock up first then you turn, it would not work because when the tires locked up, they dont provide any side grip enough for the car to turn.trail braking can only happen when the tires are NOT locked up.
@sunnyjason I hope that explains why the rear tires smoked first, not the front, or if that's not enough gives you enough reason to take your driving to the next level, do a driver training course and ask a qualified instructor to explain it to you. They're some of the most patient people, and you'll never regret doing the course if you ever have to use the skills you develop there.
@nipponoholic on a stock car the front brakes have 70% of the braking force and rear has 30%. it would take a lot to lock up the rear before the front locks up.
How selfish can you be to do something dangerous like that just to avoid rear ending somebody, just brake, rear end the guy, have insurance take care of it and start paying attention to the road so it wont happen again.
Not brake and swerve dramatically to avoid hitting somebody, just making a bigger mess of things.
Its also crazy that in these days dominated by liars and cheats, you have to videotape your everyday life in case of the he said/she said argument.
Damn, I ride that way back and forth to work everyday (55-5-57)....I'm actually heading out now. Thought that freeway looked familiar. Glad you made it out alive!
Anyone here remember the movie Mad Max? Remember the first movie when Max and his friends were chasing some dude called "The Night Rider"? For a moment it looked like he was the one that slammed on his brakes and skidded in front of her.
I'm REALLY GLAD that she is O.K though, and I hope she got her bike repaired (or replaced) and is back out riding again soon. : )
Fuckin people man i swear.. ive had 4 bikes i get rid of them for the same reason IDIOTS LIKE THIS ON THE ROAD.. but alas ive bought another.. guess if i die on a bike its meant to be.. ILL HAVE THE CAM!
What she did (I've seen it before) is she leans the bike onto the kickstand, and uses the kickstand itself as a fulcrum.
Haha, I tried to do it with my 1980 CB400, needless to say, the bike's TOO heavy for that!
@globox12345 She's probably 1000X the rider you'd ever be, The actually warning to all of us is: Beware: Car crashes are 1) dangerous, 2)Happen fast and 3) Suck for Motorcyclists.
How did she turn bike around in the garage like that? It looked to me as if she picked it up, but that is not possible. I watched it over and over. I have ridden motorcycles for over 20 years and never saw anything like that.
@globox12345 i AM asian, but your comment would've been offensive to anyone... dude she fucking wreaked on her bike because of some idiot in a civic. people in cars don't realize how they can kill some one so easily.
@globox12345 no worries man... i took it personally, cuz i gave up riding about 2 years ago cuz my friend almost died in the same way except on the freeway. i'm going to get a bike again soon, but stories like this just piss me off.
That model Honda Civic will not lock the brakes up unless the ABS fails and even then, the front tires will only lock up... The rear tires on that model Honda will only lock up like that if the emergency brake is pulled by the operator... Just my $.02
sorry for the extreme late response. but i was just thinking about it and i think it could happen if there was a drive shaft failure on the passenger side causing the passenger side front tire to suddenly lock up / seize while still accelerating from the driver side etc. probably not what happened but just an interesting though. Also, that model year ABS was an option I believe.
@SatanicMurderer they teach you how to do emergency brakes without the ABS when you are taking your license, atleast in italy. Fuck, if you drive a car you should know how to manage your car...
@adampage007 Somewhere in here theres another video that shows an even better example of how little time you can have to react. A deer runs out in front of a bike and there are all of 3 frames showing the dear and only 1 of them is before the accident.
@olstar18 I've seen that one as well. Hearing stories about this stuff doesn't do nearly as much good as watching a video and seeing how in just an instant an accident can happen.
Chances are if you went left it would be straight into another car. Whether it is in a car or on a bike, changing line in traffic to avoid one collision risks bringing someone else into the whole mess with possibly worse consequences.
@pauljh74 That's only if you put yourself in a position where changing lanes is dangerous. Driving defensively means you try to keep at least one lane on either side open in case you need to turn into it. But her instincts to raise her legs, let go of the handles and tuck, duck, and roll were amazing.
@DeathThanDisgrace Your an idiot right. Notice the smoke from the guys tires and the fact that she said he locked up his brakes trying to slow down because of the vehicle ahead of him slowing down.
I was in a motorcycle accident. Lady made a left in front of me at an intersection. Flew quite a distance. I know what she felt when on the floor. I thought I was paralyzed also because I couldn't move my legs. The cops told me to try to wiggle my toes which I did and they said "don't worry". Nothing broken....dislocated shoulder, bruised ribs and tailbone, and a couple of gashes in my leg. God Blessed me with just a memorable experience.
I almost got run over by a bus last monday... motherfucker pass on red. Lucky I was going slow. I jump off the bike cause I hadn't time to brake. Me knee hurts a little.
I have to say im glad for the girl to have done so well. she handled it like a pro, not much you can do at that point. and for the guy driving the civic... ::: shakes head::
