I found this far, far more enjoyable than I should have. Seems incredible how long ago this was, I remember running it on my 386 and thinking I had quite a powerhouse.
Not sure what you mean by synthetic piano... adapting anything to piano should be the same experience whether the piano is acoustic or otherwise. In any case, I did the adaptation on an acoustic many years ago, and I wouldn't say it was difficult. I just notate the parts I think are most essential, since I don't have enough fingers for all of it.
As you play, my mind flashes with the scrolling patterns of st3! Me, a geek? heh! I cant believe that almost 16 years have passed, and I still keep listening to this tunes!
It's hard to imitate Purple Motion's composition, especially on a piano, but you did alright. ;) Viewership probably won't be hight. thank you for making this for the rest of us.
The color plasma/smoke panels that fall off? I like the notation there too and I've figured out the quick 16th notes part, but I haven't taken the time to add the underlying melody.
Yes, there are very nice melodies in various parts there that also have beatiful effects, the melody on the beginning another way to scroll, in the plasma/smoke, in the voxel at the end, very nice melodies. And also the instrumental music from Skaven in the intro and outro 3d city would be great for the piano I think.
To those asking for the rest, I can only play through the one scene that follows ("Another Way to Scroll") - after that it's mostly techno filler with little melody so it sounds boring on the piano.
I've a chiptune version of this song and i learned to play some parts/riffs, but it was no good. You should play the rest of the song too ;o on my opinion, it's far more better.
Actually I think you misunderstood the idea. I figured this out on the piano 10 years ago just for fun. The idea of the video was just to record it for posterity, not to enter it in a contest.
Skyrider is another track by Purple Motion, but it wasn't part of the Second Reality demo. There was no graphics demo with Skyrider that I know of... but if anyone else knows otherwise please say so!
lol, yeah... if you never saw the original demo it won't make sense to you. But it's something I learned back in the day and I still play it from time to time, so I decided to put it together with the demo video.
0:49, this was my favorite part

Great job!
This is unfortunately not yet part of any piano lessons... :) Perhaps one day, among other classics.

Was it difficult to adapt a techno piece to synthetic piano?

I think the 3d part after the scroll is the one that has most interesting melody for piano, this one is more techno. I think.
