By the way, you video watchers, if you don't know what Erlkonig is about, you need to find a translation of the poem, which will make more sense out of this video.
@LShackley Der Erlkönig (often called just Erlkönig) is a poem by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. It depicts the death of a child assailed by a supernatural being, the Erlking or "Erlkönig" (suggesting the literal translation "alder king", but see below). It was originally composed by Goethe as part of a 1782 ballad opera entitled Die Fischerin.
Terrible arrangement. Absolutely superfluous, the Liszt version already did what you have to do with 4 hands with only 2. You really didn't add anything to the piece besides the little ornament in the middle around 2:20.
Video production-wise is great. Interesting use of special effects.
@jefftam1234 I actually believe that they made it a four hand duet so they could play it together. If you had watched any of their other videos, you could have realized the both are capable of playing anything they fancy. The song is very stunning, and the four hands brings it to life.
Love it! - always great to find gems like this that show it's not music from the Ark, but current as ever. Please make more and come to London (UK) and play ;-)
I'll be honest, I usually dislike your arrangements- as with many of Liszt's transcriptions for example, I find them full of virtuosity and bravura, and void of musical depth. This one, on the other hand, I am very impressed with, but I think it has more to do with your film director and how the video was shot than it has to do with your actual arrangement. Anyone who knows the actual story will understand what is going on.
FANTASTIC! I know of at least a dozen people who will love this video. You fuddy duddies really need to get a life. A sense of humor and IMAGINATION is the first indication of intelligence. All you naysayers are completely void of such intelligence. Well done Anderson & Roe!
@absintheangel777 Word, Angel!!! And humor includes understanding dark humor. Kudos to Anderson & Roe and filmmaker Matthew Brown for a feast for the ears AND the eyes.
Weeelllll...superb arranging and performance AS ALWAYS. But sadly, this is one video I cannot show my young piano students. I'm really bummed about that, because when I saw that you had arranged Der Erlkonig, I was quite excited. I thought it would be a sure winner in motivating young people. But not this way. :-( Very creative, though.
Hynotic, powerful, perfect playing....magnificent video! Although I sing the 'Erl-Konig', I have to say that I now much prefer this four-hand version. It communicates the fear and the madness, the myth and the delirium... Congratulations!
@stosswalkinator - as much as Berezovsky while playing the Liszt Transcendental Etudes :P
I think I've shown everyone I've seen today this video and they all say the same thing - that they think both the brilliant music and video are awesome, and that they are now afraid of the piano.
I was literally JUST watching videos of Der Erlkönig. Not only that, but I did a project on Schubert for my German class! You can imagine my surprise when I saw this.
