  • 1:36 mind = blown. as a kid.. would i be able to do this?

  • This was a hot game in the UK and i scored over 7 million with over 5 million being a regular thing, you have to eat, breath, sleep this game to understand how amazingly addictive it was...sheer and utter mayhem kicking off and i miss it

  • On Pacman or Donkey Kong, you can get 188,000 points under a light doze. On Robotron 188,000 points is something to tell your grandkids about. This game made you work for it.

  • 1:36 Just blew my fuckin mind.

  • it hurts my head!

  • this game sounds like a breakcore song

  • @mickykurniawan NO THUMB-WHORING!

  • @HardWiredGaming SORRY!

  • Always take advantage of that bug during the 5th wave.

    Keep Mikey alive!

  • This game is beast.

  • Easily in my top 5 classic arcade games list! Williams games always had the best sounds! Nice thick sounds! Awesome!

  • Just purchased my robotron 2084 arcade :) so fun

  • I haven't seen the previous 2083 installments though. :(

  • nvm, i've managed to use the W,S,A,D keys for movement and the arrow keys for shooting. game is pretty psychodelic if u know what i mean.

  • two joysticks? that must explain why i'm having problems with the controls in this game (using a keyboard -_-). how would u set up the controls for the game if your using a keyboard to play it?

  • @cubansupreme ya game ment to be played with 2 joysticks

  • I'm actaully doing a game inspired by R2084.

Those Enforcers are very annoying to me. That's why I try to take them and the quarks out first.

  • @Raiden7284677 :-) Eaxctly that's what I do too! Enforcers are annoying mofos :)

  • pew pew pew pew pew

  • Robotron 2084 was released on cartridge for the C=64 in 1983; and it is a darn fine conversion of this game as well.

  • Holy 4th level! I used to have this on Atari 7800, but I don't recall it being this crazy.

  • This game looks mental

  • This game is an adrenaline rush, love it

  • omg this gime is a bunch of seizures... awesome!!!

  • i just purchased a arcade version of this its sick i cant stop rolled a 300k score yesterday

  • My favorite video game ever!

  • LIke a freaking boss!

  • oh dear raptor jesus my ears are bleeding pixels of 8bit data.

fuck world cybergames, this is gaming...

  • The only reason I got geometry wars was because they didn't have this game for the 360 and it was kinda like this. Not quite as good though. ROBOTRON > all of the other games with even remotely similar mechanics.

  • Pitiful score, considering he was playing with free life every 20,000 points.

  • Comment removed

  • i think these were the coolest sounding games, this game, bubbles, sinistar and joust etc.

  • @Bunomous Joust was so awesome. I found these games on an 80's Arcade site but they took them away at some point! :( Glad I got good use out of them! Joust, Robotron, Defender .. all CLASSICS!

  • ooooooo

  • i need to steel my nephews sega dreamcast so i can play this game again. Its a very fast paced addicting game:-)

  • best videogame ever.

you should see what it looks like when someone who knows what they're doing is behind the controllers. after a couple hours you let half a dozen lives go just to take a break, and you're soaked with sweat. gotta be arcade though, MAME doesn't cut it, you need two solid joysticks for proper gameplay.

  • From some of the comments posted, it looks the people that "don't get it" haven't played the arcade console with the two joysticks; one for moving, one for shooting. You really need to put your conscious brain into your back pocket at the higher levels and work on pure instinct. A true classic shooter.

  • is it just me, or does that look ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE?!?!?!

  • damn, this looks seriously hard!!!

  • @shaguar1

All the cabinet games of the day were seriously hard. Unlike the console in the home scenario, they didn't want you stood there playing for half an hour...they were designed to fleece you and everyone else in the establishment of your coinage. This led to a culture of one-upmanship on the high score boards...getting your name at the top was a feeling of pride and accomplishment. But boy were they frustrating. These days I prefer to relax with a game...so it's consoles for me. :)

  • @GhibliFan1 Dude, like me you probably spent most of your dinner money trying to get there....This game is simply awesome,"as close to hand and mind coordination nirvana you can get" as someone once said. Peace .

  • Furthermore, if you've played "Geometry Wars" on your XBox 360, then know that Robotron is a direct spiritual ancestor to that excellent game.

Let me just leave you with a quote from Eugene Jarvis, the guy who made this game (as well as Defender):

"The only legitimate use of a computer is to play games."

  • To those who don't understand the appeal of this arcade game, the history on the PS1 compilation sums it up:

"If it were possible to reach Zen nirvana through hand-eye coordination, then Robotron would be the ultimate tool of enlightenment. A good Robotron player on a roll is a thing of beauty. It's just two joysticks against the world. No scrolling, no magic enemy generator off-screen. All the enemies in the level are present and attacking from the word GO!."

  • @MiketheCabbie "You must succumb to a hyper-kinetic state of meditation if you want to beat Robotron."

You see, if you try to make sense of what's going on in the game, if you stop to think about it for even a fraction of a second, you're dead, plain and simple. Play Robotron long enough, become sufficiently skilled at it, and you will LITERALLY feel your mind functioning in a way you may not be used to.

There's no strategy to learn, no pattern to memorize. It's all instinct, nothing else.

  • @MiketheCabbie Robotron is as pure an old-school gaming experience as you're gonna get. And if you've ever seen an interview with Eugene Jarvis--one of the co-creators of Robotron--you'd understand how a game like Robotron could get made, Seriously, I consider him to be the closest thing to a "mad scientist" of videogames. He also created Smash TV and Total Carnage, so you know the kind of games he likes to make.

  • 2084 is only 73 years from now !! We may live long enough to be die in an epic neon colored robot onslaught.

  • What the hell is going on?

This is giving me a headache!

  • all you do shoot stuff over and over again how is this a masterpiece?

  • You know what I love (and hate) about this game? How it will chew you up and spit you out, and it will laugh in your face while doing so. Seriously, this game will fuck you so hard your great, great, great, great, great grandfather's bones will feel it.

And you will come back for more.

  • Good play. This game is as fun to watch as it is to play.

  • They Should Be Remaid In LBP2!!!

  • The shots sounds like gabber beats

  • Highest score (X BOX Version): 424,750.

  • I found this game to be a great constipation aid... because by the time the game hit the "Deathblender" difficulty, it becomes increasingly harder to not shit yourself.

  • This game was setup to award lives every 20,000 and still couldn't manage to get 200k

  • JESUS CHRIST, how does anyone keep track of what the hell is going on in this game?

  • @OscarApollo You don't. Like a Jedi Knight in combat, you "concentrate on the moment. Feel, don't think." "Let go of your conscious mind, and act on instinct."

  • I got pretty good at this game, but it was so frenetic, hard to discern patterns. Came towards the end of my non-stoned arcade gaming days - maybe that's why. :D

  • @warpafx That's because there were no patterns to discern.

  • Weak

  • i dont remember wave 9 having so many red guys?

  • >_< This is why I hate the REALLY old arcade games. You can't understand what the heck your doing.

  • @Zawicki1

Nothing to Understand... kill or be killed was the theme of the day..... with a few exceptions (frogger)

  • @Uglimusashi But I'm saying you can't see what the heck you are doing.

  • *Seizure*

  • @baggedyman I was thinking the same thing XD

  • Game looks easy and boring in the same time xD

  • Robotron was such an awesome game.

  • damn, you did good, better than i used to when i was like 10 lol good show ^_^

  • I have Mame32 but this game won't load for me, saying there are missing files. I'm pretty sure I got the main rom zip file (solid blue label). HardWired, how did you get it to work?

  • this game has the most kickass sound effects

  • @n2out2 And I care about your dickwaving WHY, again?

  • @n2out2 jesus man...you must have had way too much time on your hands

  • @n2out2 Funny, this game came out in 1982, douchebag

  • This game is confusing, but still fun. The level transitions happen right after you kill the last enemy and it happens so quickly you think that nothing happens. At least in robotron 64 a cutscene plays. And how did that guy your playing as get there anyway? Is this the real world? Is he using a virtual reality machine that he conveniently has in this living room? WTF.

  • @Blahguy300

A gigantic screen-filling zooming rectangle effect is "nothing happens" to you? Might want to get your vision checked.

  • @ZylonBane

    That was sarcasm

  • @Blahguy300 The story of the game:

"Inspired by his never-ending quest for progress, in 2084 man perfects the ROBOTRONS, a robot species so advanced that man is inferior to his own creation. Guided by their infallible logic, the Robotrons conclude: The human race is inefficient, and therefore must be destroyed.

"You are the last hope of mankind. Due to a genetic engineering error, you posess superhuman powers. Your mission is to stop the Robotrons, and save the last human family."

  • This game was a quarter disposal. It was freaking HARD!

  • Robotron 2084 and Defender. masterpieces in video war gaming.

  • This was exciting! I was rooting for you all the way. Not an easy game to play, but fun as hell. I first saw it in the arcade at the 1982 World's Fair in Knoxville, TX

  • Such a fun game in the 80's.

  • This game drove me absolutely nuts! Always loved the sound effects!

  • Arcade emulator..I'll be damned 0.o

  • My all-time favorite. How many hours lost?! lol

  • The money I earned from my paper route went all towards this game when I was 11.

  • A quarter-eater, but I was always more than happy to feed it. One of the greatest. Incredible sound effects.

  • I love the sound FX, but you sure die alot. You even trying to stay alive in this vid?

  • great game and super sound!

  • at 2:36 there was just no way =P
