@elbryan42 Which do you like better, Quake 1 or Quake 2? A lot of people seem to like 2 but honestly i prefer Q1 because I find the gameplay, weapons, and levels were more interesting. 2 had a lot of base environments and was very much a doom clone in look, but 1 was only like that in the first map of each episode (4 total), all the others were either medieval, or an otherworldly runic style. That, and the music i felt gave a creepy, surreal feeling to the game and made it a bit more immersive.
I'd say I almost love them equal. Most of the time, I default to Quake 1 though. It's just so much more fun to just jump in and play for a while. However, Quake II's better as a whole campaign.
yeah Quake has been a weird series so far. First they go with this dystopian "futuro-medieval" theme in Q1. Then Quake2 goes completely in another direction with sci-fi/star-trek kind of stuff.. an alien species "strogg" invading the earth, then earth counter-attacks etc etc... after that, they made Q3 mainly for multiplayer, not much story here... then, they decide that Quake4 is a sequel to Q2.
At least from the ending of Q4 it looks like Q5 will follow the "strogg" thing....
@delt01 Actually, John carmack said he was considering doing a true sequel to Quake 1 - since Quake 4 was made by Raven, not ID, we weren't really sure what ID was gonna do for Quake next. And it seems like a Q1 sequel is next, which makes me a verry happy camper. I love the atmosphere and environments in Q1 completely.
@jackoneill45 awesome, awesome.... was just checking out the old DOS Q1 right now -)
oh i saw on your page you're working on a final fantasy remake project or something? Never was a rpg player myself, but i've always LOVED the music in them, esp. FF tactics and FF7!! If you need a musician (mainly guitarist, bassist(clumsy) tracker/sequencer, composer, etc etc....) to help with some audio stuff, just write to me :3
....reminds me of the HOURS and HOURS i spent watching my brother play these FF games, resident evil, and others.... he was way better than me, so it was much more fun to watch him play, than to try playing. heh GOOD OLD TIMES... are gone so fast =_(
What we do, is make them last... (rhyme/pun non intended) anyway, check out the Schism Tracker project, a remake of the good olde IT.EXE by australian programmer/musician Jeffrey Lim ....and stuff like deimos.ca/track/contra.it
this was the best of the consule versions. but there isn't a good consule version saturn's was a bad joke, low resolution and not particularly fast (though i still play it from time to time)
psx didnt have one, which was a massive massive over sight in there catalogue
n64 is fantastic, but comes no where near not even in the same solar system, to glquake on the pc through a 3dfx card with the resolution turned up, for playablity and content cant beat the bog standard pc realese either
you have the saturn version too, cool, I got a dreamcast version, which I think is a port of the PC version.
is a good version, already played a lot of Nintendo 64 version too, was the first I played, I'm curious to play sega saturn version, spoke that the textures were great at that time that the game came out.
(A version of Nintendo 64 in my opinion is better, because it had a more vivid color, water was also good and had some exclusive songs and noises that were really cool
@justinsfhc They're not from "Duke 3D." They're from a library called Sound Ideas, series 6000. Many of the sounds in it have been used time and again in movies and games. Doom, Duke, and Quake use them prevelantly.
Aside from the PC stuff like Modding, increased multiplayer, Quake for the 64 was the best single-player version in my opinion. When I got this I was amazed as it even looked better from GLQuake. Good times...
while the n64 recieved a port of Quake that was just as good as the pc original, I can't help but wonder what could have been if ID got a decent programming team to do the port instead of the cheap and rubbish Raster. It could've looked so much better and probably featured 4 player otherwise.
yeah the musical score for this port is very good. they also had colored lighting before the advanced engines you see now. I played Quake on n64 first actually.
Yesssss! I've still got this!!! I wish it would port over 2 xboxlive with some co-op play! I'd also heard that a verson was ported over 2 the dreamcast. I'll have 2 do a search!
i say instaed of creepy sounds in the backround (as well as in Doom 64) they should have made better music maby something to pump your adrenalin cause im constently putting my music over the games music
The ambiance of the music is great to be honest, it gives you the feeling of being in hell - plus, you are rewarded with the most amazing music ever upon completing a level
yeah thats true, just my opinon, maybe settle both worlds? scary durning levels and pumping during bosses? i hate hiding in the corner cause the music scares me T_T
yeah this is definitely a great port, this is how I was first introduced to Quake as well. I still play it regularly on the PC using advanced engines Qrack and ezQuake for Quakeworld. its interesting how these consoles were the first to include colored lighting on Quake =]
btw, that looks like a bad ass skyscroll for e1m2. I gotta find quake 64 at a used game store around me! or ebay :P
lol this is very true, but that was when i was a kid, game develipors should go back to there roots and remake thease games with beter graophics, just dont change much cause they'll screw somethin up xD
quake saturn was better

Actually, the PC and Saturn version's music is by Trent Reznor. The N64's music is by Aubrey Hodges.
