"Hey Marc, relax, open up." Nobody wants to see that.
Q: But if you were a friend of Marc in real life you would tell him that.
FDF: But I don't think that he would have friends. On tv it's very entertaining, but in real life it's really hard. But even Gretchen would be a catastrophe in real life.
Q: Definitely! Ok, one last question: Do you prefer working in front of or behind the camera?
FDF: Both. At the moment I prefer acting, because it doesn't mean being responsible for the film.
Everyone has to find out what it means for himself to live a fair a and honest life.
Q: The role of my life would be...?
FDF: Difficult to tell. It would be a good role. Christoph Waltz played the role of his life. Hannibal Lecter was the perfect role for Anthony Hopkins.
Q: I would like to work with the film directors...?
FDF: Michael Haneke, Dominik Graf, Detelf Buck and many others.
Q: If I was Marc Meier...?
FDF: You've seen what happened when I played the role of Marc Meier in all
He is generous, warm-hearted, passionate and sometimes he's just the opposite of all this.
Q: That sounds fascinating. I don't like people...?
FDF: exhaling cigarette smoke into my face. I try to train myself not to judge other people too much about what they do, because I tend to judge too often.
Q: Your guiding principle?
FDF: Balance. Not doing too much or not enough. To find the balance between sleaziness and passion and to be honest and fair in your life.
It keeps me grounded to know that there are still family members that where there before me to whom I can position myself in a positive or negative way. I think it's difficult for everyone, no matter how old you are, to lose your parents, because suddenly you're all alone and you have to grow up.
Q: Simon is a good friend, because...?
FDF: He's a good friend in many different ways, because he's smart and fascinating, because he has two different sides which I find both very fascinating.
but there are disadvantages and advantages that come with the wealth. It has become very cozy, very neat and very exclusive, but it's less vivid than Berlin. Berlin is changing too.
Q: Family is important because...?
FDF: That too has something to do with your roots. The first half of your life you're fighting against your family, the second half of your life you realise how great it is to be part of a family, because you realise that the loss of a family (member) leaves a big void in your life.
It wasn't until I spend time in the States that I realised: That's where I come from. It's a really nice feeling. It doesn't mean that I have to go back home, but it's good to know where the tree has its roots, then it can stretch out its branches wherever it wants.
Q: Really nice answer. What I like about Berlin...?
FDF: I like a lot about Berlin. I like about it, that it is completely different from Munich, that there's alway something to see.
And then I show the wikipedia article to the other person on my mobile phone, after having it looked up, but only If I'm right. If the other person's right I keep it to myself [laughing].
Q: With music....?
FDF: Almost everything with music.
Q: My dog is...?
FDF: exhausting, still funny, even after all these years.
Q: How old is the dog?
FDF: 9 years and he is unbelievably greedy!
Q: home means to me...?
FDF: home is a feeling that you don't get until you're away from home.
I already mentioned some of them in other interviews and I don't want to reiterate them.
Q: I'm using the internet...?
FDF: As limited as possible without wanting to criticize the media :-) That's because of my dependent behaviour towards the internet. For me it's like eating sweets or watching tv: do it moderately. I love using the internet to look things up on wikipedia. I'm a huge fan of wikipedia. I always look things up immediately because I'm a self-righteous person.
Q: Yes.... Sales figures on Amazon will increase ;-).
FDF: Oh, and finally "Rückenwind" by Max Urlacher.
Q: If I didn't have the possibility to do films, I would...?
FDF: There were many things I did before starting to do films. I would try to enjoy whatever I do. Sometimes it's more about enjoying what you do than finding something to do that you enjoy.
Q: A good film has to...?
FDF: ...Be entertaining, which doesn't mean slapstick scenes, but the film needs to be interesting and
but it's actually a really good book. Then there's "The kindly ones" by Jonathan Littell, but I think none of you will actually read it because it's a really thick book about the 3rd Reich and the Nazis. I love both the novels "Freedom" and " The Corrections" by Jonathan Franzen. They are great novels of the century. If you like a classical book, then I'd suggest "Buddenbrooks" by Thomas Mann, I love "Me and Kaminski" by Daniel Kehlmann. I like Tchechovs short stories. Is that enough?
FDF: Different activities. I hate waiting. By now I change books very quickly when reading. I read the first 50 to 60 pages of a book and then throw it away if it's boring, but that happens rarely. But these days one gets bored much faster, because life goes on so fast. So it's good to read books to slow down.
Q: Name a book everyone should read
FDF: I won't say "Measuring the World" since we just talked about it before [the interview],
Q: Good answer. The most beautiful season of the year is...?
FDF: Spring and autumn.
Q: Why?
FDF: Spring, because everything is still ahead of you. Autumn, because everything becomes clearer and days are shorter so you can allow yourself to be lazy in the evenings without feeling bad.
@ALM286: I tried to translate the interview with Florian into English. I hope you get what he's saying even if my translation is far from being perfect ;-)
The first few seconds [up to 00.35] of the video Florian (FDF) makes some jokes about the way they do the interview, which is difficult to translate, so I start with the questions and answers:
Q: A perfect day starts with...?
FDF: ...getting up.
Q: And then?
FDF: late breakfast, going jogging before breakfast and then reading the newspaper

the seasons of "Doctor's Diary". If I was like Marc Meier then I would behave in the same way I played the role.
Q: But that wasn't you, that was the role. But if you had the chance to say something to Marc. What would it be?
FDF: You can't cure Marc Meier! Otherwise it would be boring to watch. Now you're disappointed?
Q: No, but there are certain things one would tell Marc....
FDF: What would you say to him?
Q: I haven't thought about that.
FDF: You would say something like:

I like the buildings, the people that I know there. It has a different taste than Munich. But I'm missing the Englischer Garten from Munich.
Q: I hate about Munich...?
FDF: Is this an anti-Munich campaign?
Q: No, no, but you always rave about Munich, so we want to see the other side and ask the question the other way round.
FDF: The things people don't like about Munich have already been mentioned so many times and I do agree, Munich has become a really wealthy city

Q: Some kind of a message?
FDF: Whatsoever. A message is perhaps too dogmatic, but a good has to be interesting for me and maybe even affect me in some way.
Q: Which is the best film you've ever seen?
FDF: That's really difficult to tell with films, because I forget it immediately.
Q: But if you had to recommend one film, which one would you choose?
