  • Quite low compression ratio. The lowest turbo diesel compression ratio I have ever heard is 16:1. Do you think it would blow with the original 20:1?

  • been looking to put a diesel in a motorcycle and possibly turbo'n it as well. I have been floowing Craig Vetter and his pursuit of a motorcycle that will haul at least 4 bags of groceries, do 70+mph, into a headwind up to 30mph and still get 100MPG! There's the challenge. I want to build one to enjoy and to complete at one of his events! thanks and keep up the great work! :{)

  • Put a load on it like a trailer or something!

  • HE EVEN HAS A GAUGE!!!!

  • That is an awesome engine i didnt think the turbo would work with that small engine nice job!!!

  • How much boost are you running through it? and have you put it on a dyno too see what the increase is?

  • Lol purr like a kitten =D

  • why would you reduce the compression ratio to 14:1

  • @propanemower13

to keep the dynamic compression ratio correct when on boost.

if I put twice as much air into an engine that has 12: static compression ratio then the dynamic CR is 24:1.

if pressure gets to high things break etc but also the temperature of combustion gets to high and the fuel can explode as its injected rather than burn, this is especially bad for petrol cars that run a mixture as it all explodes at once where as a diesel explodes as its injected over a few degrees (10-30?)

  • @tpvalley oh ok thanks. i apreciate that information.

  • @tpvalley ya but that for engines that get like 100psi of boost, most turbo diesel have 19 to 1 compretion an they can run 60psi of boost on that.

  • @ps3dethman1

19:1 is high for 60psi, I can tell u that ford reduce compression from 21.5:1 to 16.5:1 for only about 25psi for marine applications, u can get diesel knock or even an equivilent of detonation as the diesel is injected it detonates rather than burns so u loose power and melt pistons eventually.

engines running 60-100psi are competition engines that wont run well at low rpm due to low compression/ need ether for 1st 5 minutes to keep going!

  • @tpvalley 21.5 to 1 was the old idi engines all the powerstroke turbo diesel are 17.5 to 1. and the 6.4 can run up to 59psi on a stock engine with just a tune. an the cumming marie 5.9 h.o engine (500hp) is 17 to 1. im just sayin 14 to one is to low for what you have an ur prolly lossing bottom to mid range power.

  • @ps3dethman1

hoghly tuned diesels have no bottom end power for this very reason, hve u seen tractor pull engines warming up?

u need easy start/ether for first 10 minutes!

I have seen a powerstroke with 150psi boost and about 1300bhp.

  • @tpvalley ya ive gona to alot of tractor pulls, i know some one that has a white that has about 1000hp that he pulls with. it take eaither to get turned over but it dosnt need it after that. i know there was a p pump powerstroke at this one pull and it took a can of eather to fire on it own. but im sayin why 14:1 on a small diesel that prolly only gona make like 15 psi mabie 20?

  • @ps3dethman1

the max I ever used was 21.5:1 with 25psi boost, that was an old ford 1.8idi diesel.

  • @tpvalley ya thos engines are rare.. im talkin about the engine in the vid btw

  • @ps3dethman1

actually over here the 1.8 diesel is the most common.I have a 60bhp non turbo, before that the 90bhp version.

    the principle still applies.

easiest thing is to add more fuel!

  • @tpvalley ohh haha where ya from?

  • @ps3dethman1

    England.

they do many MPG but fuel costs = to $12 a gallon!!

  • @tpvalley holy shit! i thought $4.25 was expensive. i would boycot everybody till it went down

  • @ps3dethman1

ha, then u would run out of fuel, oil companies are massive and the garages hardly make a profit- about

3p/5c a litre.(4.5 litres in english gallon US gallon is about 4 litres I think).

    I can do 50mpg though.

wish we had more V8 diesels like 6.2 or ford 7.3idi.

I almost bought a right hand drive chevy, like a suburban pickup with the 6.2.

  • @tpvalley if ya wana get a good fuel efficent truck get a 99-03 7.3 powestroke superduty 6speed stick and put water meth injection on it should be around 25mpg . lol also you could just go and run vegie oil from fast food places if ya boycot lol

  • @ps3dethman1

veg oil kills common rails HP pumps, clearances to tight for thicker oil.

I use veg oil in summer on my mechanical inj bosch ve pumped diesel, either buy it new at 0.9£/litre or get it free from near the rubbish/garbage bins behind chinese restaraunt or intend to next year!

  • @ps3dethman1 Good advice, we did just that and also am adding a nice Hydrogen Fuel cell to ours in a couple of months. We have the 01' PowerStroke Excursion and at 9k, it is a tank! But we still squeeze 18mpg out of it.

  • @ps3dethman1 we were at $4.50@gl for diesel here in North Idaho, thankfully we are down to $3.78 now...man it bites!

  • @MikeOBrien6640 lucky its down to $3.98 here in upstate new york.. i like seeing 5 gallons of fuel for 20$

  • make another video revin and driving around :D love it

  • now that is one fine mower
