First Al-Qaeda attacked the US (9/11-01). This lead to the War in Afghanistan where all NATO countries were compelled to help the US (the One for All, All for One idea of NATO). Now Al-Qaeda is out of Afghanistan but Afghanistan is still unstable meaning if we go out they will just come back. This has let to the present ISAF mission where we are helping stabilizing Afghanistan.

That doesn't exactly match up with the accounts I've heard from danish soldiers coming back from Helmand province (which by the way is one of the most dangerous provinces in Afghanistan).
@MrFalconfly The "accounts you are hearing from danish soldiers coming back from helmand" dont mean much. Soldiers on the ground cant see the whole country and they are told what to believe and debriefed when they go home to give the "official " version of what its like. In Helmand when the soldiers move in, in force, the taliban move out and when the soldiers move out again the taliban move back in. There are not enough soldiers in Afghanistan to hold Helmand let alone Afghanistan.

There is no central point in Afghanistan it is multipolar in its nature and the afghans have loyalty to their particular clan chief. Nobody has ever taken Afghanistan ever.The irregular forces appear in force and dissappear into the mountains when attacked by a larger force. They know the terrain and they have 100s of years practice at this warfare
That is exactly the reason we are training the Afghan police and defense forces. So they can use their 100s of years of knowledge of the terrain to combat taliban.
And yes the Afghans have loyalty towards their particular clan-chief. But even the clans want the taliban out simply because they don't distinguish between combatants and civilians.

One soldier for 1 square mile wouldnt be nearly enough so what is one for 350 going to do? @24402989123456 You will fight because you are ordered to. I would not fight in Afghanistan because the afghans have never done anything to me, same goes for Iraq. I would fight to defend my homeland and yes I am sure I would be scared. I am a nurse though, I have been under huge pressure and I have saved at least 10 peoples lives in my career. I never cared what nationality they were. Forget all that jingoist gung ho stuff-its served up to you so you will do anything you are ordered to do

@waynewayne6969 Yes we need you to defend our country but you are not doing that in Afghanistan. You and your comrades have been misused by being sent to Afghanistan. I am sure you and they went there with the best intentions but the deaths in the civilian population are not justified. The british soldiers who have been killed should never have been sent there. The traumas that follow will result in many suicides as a result of this action. Check out winter soldiers. You will cry like a man.

The war on terror is CREATING terrorists not preventing it. It is encouraging mor spending on arms and hatred for the west. If you have repaired schools then that is good but the bombings, searches and humiliation of families is something which turns the population against you. They will seek revenge.

Dont forget you were armed and they have seen or heard about the ability to devastate with air strikes.The moslems also are bound by their religion to welcome those in their villages. I just cant imagine that they are happy about foreign non muslim troops on their soil. There are some big differences in the middle eastern countries-impossible to detail here but the afghans are notoriously tenacious-they never give up.

Let's just watch what actually let to ISAF.
First Al-Qaeda attacked the US (9/11-01). This lead to the War in Afghanistan where all NATO countries were compelled to help the US (the One for All, All for One idea of NATO). Now Al-Qaeda is out of Afghanistan but Afghanistan is still unstable meaning if we go out they will just come back. This has let to the present ISAF mission where we are helping stabilizing Afghanistan.
So far no oil, no global elite, no conspiracy.

In my last post I made it clear why they are there.NATO has less than 20% of the country under control, otherwise the Afghan taliban and irregular forces controlled by various warlords are in control of the country. Al quaida gains more supporters every day that the foreign NATO troops are on Islamic soil. Please dont believe the bullshit that they tell you on TV. Wise up. Its about money and power.

That doesn't exactly match up with the accounts I've heard from danish soldiers coming back from Helmand province (which by the way is one of the most dangerous provinces in Afghanistan).

@MrFalconfly The "accounts you are hearing from danish soldiers coming back from helmand" dont mean much. Soldiers on the ground cant see the whole country and they are told what to believe and debriefed when they go home to give the "official " version of what its like. In Helmand when the soldiers move in, in force, the taliban move out and when the soldiers move out again the taliban move back in. There are not enough soldiers in Afghanistan to hold Helmand let alone Afghanistan.

@MrFalconfly Read an account of the Vietnam war and then read about the irregular Afghan forces since the British invasions in the late 19th century. There is no central point in Afghanistan it is multipolar in its nature and the afghans have loyalty to their particular clan chief. Nobody has ever taken Afghanistan ever.The irregular forces appear in force and dissappear into the mountains when attacked by a larger force. They know the terrain and they have 100s of years practice at this warfare

That is exactly the reason we are training the Afghan police and defense forces. So they can use their 100s of years of knowledge of the terrain to combat taliban.
And yes the Afghans have loyalty towards their particular clan-chief. But even the clans want the taliban out simply because they don't distinguish between combatants and civilians.

@MrFalconfly Helmand province is 24000 square miles in size. The Danes have 700 soldiers there. So how much of it can they hold? How much can 20,000 soldiers hold? One soldier for 1 square mile wouldnt be nearly enough so what is one for 350 going to do? Your danish soldier friends were teling you lies.By the way the afghan army and police dont have 100s of years experience fighting the taliban, collaboraters and the puppet regimes will collapse when the troops from the west leave.

@humanityfirstnow Try reading some history books - It took the Greek under Alexander the Great 3 years to take Afghanistan about 330 BC, Then the Parthians took it away from the Greeks around 150 BC etc. - So Afghanistan has been taken many times.

Parthians "took it away", as if a country like that can be governed in entirety by an invader. The tribal leaders in their local areas have always decided what happens there and no centralised leader. You have to see the reality outside of your eurocentric box. Other rules apply there.

If by "taking over" you mean invading, killing of the local population and substituting your own hardly noone has ever done that at a national scale.
Now if we decided to do that to Afghanistan today - we do have the means to create a desert and call it peace.

What is brave about going out? They are just kids or young people who have been schooled to do what they are doing. Sure the instances when they risk their own life (and are aware of it) they can act bravely.
That however doesn't change anything with the fact that Denmark has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do in Afghanistan watching a US oil pipeline. We don't even get a commission - we just pay the American military industry!
