SRV was one of the best guitar players ever if not the best. Jimi was an original ground breaking creative genius. It's a tribute to Jimi that Stevie plays his music.
In 1984 SRV recorded this song as Voodoo ChilE (Slight Return). On Hendrix's album the title of the same song was given as "Child" due to a mistake. There's a lot said and written about that
@17musicluv He doesn't get into the music. He is the music. It flows through him and out of his hands like water through a stream. A pure channel connected to an uninterupted flow of blues. RIP Stevie,We miss you
@cunnidvd Done done it about a million times. Not saying Hendrix is not good 'cause he is. Just saying SRV is one who causes Hendrix to look like an amateur. Another look out of thousands won't change that fact.

Hendrix...SRV...Hendrix...SRV...they were both wicked. There are time when you think that Hendrix was better but then you see a performance like this from SRV....but then when you say SRV is better you hear a performance like "Hear My Train A Comin'" from Hendrix's 1970 Berkeley College show. Lets face it. The both of them were supernatural. It was almost absurd how talented they were. They were on a level that went beyond comparison. In other words when you're THIS good why bother measuring.
@cmc2234 He used super fat strings that produce greater tone (his high E string was 12 gauge), and those old strats like the one he played were one of a kind. I've played a '64 strat strung with medium gauge strings, and it's the closest I've ever sounded to SRV. Peace out, bro.
My dad told me that when he first got the news of SRV's death, he thought it wasn't true because the news hadn't really been broken by any news outlets on the East Coast. He even called in to a local radio station that next morning and asked "did you hear anything about Stevie Ray Vaughan dying?" They said no. I thought that was pretty interesting.
I would have paid any amount of money to see him live...SRV influenced me to shift from rock to blues guitar playing
Right. That's what I thought. You never experienced a live SRV show, yet you're an authority on how he sounded. Funny, when I met Rene Martinez 10 years ago we had a pretty in depth conversation about SRV's rig & tone on the tour w/ Jeff Beck. He mentioned how SRV relied on the Tycobrahe because the sound was great for large the indoor stadiums. He also said how SRV always longed for an original Roger Mayer Octavio because the sound Hendrix got w/ one was superior to the Tycobrahe.
Rene went on to mention that while SRV never consciously copped Hendrix licks, he was very open about his quest for sculpting sound on the same level that Hendrix did. He use of the Tycobrahe, as well as the original Arbiter-Dallas Fuzz Face was a clear nod to reproducing Hendrix's sound. So yes, keep babbling as if you have even the most remote idea of what you're writing about. Like I asked before, where other than on youtube can such insipid people babble so self-righteously??
Awwww, what's the matter? Have I frightened you off THAT easily? Perhaps you can do a google search for Rene Martinez. That way you can at least pretend that you have a pragmatic response. Oh but wait, you DON'T have a pragmatic response. Funny how often that seems to be the common denominator of so many youtubers who build a career on perpetuating the silliness that they plagiarize from other unknowing fools.
I've never seen this clip, but I did get to see him 6 times while he was alive. He played this song like a motherphuqer, when he was in a groove there was never anyone better and there never will be. There's some great players out there; Steve Morse, Steve Vai, John Petrucci, et al, but there will never be another SRV.
@cmc2234 Amen! There's another interview on here during the Fire Meets The Fury Tour with Jeff Beck and Loder was interviewing Stevie laughing every five seconds. He's a huge hypocrite! He dogged Stevie REALLY badly when Texas Flood came out. And no surprise, he kissing Stevie's butt every chance he gets haha

Guitar players, except for kids and amateurs, hate comparison; they try to leave their own mark on what they are doing; saying that someone "came close to Hendrix" is not a compliment but rather the opposite
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@5507156693 Cool. I love a good argument when it comes to guitar playing. I should call you "serial number" since your screen name is a bunch of numbers. LOL I would say in this video doing Voodoo Chile Steve comes 1/4 close to Hendrix. 5507156693.......Let's face, beside Halen, Hendrix is the most influencial guitar player ever. We all "can't help" but compare to the MASTER OF MASTERS. Sure there are other styles, but the concept of blues is LESS is MORE. Nobody comes close.
I often tend to forget the difference between a Hendrix fan and a music fan. OK, you are a Hendrix fan. But even as such you should have thought twice before tossing the "1/4 close to Hendrix" thing. Its incredibly stupid unless you have invented a "coming-close-to Hendrix" measuring device; in case you have you deserve a Nobel Prize for sure. I like SRV's version more probably because I seldom fall pray to long-lived myths and legends. Thank God for that
True that. I have nothing against Hendrix yet I have a lot against all Hendrix fascist who buzz like horseflies on EVERY SRV video preaching like medieval religious fanatics and probably trying to reassure themselves that "Jimi is the best ever". Hendrix has my due respect though as a player he's not among my favorites. Should I go fussing about it all over YT?! Sadly, those brainwashed freaks are pissing me more and more off the guy who has no guilt at all
@5507156693 I'm in total agreement about Hendrix. I have always given him his due props. It's interesting how many Hendrixian nut cases come on SRV videos to trash him. You're right, they are desperate to convince themselves more than others that their favorite is better than your favorite.
I was just in a "discussion" with a zealous SRV hater, on video "Comparing Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimi Hendrix Part 2".
Fact is with these clowns, it always comes down to a huge case of DENIAL.!
Those "zealous SRV haters" are plainly and simply jealous; Stevie's the one that bugs them the most. They have no arguments against him and can only come up with unfounded denial. They spend plenty of the time on hating SRV and then bitch about the miserable number of Hendrix's vids views, which always cracks me up. My conclusion sounds ugly but sums up my observations: while probably not all Hendrix fans are morons, EVERY moron seems to be a Hendrix fan
@5507156693 ..the fact that hendrix is even compared to srv is a joke...srv is and was the greatest ever...hendrix in my view..isnt even in the discussion...
It's hard not to agree while listening to this stunning performance...Stevie made me like this song anyway; and his version of Little Wing is a true masterpiece. All in all I think one single "best" does not exist but Hendrix fans are so brainwashed and intolerant (maybe simply jealous) that your statement just warms my heart
watch him at 3:20, it's like he's saying "yea that's right, I'm doing this every day" just so awesome, I feel this is the best version I have watched so far.
I honestly dont think I will ever see a preformance like this again in my lifetime. When you witness a preformance like this there are no words to do it justice...so I have to remain silent....total peace..
the move it puts on that lick at 3:25 just shows how much he felt the music and he was a channel where he wasnt playing music he was truly releasing it from i different place.
MTV should have shown some respect and chosen someone else to announce SRV's death instead of this guy who was pretty negative about Stevie while writing for RS Magazine; in this vid Loder will always look hypocritical to me..
@5507156693 Kurt Loder is an arrogant, provincial asshole. He is a GLARING example of how critics are nothing more than people who couldn't hack it at something they always wanted to do...But couldn't because they lacked talent. THOSE WHO CANNOT DO WILL CRITICIZE THOSE WHO CAN.
@guitarthroat It's hilarious to read what critics with authority wrote about the works of their contemporaries Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, Van Gogh, the impressionists etc. Those damn clowns would die of shame instantly if miraculously brought back to life. Why don’t modern critics learn a lesson from those before them is beyond me
@turnbacktime He made statements that he was a "Hendrix clone" and that he wondered if he ever listened to Jimi's original version of "Voodoo Chile". From what I read in Stevie's autobiography Soul to Soul, Stevie said himself that Kurt was pretty much just pompous and rude to him like he was unworthy to even cover Hendrix material. Kurt is a fucking asshole to lots of musicians. Probably out of jealousy. THOSE WHO CANNOT DO, WILL CRITICISE THOSE WHO CAN!!!
You took the trouble to type all this PM out? LOL. People often hate to admit to even the smallest mistake but your reaction borders on the pathological. I thought good of you after you first posted me regarding Loder. But as they say, it's never too late to get disillusioned
@guitarthroat If I remember right, he used to right or review, or whatever for Rolling Stone Magazine. And he didn't have a very good review for Stevie's "Texas Flood" album. Really funny/hypocritical that he interviewed Stevie right before his tour in 1989 with Jeff Beck and he's doing this piece about him after he died!
god dammit tony9L9L how do u comment on so many srv videos....u fucking srv nazi......i wish we could form a possy of srv lovers and rip ur fucking throat out....then mabye u would be able to shut the fuck up....and bask in ur hatred
I remember a buddy of mine walking into the my house a few weeks ago while I had this video on and he was floored by what he was hearing and seeing. He's a guitar player and he totally went to work on trying to sound more like Stevie. He called me up a few days ago and told me that he was dumbfounded why he sounded like $hit in comparison to this video.
I told him not to worry because guys like Santana are doing the exact same thing, and their failing as well!
That kind of came off wrong. I wasn't knocking Santana at all. I should have clarified that but I don't have nearly enough characters to explain myself.
Santana is my 3rd favorite guitar player so trust me, I wasn't knocking him
No because a joke is a story with a humorous ending and Stevie died screaming in a ball of flames which is not a happy ending unless you are a sick S.O.B!

No mate, you are either retarded or you're not retarded. Unless you converse with people who you think are 'sort of retarded' in which case you are just a complete tit.
Contain your inability to diagnose mental defects for using on your family and friends in future.
Nothing really other than the fact that he was a limp-dicked pillow biter, he ass raped the Blues when it was on its last legs and made a carreer out of pretending to be somebody talented (Jimi Hendrix).
I'm also not keen on his singing voice which sounded like a man straining on the toilet with a difficult turd.
This version is Voodoo Child, but Stevie pronounced it Chile, so yeah that's why it's printed like that on the back of his CD Couldn't Stand The Weather and it's why most of his performances that are are here say Chile and not Child
I don't think I've ever seen anyone put that much feeling and soul into a song. He plays the guitar effortlessly..as though he is just channeling the energy through his hands.
He's chewing gum, not "grinding his teeth". Why don't you try to tame your pretty wild imagination? (He chewed gum because he was giving smoking up, just like he gave up drinking and coke)

TheGreatLouMass 1 year ago
I often tend to forget the difference between a Hendrix fan and a music fan. OK, you are a Hendrix fan. But even as such you should have thought twice before tossing the "1/4 close to Hendrix" thing. Its incredibly stupid unless you have invented a "coming-close-to Hendrix" measuring device; in case you have you deserve a Nobel Prize for sure. I like SRV's version more probably because I seldom fall pray to long-lived myths and legends. Thank God for that

Well said.

I think that pretty much sums up the reason for all the Hendrix worshiping zombies out there.
look at the comment just made by bonds256. Man these people are STUPID!
cmc2234 1 year ago 31
Sadly, those brainwashed freaks are pissing me more and more off the guy who has no guilt at all
5507156693 1 year ago 36
I'm actually finding it quite funny now! All these Hendrix worshipers are just plain hilarious haha
csi2448 1 year ago 12
I truly admire your patience with those "hilarious" nut cases. I'm a tolerant guy but one thing that maddens me is peoples' unashamed stupidity
5507156693 1 year ago 14
It's all good man. I have to keep a cool head, or I'd be kicked off of here!
csi2448 1 year ago 3
@5507156693 I'm in total agreement about Hendrix. I have always given him his due props. It's interesting how many Hendrixian nut cases come on SRV videos to trash him. You're right, they are desperate to convince themselves more than others that their favorite is better than your favorite.
I was just in a "discussion" with a zealous SRV hater, on video "Comparing Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimi Hendrix Part 2".
Fact is with these clowns, it always comes down to a huge case of DENIAL.!
cmc2234 1 year ago 38
Those "zealous SRV haters" are plainly and simply jealous; Stevie's the one that bugs them the most. They have no arguments against him and can only come up with unfounded denial. They spend plenty of the time on hating SRV and then bitch about the miserable number of Hendrix's vids views, which always cracks me up. My conclusion sounds ugly but sums up my observations: while probably not all Hendrix fans are morons, EVERY moron seems to be a Hendrix fan
5507156693 1 year ago 27
@5507156693 ..the fact that hendrix is even compared to srv is a joke...srv is and was the greatest ever...hendrix in my view..isnt even in the discussion...
johnny2366 1 year ago 24
It's hard not to agree while listening to this stunning performance...Stevie made me like this song anyway; and his version of Little Wing is a true masterpiece. All in all I think one single "best" does not exist but Hendrix fans are so brainwashed and intolerant (maybe simply jealous) that your statement just warms my heart
5507156693 1 year ago 26
I guess, there's no better way to play it like this. Stevie Ray, i loved your performances
Handtaschenbaer 2 years ago 230
An absolutely mean & wicked version. You gotta sell your soul to play like that.

watch him at 3:20, it's like he's saying "yea that's right, I'm doing this every day" just so awesome, I feel this is the best version I have watched so far.

Yeah for this version, it sounds MORE like Hendrix then it usually does. Stevie was really experimenting at this time in his career too

the move it puts on that lick at 3:25 just shows how much he felt the music and he was a channel where he wasnt playing music he was truly releasing it from i different place.

MTV should have shown some respect and chosen someone else to announce SRV's death instead of this guy who was pretty negative about Stevie while writing for RS Magazine; in this vid Loder will always look hypocritical to me..

@5507156693 Agreed

@5507156693 Kurt Loder is an arrogant, provincial asshole. He is a GLARING example of how critics are nothing more than people who couldn't hack it at something they always wanted to do...But couldn't because they lacked talent. THOSE WHO CANNOT DO WILL CRITICIZE THOSE WHO CAN.
guitarthroat 1 year ago 25
@guitarthroat It's hilarious to read what critics with authority wrote about the works of their contemporaries Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, Van Gogh, the impressionists etc. Those damn clowns would die of shame instantly if miraculously brought back to life. Why don’t modern critics learn a lesson from those before them is beyond me

@guitarthroat what did loder say about srv?
turnbacktime 11 months ago
@turnbacktime He made statements that he was a "Hendrix clone" and that he wondered if he ever listened to Jimi's original version of "Voodoo Chile". From what I read in Stevie's autobiography Soul to Soul, Stevie said himself that Kurt was pretty much just pompous and rude to him like he was unworthy to even cover Hendrix material. Kurt is a fucking asshole to lots of musicians. Probably out of jealousy. THOSE WHO CANNOT DO, WILL CRITICISE THOSE WHO CAN!!!
guitarthroat 11 months ago 10
@guitarthroat

Nothing really other than the fact that he was a limp-dicked pillow biter, he ass raped the Blues when it was on its last legs and made a carreer out of pretending to be somebody talented (Jimi Hendrix).
I'm also not keen on his singing voice which sounded like a man straining on the toilet with a difficult turd.
I guess other than that he was ok.

capostatus64 2 years ago
