This album should be more like Blackwater Park, Ghost Reveries, and less like Damnation.
Don't get me wrong, I love Damnation, but I feel as if it deserves its own pedestal and Opeth should record no more albums based on soft tones and melodies.
This album doesn't sound like Damnation. If the album deserves its own pedestal, why would it emulate BWP and GR? Blackwater Park is great, but one of their more overrated albums; Ghost Reveries is a very good commercial album, but Still Life, Damnation, and Watershed, imo, are the quintessential albums. Watershed was definitely a good direction to move toward after Lopez and Peter left. I think Opeth and PT have influenced each other for the better, where Opeth gained a lot of textural value.

So you just proved my point. It sounds like the noise of what a toilet makes when it is having difficulties flushing. Hence "guttural". LOL. Your so cute when your retarded. :]
I think this may be my favorite song on watershed. All the riffs are amazing. This album was awfully "acoustic." some don't seem to like this way. Personally I think every song on this album is a big hit, except coil. That one just doesn't hit home for me.

Why the fuck whould I want attention from pathetic Opeth worshippers? I came here to give my opinion and I am insulted by fools who revolve around one band in their musical lives. Tragic.
I keep writing because it'd be rude not to reply. Despite my many insults, I could be nice. Sometimes. Seriously though. Instead of searching for the best band and claiming Opeth is the best, listen to other music.
mirrorthrone are starting to chalenge opeth a bit know... i like mirrorthrone, the newere stuff from gangrene though. Dont get me wron i love opeth and i hope they keep releasing kick ass origional albums until they die... long live opeth!!!!
this is such a pretty song. Heir Apparent is an amazing song but i can see where some might think its a little too mainstream death metal. To those peeps. Don't worry Opeth will always be Opeth. I hope. I love this band it maintains its own personality rather than falling into the stereotypical genres.
i think the organ sounds synthesized... it's not powerful enough and it has a computery sound to it. It would be awesome if it was a real organ though.
the organ track is pretty transparent throughout the song. there is definitely synthesizer tracks but you can really hear the organ at the fadeout at the end of the song. sounds just like a church organ to me with all that reverberation.
watershed is still alright but i think heir apparent is maybe a little too much "mainstream" death... i hope they don't become too regular and still keep the opethness =)
I think this album might be tooo good.I cant stop listening to it ,it consumes me. I was so impressed with this entire album. They continue getting better . No other band can claim to be better than opeth.

The band, sure. But some guy candidly offered his thoughts as to the power that OPETH retains on account of their soulfulness.
Really, just an unthreatening remark about musical expression and he got two thumbs down. Ok, so it's meaningless, except that it illustrates vapidity worth dismay.
Unless you're just stirring. In which case... Get funny next time.
My mistake, never saw your conversation with this individual, guess I shouldn't jump into an argument so freely. Ouch, wait up. You think I'm correcting you? Hell no. This is how comprehension can break down in the typed word. No implicit tone. By "Get funny", I meant the people who "downed" the guy's worthy comments. Not at you.
It's funny, because I'd never say or imply that anyone shouldn't state their mind. But as you say, when someone is unwarrantedly stung, it's worthwhile wtinging back.
I too, have weak discipline when I'm incensed by insults directed at obviously important bands like OPETH.
Damn I LOVE Opeth's new album...this is probably the best since Blackwater, I think Mike is a really good addition to the band...his solos are sick as HELL...
omfg... this song is beyond amazing... i had chills down my back through out the song... how do his lyrics always manage to make so much fukin sense.. brilliant work by Fredrik.. but i miss Peter..
the ending part of this song should be a bit longer and fade away just like the song "a fair judgement" so that the album would end with an orgasmic climax!! freakin awesome song!!
I was actually worried they would do like they did on AJF first time I listened to the album, ridding the sense of triumph. The fact that they don't makes this ending so perfect. Actually, the last 3 minutes after Per's piano-interlude could as well be the best ending of an album ever; 5 of the most talented musicians in rock playing it cool, letting the music speak for itself, after a journey of mind-blowing, over-earthly compositions. Opeth are truly qualified to say they're the best band ever
Satanicca, from what I've heard...only listened twice now, but I'm getting this notion the album is about a woman ailing and then dying because of the negligence of the caretaker dude(husband? who knows) and the politics surrounding guilt, loss, accusation and finally deflection of emotion based on what's happened. Deals with the children too...not sure.
I think the accompaniments and arrangement pushes this cd beyond just a metal album. More like a novelette with a soundtrack. Goddamn!
after reading the lyrics from the posting of these songs, i notice that there is a reference of the words "mother" and "children". so obviously there is a sense of tragic loss in this album. also, i mentioned this before, i read the reason why the lyrics weren't printed out on this album is because it was a bit too personal for mikael. so maybe this is something he's gone through personally. we may never know. but his lyrics never ceases to amaze me!!
Am I the only one who think ths is the best song on the album? I just love it to death! I am a huge fans of their whole discography, but there is something very special about this song; I dont know what.
Yea its too bad peter's done, but after all this time I really doubt that he's coming back, he's lived his dream already, Habing Fredrik is just making things more interesting, and they're progressing more than they have before in a more interesting way
Where?According to the lamentations documentary, they decided who wanted to play a solo more and if one was having difficulties they would pass it on to the others, does that not imply that he would have had more than just a few solos given that he had been in the band for nearly its entirety?
Peter and Martin L. made this band complete. Their new stuff still sounds great but stylistically different. It'll take time to get used to but only because Deliverance and Blackwater Park riffs and melodies are stuck in my head as the standard.
Nice comeback there. Let me retort: Are you fucking retarded? I liked Peter more than Mike. His solos aren't as good as Peters. Therefore the solos aren't as good as the ones before so I am disappointed. What's so fucking wrong about it? Peter is bluesy and Fredrik is more metal. I prefer Bluesy.
i'll admit i was skeptical of this album at first and i admit i would have liked to hear more screams, but overall i think this is one of their heaviest albums, but more importantly, more musically developed, more artistic. truly progressive.
I saw one of the first shows with Axe, he is good. He gives opeth more punch. That said, Lopez had a smoothness and a grace to his playing that made Opeth really unique.
Both are fantastic but I give the slight edge to Lopez. Hope he recovers and gets his life together.
Opeth is one of the bands which only gets better and better. I love all the Watershed songs I've heard so far. The melancolic riff that braks off the vers on this song is just awsome (1.26), I will off course also order the album;)
The leaks are from promo copies of the CD that are sent out to various outlets so they can do advance media promotion such as reviews. Even though I have heard the songs, I will be purchasing the Watershed SE, and I already have a ticket to see the band. I love Opeth and I will support them and their record label with my money, no matter what. They, out of all the bands I can imagine, have certainly earned it.
pretty good stuff. the reason i dont like it being leaked is because it ruins the album, but ill promise myself not to listen to any more (intentionally) until the release date =)
people need to get over the fact that Mikael's not growling as much anymore, maybe he ment for the album to be like this, growling's not everything, there growing and progressing and im glad cause its a mind blowing album (as usual) :]
lol. porcelian heart will becouse the video thats out for it is half the length of the album version. thats the radio edit.
just like with the Grand Conjurations song. that was cut to be more easily digested for the radio and music video. of course the song on the album is more epic, which is great.
i really like the style of this album completely different then before.. and if you want brutality just listen to April Ethereal of My arms, Your hearse..
Can someone please tell me how the hell this shit is getting leaked over the youtube and net? How does anyone have the album before June 3rd and cant they get the shit sued out of them for this?
What r u arguing about?? If u don't like Opeth, go away. If u do, great, comment on the song, not other people.
Bomb song, love the build up at 2:31.

I prefer Bluesy.

definately the best song in my opinion.
with martin lopez and peter lindgren, this album would have been...perfect. i miss them so.

beautiful song, truly something you cant really discribe with words, made by the best band out there, OPETH!

i'll admit i was skeptical of this album at first and i admit i would have liked to hear more screams, but overall i think this is one of their heaviest albums, but more importantly, more musically developed, more artistic. truly progressive.

at least mendez is still on bass, he's been in since still life

I saw one of the first shows with Axe, he is good. He gives opeth more punch. That said, Lopez had a smoothness and a grace to his playing that made Opeth really unique.
Both are fantastic but I give the slight edge to Lopez. Hope he recovers and gets his life together.

Opeth is one of the bands which only gets better and better. I love all the Watershed songs I've heard so far. The melancolic riff that braks off the vers on this song is just awsome (1.26), I will off course also order the album;)

I really adore these new songs which I've heard. The new Opeth material from the turn of the millenium to today is something very beautiful.

the ending riff is fucking killer. i can see them ending shows with it, like how they ended the lamentations set with a fair judgement

I'm seeing them in three weeks, I'll tell you if they do!

"Coil" will get airplay

good song, but no way. Burden will get it far before. Coil doesnt go anywhere.
Zeta9966 3 years ago
pretty good stuff. the reason i dont like it being leaked is because it ruins the album, but ill promise myself not to listen to any more (intentionally) until the release date =)

people need to get over the fact that Mikael's not growling as much anymore, maybe he ment for the album to be like this, growling's not everything, there growing and progressing and im glad cause its a mind blowing album (as usual) :]

Watershed is too short!!!!!!!!!"Coil" will get airplay!!!

lol. porcelian heart will becouse the video thats out for it is half the length of the album version. thats the radio edit.
just like with the Grand Conjurations song. that was cut to be more easily digested for the radio and music video. of course the song on the album is more epic, which is great.
fallenwillrise 3 years ago 3
for the record most bands leak the album intentionally ....wether this is the case or not im not sure but im just saying that normally happens
rockon3691 3 years ago
You just pulled that one out of your ass.
Most bands I listen to hate when their albums leak ahead of time.

i really like the style of this album completely different then before.. and if you want brutality just listen to April Ethereal of My arms, Your hearse..

So far so great, but still nothing compared to older albums. But that's still a great thing, because it's hard to match that of older stuff.
Schismzzz 3 years ago
They band usually leak the album as sort of promotional thing so people can hear it for themselves.

this leaking sucks
