  • At that point slavery would have been long gone, it was already dieting out, pluss the south is portraied as nazis, we are NOT!!!!

  • Every1 is missing the point. Its all a what if. People are sayin this couldntve happen but we dont know now do we. The whole point is to show the directors and producers ideas about a HUGE what if

  • It's so funny how so many yanks think the civil war was fought over slavery it's was not eaven 2% of the conflict of the war infact more of the union souldures had slaves than rebels not to mention most rebels where agents slavery if you realy want to know the main reason read the articles of the civil war

  • I guess some people dont know what Mockumentary, its not meant to be taken seriously! its mocking not offending

  • Seems like a very pretentious view of Southerners.

  • How about CIS Star Wars What If. That would be more interesting then this!

  • if this was done about blacks people would melt down. Hell you can't tell the truth about blacks without folks melting down.

White folk need to wake up

  • The main issues with this war does not have anything with the slavery. That is an excuse. If the rights of anyone was the consideration, why the black people still fighting today and MLK was killed 100 yrs later? Railroads and factories in their way...

  • Woah, the prefect example of "did not do the research"...

  • your history teacher gets an F .... The civil war was fought over states rights slavery was not even made an issue buy president lincon until the civil war was almost over. he did this to justify the unconstitutional war

  • Since the South lost, the United States now has equal rights and a humane approach about treatment of races. On the other hand, it has caused a high crime rate in poverty stricken predominately black neighborhoods.

If the South had won, black crime would be at an all time low, but America would be a slave nation (which is a horrible thing).

Basically what I'm saying is its a Catch-22. You can't have your cake and eat it too, America.

  • @Intoxiqated the south was also reconsidering slavery during the civil war not only because of desperation but also because many generals and the president of CSA himself did not own slaves and wanted to abolish slavery eventually. The south even was readying a regiment of free black soliders into the civil war but by that time they were only a few months away from losing the war

  • Only good in this trailer was the song.

  • Actually,

The war WAS fought over slavery and Lincoln was not on the side of the slave but on the union. He actually didn't care about slavery one way or another. He was only interested in preserving the union. He actually told blacks to leave America once they had been set free. Let's get rid of all the misconceptions please.

  • I'm a white southerner, and can perfectly see this movie is semi-satire. Even so, I don't like it - not because I find it offensive (I'm man enough to accept the bad with the good), but because I find it simply inaccurate because it assumes slavery would have existed even to this day. I think slavery itself would have probably faded away no later than WW1 due to increased mechanization of farming. I also think a modern CSA would be like modern South Africa. Everyone free but with racial woes.

  • @filrabat

In addition, recall the TV station identifier showing San Francisco (!?!?!?!?!?!!?) as a Confederate city. Why not Miami (Peninsular Florida was still wilderness at Civil War's end, and the big migration there wouldn't start until the early 20th century.)? Even VERY non-"Southern" Phoenix would be better, given the REAL CSA claimed what is now S. AZ and S. NM (and might get it after their victory)? The producers and scriptwriters simply did NOT do their homework here!

  • @filrabat it's the 21st century. im pretty sure that mainfest destiny and expanding pouplations in the west would have still occured even though the CSA won. And techinically if the south won than new york city, chicago, st.louis, washington d.c and so many other northern cities would be considered confederate cities.

It is YOU who have not done your homework

  • @TheTube9021

    Homework Assignment back at ya!

*The Real Life CSA was not trying to conquer the north, any more than the 1776 colonies were trying to conquer Britain.

*Even half of Europe combined couldn't keep it's overseas colonies. Even the real world USA canNOT conquer the entire world. The CSA was only 1/3 the size of the USA. What chance do you think THEY would have had?

Bottom line: There is NO WAY this movie is even remotely plausible as alternative history. It's SATIRE, that's all!

  • @filrabat Yes and the makers of the film should have realised it, as the conservative historian character clearly stated that slavery was economically untenable.

  • @filrabat I agree. I'm curious to not only know the purpose of this movie but the outcome...as in how it ends.

  • This is disgusting. As a real confederate, I cannot stand this amount of ignorance. Anyone that thinks the war was over slavery needs a history lesson.

  • BS. Johnson knew slavery was not going to last. I Definitely would have ended by 1900 at the latest. It's not about slaves it's about standing up for your rights and home soil.

  • This movie isn't alternate history, its satire in disguise as alternate history. I doubt all of America would have been like this with a csa victory , but this film makes us look at issues about race in our history.

  • @rohan6612 this movie was written by a black man to show how bad it would have been IF they had won.

  • @africandude1 This movie was made an idiot with no knowledge of why the war between the states was fought. Things would be a lot better off for everyone if the CSA had won.

  • @truthseeker370 i saw it and i think they over dramatized a lot of it. The thing is, the confederate constitution protected slavery, and said the right to own slaves could not be taken away by any future amendments or bills etc.

  • this video is made by crazzy southeners who dont understand that the have lost

  • @rohan6612 Garbage. I am a confederate, and I would never support such nonsense. The war was not over slavery. Learn you history.

  • Damn this video is ignorant as fuck, but okay. I guess it is suppose to be funny, but this is what ignorant pompous anti-racists and black people will actually think life would have been like. So they will laugh throughout this film with a smug superiority to the people of the south, but w/e.

  • is this a comedy or SPOOF??

  • @Kuntudog neither its an alternative history documentary

  • If the CSA would have won the civil war eventually slavery would have disappeared anyway because of international trends... if it were up to Lincoln there would have also been slavery anyway, the emancipation proclamation says "Those who do not return to the United States, their slaves shall be free" technically if the CSA would have returned, Lincoln would have allowed slavery to continue in the south...

  • Bottom line is that there are way too many incidental situations that defined the Civil War, and this film makes way too many assumptions, and looks at things very black and white. I don't personally respect a film that has this "know all" mentality. So suddenly you can look into the future based upon the fact that the South would thrive from Slavery? Wow. Grow up.

  • Let's not forget the fact that neither Abraham Lincoln, nor Andrew Jackson cared the least little bit about the "freed" slaves. It was a wartime movement that caused Abraham Lincoln to pronounce the Emancipation Proclamation, and Andrew Jackson could have cared less about the free'd slaves. That's why we have a lot of poverty amongst southern black folks to this day. Jackson hated the south and didn't enforce any of the Reconstruction laws that Lincoln had in mind.

  • @lewistully It was Andrew Johnson that was president after Abraham Lincoln not Andrew Jackson.

  • As a student of Civil War, Southern, and Black history I can't wholly support this movie. It makes a lot of assumptions, and makes a lot absurd allegations. It's fun to poke fun at the South, and it's fun to make a lot of ridiculous assumptions, but the reality is that slavery wouldn't have lasted more than another 30 years, max under the CSA. Am sorry that the USA won? Of course not. I am extremely glad that the USA, instead of the CSA won the war.

  • This, of course, is assuming the slave trade could survive Britain's blockade.

  • @AnimalNitrateInMind Lol! Oh god....that's a good one. You are a troll.

  • This is just an excuse for a couple of racists southerners to try to pass off their blunt racism and ignorance as History and a a way to think about how different america could be.....thank god the North won.

  • @ingu99 Are you talking about this movie? Because the writer and director is a black Kansan.

  • I don't think I've never been offended by anything else more than this. This is just terrible, and erases all the points that some of us, who are proud of our southern heritage, make for our ancestors. This movie could not be more false. The north had slaves just as the south did, and it was only a matter of time before both would abolish slavery. The north did NOT come down south to liberate slaves, it came only for profitable reasons, where a good amount of income taxes decided to seccede.

  • @xXStefan90Xx And your kind of thinking is the reaon why people in the Southern United States will be living in trees two-thousand years from now while the rest of humanity lives on Mars.

  • I saw this video once, I was offended for three reasons: the use of the N word, the portrayal of African Americans, and how it insulted my country and assumed that if she won she would do these things. Truly an offensive movie. I don't even bother arguing about the civil war anymore or trying to convince people it was over slavery, it just isn't worth it.

  • @jasonwill2 Are you talking about the States? The States have done many horrible things, such as Operation Paperclip and protecting Unit 731. No matter how noble or grand a nation and its ideals are, there is always room for corruption and the USA & CSA have both had long histories of intolerence and bigotry. Even after federal troops left the South afte Reconstruction, the South immediately passed Jim Crow laws, which was mostly slavery in all but name. Evil is very easy to perform.

  • slaved would have been abandoned sometime between 1890 and 1930 with the introduction of new machinery and then the cost of feeding and sheltering a slave would be no match for the cost of oiling or fixing a machine

  • Wasn't Fort Sumner a Union fort and wasn't that attacked that started the war ? Just asking.

  • @declannorton Yes, but it was The Battle of Fort Sumter (with a "t") in Charleston, South Carolina. Fort Sumner was in New Mexico.

  • There were 4 million slaves living in the south before the Civil War. More than half the population of South Carolina was made up of slaves. In the Declaration of Succession they mentioned slavery over and over again as the cause. They even called the south the slave holding states and the North the non-slave holding states. Southerners need to quit living in denial.

  • @haymaker710 Your an idiot The south had their entire economy based on farming using cheap labor which was infact slaves the north didnt need slaves because they had a fresh supply of exploited immigrants

  • @Lawlzersinurface Yeah I know that. That was my point.

  • @haymaker710 u r am idiot an know nothing of history

  • @k9arko I'm sure you meant "AN idiot" but it just seems ironic you would call me an that and spell it wrong.

  • yeah its a shame that movies like this are made, it really alienates people with the idea that the civil war was fought over slavery and makes southerners look so evil and even shows them siding with nazis. this is pretty rediculous

  • lincoln dethroned & the south still flies it's battle flag - hardly sounds like a defeated people_ although history is written by the victors...[NY publishers and mass media]...spreading propaganda and revisionist history. They confuse the issue with trigger words like racism - they claim moral superiority. The rhetoric is paper thin....the south had a right to defend their families on it's own soil against raiders from the north. The north justifies the war with hypocrisy and class ridicule.

  • i thought the south just succeeded from the us and wanted to make a new country not take over cause of the debation over slavery

  • Whats the song at the near end?

  • Spike Lee is a racist, this is brainwashing at its finest if you ask me. Who would be so foolish enough to think that our 2nd American Revolution was fought for the right to keep slaves when the majority of south brave did not own slaves? I do pity the ignorant Yankees and I damn the school teachers to hell that teach such lies. Yes slavery was bad but it was doomed to die through peaceful means. Ask yourselves was 600,000 lives worth it(thats only military dead not Civilian added into it)[><]

  • @XGDRabidPanda Thats what Im saying! SPIKE LEE IS A RACIST!

  • @TheWarlord900 And Spoke Lee is historically retarded. He believes that the south would have conquered the north if the south would have won. He is wrong we never wanted nothing more than our independence and freedom. Spike Lee should be tied up and thrown into the river.

  • @XGDRabidPanda So true, not to mention he makes everyone in the South out to be racist, and the fact that in the movie he said General Grant surrenders to Lee.....GRANT DIDN'T TAKE OVER UNTIL AFTER GETTYSBURG! And Lincoln wouldn't have been tried for anything.

  • @TheWarlord900 Exactly the war would have ended once Kentucky was Liberated. Southerners would have more than likely let Missouri go

  • @XGDRa

  • @XGDRabidPanda was 12 million slaves worth it?? SHUT UP i hate people who always try to justify the worst crime in human history!

  • @jimfox123sse Don't fucking believe the lies the war was over taxes. The south was made up of 30% of the population and yet paid 80% of the national tax. Slavery was just used to cover up the fact the North wanted money. The war didn't even end slavery and look at how the 13th Amendment is worded Look at quotes from the Union Generals. The war wasn't fought to Free ANYONE but to collect taxes

  • This is all just silly. Slavery was already well on its way out at the time to the War of Northern Aggression.

  • this could never work the blacks would oviously rise up, and the un would step in and shit

  • A more likely historical "what if" are Harry Turtledove's books where the South wins and two seperate Americas emerge. That said, the movie was pretty entertaining, but it's not the serious historical work some make it out to be.

  • 1:13 How is lincoln black?!?!?!

  • @samthelegoman1 He is trying to avoid being captured by Confederate troops.

  • Very scary

  • what´s the song that starts at 1:04

  • @LPScarface i want to know too

  • The war has been heavily romanticised, as is the period before and after it. Distortions on both sides of Hollywood have made things confusing. The movie itself admits Lincoln didn't consider the war to be about slavery, at first. He eventually admited to it when he created the Emancipation Proclamation. It didn't free any slaves as it pertained to Southern states mostly. Essentially it was a promise that things would be different after the war and made ending slavery a goal of the war.

  • Yes, it was about state rights and economic freedom. But uh... state rights to what exactly? Economic freedom for what exactly?

No matter how you try to spin it, it all comes down to one thing. A major cause for the Civil War was slavery. Not the only cause, but a major one. You can quote racist quotes from all sides, its not gonna matter. What matters is the historical context of why the Southerns succeeded and a major reason was Slavery. You can't just deny that.

  • If the CSA did win the war, they would not have allied with the Nazis. That is just fucking insane. Eventually, the South would have gave citizenship and civil rights to slaves anyway.

  • @See4 i'd have to disagree. I think they would of tried to keep segregation until the present day. Even if they ended segregation, it would only be because they don't want to pay taxes for seperate buty (un)equal facilities for blacks. I do think they wouldn't ally with the nazi's though, i think they would fight against him because they would hate all foreigners, and hitler was Catholic (though he didn't practice) so they wouldn't like that

  • Not only is the movie bad comedy it completely distorts everything...for one thing the Confederacy had no intention of renewing the Slave Trade, indeed to do so would have been a violation of one of the articles of the Confederate Constitution.

  • The lack of historical comprehension in the comments for this video is staggering. Read some contextual history instead of spouting off about how much slaveowners loved their slaves and claiming that Lincoln was motivated by Uncle Tom's Cabin.

Even Shelby Foote would laugh at some of this historical recreation.

  • the funny thing is, is that many northerners were racist, fearing that with slavery they would lose their jobs in the factories, while many southerners worked alongside slaves growing cash crops and as a result formed a kind of bond because of their similarities.

  • wow talk about politically incorrect. Read a history book, the civil war was fought over the south seceding from the union and the conflict of federal and state rights. only 5% of all southerners owned slaves. also Lincoln didn't care for slaves, it was only until the abolitionists became popular through the book "Uncle Tom's Cabin" and as the war was becoming very unpopular, Abe looked to this movement for support for the war.

  • Ironically, attempts like this to TRY and make the South out to be intolerant only promote racial intolerance.Let's all pretend that every Southern was a slave owner while ignoring the fact that slavery existed in the North all through the war until the 13th amendment(ratified AFTER the war)and Lincoln freed the slaves.Really, enough with slavery already. If the South is so racist, why does an overwhelming majority of Blacks live in the South?Hmmm..IFC is a bunch of hypocritical bigots.DEO VINDICE!

  • does anyone know what the name of that song is?

    thanks!

  • God people don't realize this movie is a piss take.

  • @ loveforhistory - you should try to understand not only to swear against CSA.

  • this film is bull shit and lies about the civil war and for the south to

  • IF the south had won Lincoln would not have been charged with anything. Because the South was not interested in conquering the north. The south was invaded. If the south had won there would have been two different countries. Slavery was on its way out in the south. This movie is just a product of sloppy PC research.

  • @oldschoolright apparently you dont know history that well..ever heard of the Battle of Gettysburg...guess not well let me school ya, it was the Rober E Lee's attempt to invade the north

  • @oldschoolright... oldschoolwrong

  • @oldschoolright Of course this isn't on much research. the people are trying to make an interesting movie. If it had been faced on facts then the slaves would have revolted or something. You can't enslave millions of people and expect to get away with it.

  • @oldschoolright in this movie lincoln WASNT tried they jst made him black caz they didnt like him for bringin on the war instead of jst lettin them do wat they wanted to and since blacks were discriminated and enslved at the time it seamed like a preety good idea AND this movie wasnt even serious some guys jst decided to make it for fun as a joke to show what it mitta ben like if the south had won

  • @oldschoolright meh, it's quite a brain teaser though, seeing as the south would have most of the USA's oil they'd become the great and powerful nation, and the USA might break up to join the CSA

  • @oldschoolright i agree 100% With you history shows the civil war was fought over the right of states and the rule of the people. slavery was dying and would have died by the year 1905 WITHOUT the racial tension caused by the implant of welfare to the newly freed slaves.

  • @oldschoolright well said! Finally someone with some common since. And a quick insight on PC: Political Correctness is a plague which is slowly destroying freedom of speech.

  • @oldschoolright Actually you got that wrong, the North only invaded the South because the South was acting belligerent and openly firing on Union soldiers without provocation.

  • @oldschoolright You know, a film based on 'What if' has need for only basic knowledge by nature. Of course everything didn't happen as it did, because it's alternate history.

  • Nice to cage all those troublemakers..

    (I'm not American)

  • 13000 afro-american volunteer were in the CSA army. They were free men not slaves. They fought for the South. The CSA wasn't a rascist state.

  • Harold turtledove is a history buff who writes history fiction. he specializes in taking true history and throwing in a bit of science fiction. he came out with a real good one called " the guns of the south" where racist time travelers went back to the civil war and equipped the south with AK47's so they could win the war. i will not tell you what happened, you should read it your selves. but the outcome was nothing like what you would expect. and yet closer then this movie could ever be.

  • this is just satire, and not to be taken seriously its a joke.the truth in fact is that for economic reasons slavery was going to be phased out anyway.the war only prolonged it.theres a lot about the true history of the civil war that's ether hidden, deliberately not told,or just flat out lied about.slavery was a factor, but not the main one in this conflict. but for reasons of pride the main line fed to people was it was about slavery, when it was really about states rights and economic freedom.

  • "Our new government is founded upon exactly the opposite idea; its foundations are laid, its corner-stone rests upon the great truth, that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery subordination to the superior race is his natural and normal condition."

Alexander Stephens, Vice President of the Confederate States of America

  • I as much as any other man am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race. I say upon this occasion I do not perceive that because the white man is to have the superior position the negro should be denied everything.

Abraham lincoln. president of the united states.

  • That makes sense, as Lincoln was the leader of a revolutionary government that broke apart from the Union in order to celebrate and defend those ideals. Oh wait...

  • I actually sat through this piece of garbage. If the director wants to talk about being culturally biased - it is him doing it to the great people of the south.

  • Look, during the civil war, the south was pro slavery. it's a fact. is the director saying that they are still pro slavery? no. I think you're being a bit chauvinistic, though, to simply assume that the director is a man.

  • The director was Spike Lee.

  • Correction to the drewt33 comment. After this film's initial release, this became a Spike Lee production. It was written and directed by Kansas University professor, Kevin Willmott, a Black man.

  • Does anyone know the name of the song in this?

  • Although slavery was a terrible institution and a huge scar on the face of american history, even if the South won the war, slavery would not have existed for much longer.

I loved this movies humor, taking something to the extreme and making my historical interest peak.

  • You are totally correct. There is no way slavery would have existed through to today

  • Many people say than slavery would had been abolish even with the South wining the war. That seems logic until you read the Confederate Constitution; if you read the Confederate Constitution you would see the clauses protecting the Confederacy from a possible abolition of Slavery by future governments, so even when CSA the movie is a parody, the possibility of slavery in a hypothetical Confederacy in the XX or XXI Century is not such impossibility.

  • Yankees wanna know why we can't forget the civil war and the confederacy......How can we when Movies like this attack our heritage with bull shit like "a black for every home"

less then 7% of south held slaves and do people really belive the csa would side with hitler???? it's all bull shit

(and they use the battle flag for the national flag the national flag looks nothing like that)

  • no dude...look at the real facts. just before the civil war, about 3 forths of white families were slave masters. and, also, its obviously ment to be a parody - so they use symbols that are easily recognizable. not everybody's an expert on being an inbred-hick. that last part was a joke...

  • I kno it's meant to be that but idiots belive that this movie is based on facts thats why it pisses me off

  • no, it just shows people don't know shit about history

  • Man you need to read a hisrory book only 6% own slaves, The south fought for freedom from the north taxing them

  • God bless you brother. It is nice to see someone that actually knows facts.

  • Yes. I know that. The three fifths agreement. Only three fifths of the slaves were counted as property and therefor, taxed. This doesn't help your argument, as this shows that, not only did they want to have slaves, they didn't want to pay for them.

  • Also there real national confederate flag only had enough stars for there current states so they obviously decided since there was so many more states joining they would use the aka rebel flag instead it makes perfect sense if we had 25 states do you think we would be using a flag with 50 stars?

  • Oh MAN, I COMPLETELY agree! It is about time someone agreed with me! Alexreb, you are completely right. Eventually, slavery would have been replaced by manufacturing and industry. it would be onsolete. this movie is BULL SHIT!!!!

  • Amen In fact slavery would have been replaced with the Chain Gang of prisoners that was the original replacment

  • fuck hitler

  • I saw the movie. It was sort of funny, but the future they painted just shows the historical ignorance of the average American.

  • I Hate to admit but yeah it does

  • murphycline are you stupid? Alexreb your definitly stupid, that is why they call it a SATIRE you moron. That's like saying scary movie is supposed to be a real horror movie.

  • Of course it's a satire, I said it was kinda funny. But the fact remains that the alternative universe they painted is accepted is based upon historical ignorance.

  • Is a mockcumentary. is not supposed to be historical. I watcht it and I liked its subversive humor. There re are better alternative history films out there Fatherland and Amerika are far better in historical detail. Just have a laugh at the idiotic stereotypes of the film. In real history I find it unlikely that the Confederacy could have survive in its original form into the 20th. century anyhow.

  • Um, you guys. This is something they call a "mocumentary". It means fake. Notice the tagline? "What if the South had won?" as in "WHAT IF?"

  • its called a satire. small political views ae blown so far out of proportion that there is no way they would ever be accurate. everybody who was outraged after they saw that were just ignorant.

  • This is nothing but a poorly research piece of KKK propaganda so they drool over it all day long. If you want a real look at a victorious south, read How Few Remain and the rest of the series by Harry Turtledove.

  • HAHAHAH thats the worst piece of film I've EVER seen! Its so incredibly inaccurate! I just wasted 2min and 7sec of my life!

  • What is unnaccurate about it? Are you stupid? Please answer both of those questions... Ounce you find a way to grow more brain cells come back and explain to me how a faux alternate histroy SATIRE can be unnacurate??? your a fucking moron. That's like saying Spongebob isn't real well no shit.

  • thsi moive sucked the dumbass who made didn't know shit

1.Wrong flag that was the batlle flag the real flag looked nothing like that

2.There is no way slavery would still be goin on here

3.Only 10% of the South had slaves to begin with

4.There is NO FUCKIN WAY THE CSA WOULD ALLIE THEM SELFS WITH HITLER!!!

Fuck the idiot who made this pile of crap he calls a movie

  • It was Spike Lee.

  • Dont care if it was Steven Spielburg. it is still a piece of unresearched junk

  • No. This film is a cheap shot against the South. In fact almost 90% of Southern soldiers did not own slaves. There were many more things going on suchs as state's rights, regional loyalty, and a fear of Northern agression. Slavery was abolished in the South when the war ended and the Emancipation Proclimation enforced. Slavery was not officially outlawed in the north until 1866. This is a poorly researched and made film.

  • Sorry im British so i don't know much about the C.S.A but was it only Slavery they beleved in? or was there other parts to it?

  • No, the Civil War was about alot of things, and slavery only became an issue later on. There were Union states with slavery also.

  • Yeah, this is a just a joke "documentary". It's not a serious alternate history documentary at all.

  • oh i knew that lol it jsut was confusing at first but ive researched up! thanks lads!

  • states rights not slavery
