Simply place the microphone where you want it and speak with the level of voice you will be recording and adjust the transmitter to provide the same level as variance of level you see on the transmitter's LCD, but on the receiver's LCD. Once that's done, you can match the output of the receiver to the camera (as this video demonstrates - but please note my written comments about where noise can be heard using good cans as you need to avoid this

So what settings did you use for the transmitter? -36 db?

The Sennheiser ME-4 mic is a cardioid mic ie uni-directional.
The ME-2 is the omni-directional one. I have both!
