BTW it would help simplify things on the shuttle-c CLV.

It would remove the issue of the escape tower being in the shock path of the ET and make the stack's aerodynamics closer to the shuttle.

This test used a rocket mounted below the crew module, while the actula MLAS design uses four separate solid rockets motors mounted above the crew module. While this test was successful in achieving its goals, it did not prove that MLAS is better than the current LAS design.

They were actually worried about the guidance rings that split off just after the motor burn out. Those would not be on the final version of this if its ever made for the orion...
