This seemed to be a lullaby my mother use to sing to us a lot. She was an existential and first generation Swede. Anyway, in the last ten years the meaning of that song has become more apparent. Bjork captures mom's angst. Thanks you, Bjork. [PS this was from the Gling Glo session which is ironic because mom's nick name was Glo.] Thank you poster.
@masercot Bjork has about the same range as Streisand in this piece. And of course, Striesand had one of the best versions of this song of all time. So I don't agree with your statement. Range doesn't matter. It's all about tone and interpretation.
Instinctive or worked out her ability with jazz phrasing and choice of notes is excellent, and the little flurry of blue notes at the end took it back to earth surperbly,
thanks so much for posting this! i love bjork, and it always amazes me how she can sing ANYTHING so well....such a versatile genius of a singer/composer/performer/inspirational woman! so thanks pituslandia. nice photo montage as well! she's also so freaking beautiful!!
I may be oversimplifying but some of the most brilliant, inspiring, haunting art has been a product of anger, pain, bitterness, lonliness, revolution etc.
You can't say what you've said without admitting you just, maybe, don't like her because you just don't like her. It's got nothing to do with how artistic she is or is not.
@Antkoff I admire both Madonna and Björk, they're VERY different, but they're the best in their kind of music. Madonna has a few stupid songs but has a lot of AMAZING songs with AMAZING lyrics. You only have to investigate some more to give an opinion like that.
Great artist in her own right, but I can't help feeling like I'm watching a little girl wearing her Mum's high-heels when I compare these cover versions to the singers of yesteryear, they were just so full and talented back then. Not to take anything away from Bjork, I think she's great.

Bjork doesn't have the range for this song. Julie London could hit the low notes that this piece requires...

She is boring, and angry all the time. That is not beeing artistic, that is beeing ungrateful. So many people want to reach out with their message.
She did, and says thankyou by beeing rude.
She is ridicoulus!

Fair comment i'd say.
She has a very young image and has an innocent simple look on things.
Shes one of the greatest, creative artists of the 80's - 90's - 2000.
But yesteryear artists who do you class as yesteryeard artist someone like Nina Simone?
If so then yeah, someone like Nina Simone is un-debatable for a real music lover.
But i feel shes done some better covers than some senior artists.
