wow this has gotta be a joke.... im a music education major and i cant BELIEVE someone would try and explain/demonstrate these concepts this way... i KNOW how to play afro cuban music of many styles and even I'M confused lol
It's like watching some twelve-year-old beginner teach you how to play drumset, especially when they're FIRST starting and they already think they know everything.
lol i understand very well this concepts, displacements overriding on 3 5 7 etc to the cascara clave mambo and so on....... but honestly i got confused here, lol.
@CUACHALOTE They probably use this video for psychological torture in Guantanamo. Real troublesome prisoners probably get a good dose of this guy's version of "Guantanamera"!! LOL
Did someone just say 'Carasca'? Ok. First up: It's 'Cascara', which is simply a term meaning 'shell' ie. the shell of the timbale which is what the rhythm is played on. Secondly: there are many different types of Clave. Just saying 'Afro Cuban Clave' is not only the wrong term but is also misleading. There is 3-2 Son clave, which is what is played here. But, there is also 2-3, rumba 3-2 and 2-3 and a 6/8 clave. If you are going to try and teach something through Utube, at least get it right.
After seeing a few of their videos about drumming, I'd like to think that expert village is some sick and widely misunderstood joke, but after looking into it, i'm pretty sure it's simply the travesty it appears to be :-/
Can someone tell Mario here that the "Afro-Cuban" clave is in 6/8, not 4/4? Send him a copy of "Afro-Cuban Rhythms For Drumset" by Frank Malabe and Bob Weiner. That'll give him nightmares about misnaming rhythms. Oh, AND it will help him correctly spell CASCARA.....lol.
This is latin jazz, afro cuban music have been around for much longer than the drum set, and clave is the root rhythm that is the back bone of the songs, the clave DOES NOT CHANGE, unless it moves from 3/2 to 2/3, or from son, to rumba, and from 4 into 6. Even if you are not playing the clave, in cuban music it is always there. until you learn how to play these rhythm's on the traditional percussion instrument you cant really understand how to play them on drum set, and your CASCARA is wrong!

Yes its true. This is not correct. That clave is not the afrocuban clave, even if its cuban.
Its called Clave de Son, or Son-Clave.
You also have Clave de Rumba or Rumba-Clave, which sometimes is called La Clave Cubana, but tha is not what he is playing here.
And yes, Corasca is incorrect, its called Cascara and it simply means "shell" as you play on the shell of the drum.
