Always liked this song - remember hearing it on the radio in the late '80s (I was 10 or 11 when it came out) and calling the radio station DJ to find out who did the song, since he didn't announce it on the radio....
I remember a girl on the school bus, WAY back in the 80's when this song came out. She was homely as sin and always wore a Walkman (showing my age here). She started screaming because this song came on, then sat back and listened and looked like she was utterly in love, like the guy was singing to her. That's my memory of this song.
Too bad we don't have music like this anymore. The 80's were so much fun! Everything nowadays is all about bitches, weed and money. Creativity no longer exists in music.
Dude, what a sword fight that was! For Ric would've made this outstanding & highly dedicated member of the famed, fearsome & viscerally inspired Knights Templar (that deeply religious warrior sect, comprised of these die-hard fanatics, that emanated from Northern Europe back between the early 1100's till about 1300, & whose sole purpose, besides making loads of money, was to serve the Catholic Church & protect Christianity from all those smelly & crazed barbarian hordes!)! I'm so full of shit!
The lyrics are beautiful and I love the video's theme. May be was it inspired by the movie "Legend" that came out around that time. It is also the only song I really like from that singer :)
First heard this song on a programme here in england called no limits, recorded the video, and taped it.Only within the last year was i able to get the album this side of paradise, all good things come to those who are prepared to wait.Brilliant video and song.
Such a beautiful song in every way. Musically, it is layered with instruments that you can pick out one at a time. The background vocals are superb. Lyrically, it is exquisite and poignant.
Absolutely beautiful song....i almost forgot this song until Confessions of a Shopaholic....video does not really match song thou....anyways great tune
You are joking...really??? I knew it...I even felt like, Tears for Fears must have something to do with that. Gosh, I love that song and I love Tears for Fears. Wow. Thanks for letting us know that.
Beautiful solo hit from the Car's strange- looking lead singer. Wondering if he's still married to Paulina Porizkova- the Czech model who stared in the video's "You Might Think" & "Drive"-?
I'd like to dedicate this to Orr....I love the Cars and this song means so much. Thank you guys...you really are the best...thank you. I can't even write right now... love yall.
I forgot about this song until I heard it at the beginning of " Confessions of a Shopaholic". I recently seen the New Cars with lead man Todd Rundgren. Although Todd is awesomely talented, The Cars are not without Ric.
it came out the same time as Tom Cruise LEGEND movie. This video cool little video has ten times the emotion and and better tune than that piece of shit fim!!! UNDERRATED SONG AND VIDEO!!!!!
If any foreign invaders ever threaten our shores, and evil barbarians assail and gather at the gates, don't ever worry because the ever gallant Ric Ocasek will save the day. For he will fight for YOUR rights, for YOUR honor & for YOUR sanity, or die trying in the process, no fears and no regrets. Yes, Ric will drive all those bloodthirsty ghouls & fascist cocks away, swinging his sword with this passion-inspired fury, cutting down all angry tyrants & commy psychos. For he's Emotion in Motion!
For those wondering, on the album itself this #15 hit in the US was because on, "This Side of Paradise" a couple of songs were helped out by his current (at the time) Cars band members. In particular, the credits for this song show the following: Elliot Easton (Guitar), Greg Hawkes (Bass), Greg Hawkes (Keyboards), Greg Hawkes (Vocals (Background)), Benjamin Orr (Vocals (Background)). With that supporting cast, wouldn't you expect a Cars song? I would. Still, it is one of the band's best.
Heard this at the start of Confessions Of A Shopoholic, been looking for this song for about a day. Finally found it such a good song, havent heard it in a long time.
Hey, at least it's not as, uh, "graphic" as the spaceship collision scene in the Cars "You Are The Girl" video. Oh, awesome songs both of them, by the way.
This song is amazing and reminds me of High School.. The 80's were the best decade in music.. Rick Oscasek proves this! He's incredible as a solo artist, as well with the Cars..
What a great year this was! ( 1986 ) my life was so much better!! the fall of 1986 i was in the 10th grade!! I think of Sheri Korp!! She is still the greatest woman in the world!!! Great SONG!! Great times!! KING OF THE MIX 1986!!!|!||!
in 1986 , I was 24 years old going to about 4o Met games that year , otherwise this song rules deep within our hearts reminding us of better times then than now , lets go mets !!
It is such a beautiful song. It was in time in the 80's which was a gentle, peaceful, and exciting decade, unlike today wrought with strife, anger and selfishness.
This song will forever hit home in my heart , from our great past to the trouble times we all are suffereing in this global crisis -- Otherwise , I luv this song big time !!
I've always wondered why someone would label a love song from a man to a woman as "gay", but would most likely think of ultimate cage fighting with 2 men grappling as "manly."
Actually I hear it all the time on XM Radio, especially the 80's station.. They replay the top 40 and I heard it on there about a month ago and I had the biggest flashback from High School.. What an amazing song and artist Rick is.. Have a good day...
