There are 9 peices of the dragonrider staff they have been put into to chests and scattered around the spiral, they have been gaurded by bosses but we have to retreive them to comtrol a dragon to fly to dragon's roost to kill malistare.

the purpose of those chests is when you get to ds academy you talk to ashley to assemble a dragon rider staff.There are 9 pieces so there are 9 chests in the spiral.(not gh or cl)

Eh, this video is epic fail -_- This was nightshade's tower, right? Locations of these chests: Colossus Boulevard, Haunted Cave, Biti Nirini, some other location in krokotopia, one in a tower in newgate prison, another one in marleybone, 2 in mooshu I forgot locations, and the dean in the Labyrinth in DS. Their porpuse of being in those locations is to keep the dragonrider staff safe inside them. When you collect these in a quest, you will be able to ride a drake to malistaire.

the obsidian chests are in some towers because later on there will be a quest from ashley the fire tree to find ALL the obsidian chests in all wizard101 to get the dragon rider staff peices together and to finally ride on a drake and reach malistaire ;) without it we would never reach him!

i am level 50 ice wizard you need to get the staff pices out of the chests win you get the quest win you finish that quest you can ride the drake wich is a dragon then your in the place were malisatres doungeon is and then you fight 2 bosses then you kepp fighting minions till you get to malisatre.

yeah, i have a lvl 50 death wizard, those chests really arent very mysterious, they contain peices of the dragon rider staff, and that is for one of the last dragonspyre quests before you battle malistaire.

the obsidian chests i believe are for the drake dragon ride. I think there are pieces in there to make a staff. I dont know ask a grandmaster in the game.

that obsidian chest happens to be for 1 of 9 pieces you need to collect the dragon rider staff which is the first quest when you enter the dragonspyre academy, you will need the dragon rider staff to vs malistare. its called the dragon rider staff because without it you could not ride the dragon which takes you to the great spyre. idk why people say it takes you to malistare's layer, it takes you too the great spyre where malsitare is located throughout a series of other bosses (the gurtoks)

dude, i'm level 50 death, there are many of those chests throughout the game and their purpose is for a quest that requires the ancient dragon rider staff, each piece of the staff is in the separate chests in the game

There are 9 obsidian chests scattered all over the 5 worlds (not grizzleheim). These chests were put there to seal the ancient dragon rider staff. You will get s quest to collect all 9 of them when your about to defeat malistare. You can only open them if you have the quest to do so. Once you get all 9, then you will get a staff and the ability to ride a dragon to malistare.

uhh well to open them you need to get to thw world called dragonspyre. and there is a place in dragonspyre called the "dragonspyre acadamy" once you get in there you get a quest to get a dragon rider staff. there are 9 of those chests spread out throughout the game and each one holds part of the dragonrider staff. so until then you dont really need to worry about the chests

yea you do a quest where you find each obsidian chest in each world it easy cause the map shows you where they are. some bosses where the chests are you can just walk around them
