  • I have a bunch of coins that were damaged in a house that flooded. Some of these coins are pretty heavily damaged with rust and a green-colored corrosion. If I do the same thing that you did in this video, will the rust and green corrosion come off the coins ?

  • if ur going 2 use a tumbler the best thing is just put bb s and landery detergent then tumble 4 apx 4 hrs much better than what i saw here

  • i ruined a bunch of found coins with a tumbler :(

  • i have a bronze 1925 stone mountain half doller and i heard that if its in good condition it worth about 500$

  • @MrLambr what ever you do dont clean it then. its gonna ruin the value

  • Bon Ami is an abrasive and doesn't it scratch the coin surfaces?

  • That is terrible !!! Don't do that ! It causes extra abrasions and scratches that severely decreases the value and condition of the coins !!!

  • Check out NerdRage's video on cleaning tarnished silver, he displays a very easy, fast method.

    Link: watch?v=vGCx9HZwYBo&feature=feedrec_grec_index

  • Cleaning coins with baking soda will ruin any collectible value they have!

You should never rub a coins surface with anything but a qtip and ammonia. You can also use MS70 coin cleaner and a qtip. I believe MS70 coin cleaner is ammonia anyway... It will remove all dirt, and won't ruin the coin by scratching the surface. Make sure to thoroughly rinse the coin in distilled water if possible and pat dry, never wipe dry.

  • If you have any coins that you think are of any value, have them checked by someone who KNOWS about coins....because ordinarliy you NEVER clean coins

  • you can check out my affordable home silver cleaning and plating kit too!

  • i never seen E.Z.Est cleaner but its hell effective!!

  • Do you rinse after using the lemon juice? Please tell me asap becaus eI have my coins soaking in it right now

  • @chinchillaman1 ..........Of course you rinse...after abour 5/10 minutes..Then pat dry

  • Where do you get that E.Z.Est cleaner?

  • @crashdude24 ...Coin/Jewelry shop

  • Not sure why your investing the time on 1950s nickels. the only nickels that have silver in them are the wartime nickels frim 1942-1945, They will have a blackened look to them due to the zinc they put in them, They are 35% silver, short of those years, the pre 1965 guidline does not go for nickels. I made the mistake of thinking the buffalos were 25% and learned my lesson the hard way, Just glad I didnt invest much.

  • @umustwantme ......Nickles have stayed the same 1938/2000...Older than 1950...Is old ...out of circulation in the US ...Mostly..

  • @219erman What?

  • just gently rub it

  • thank for the video ,,, and make look so easy!

  • I got 3 "V" nickels in a tube lot at 50 cents a pop in 4 rolls thus far that are not key dates but better dates & appear in a "rusty" corroded obverse & reverse condition where they appear to be XF grades therein. I don't have a tumbler. The three "V" nickels are two 1883 "no cents" & one 1892 nickel & like I said before they appear to be XF grades. Of the three the 1892 seems to have the least deformative appearance. There are no nicks nor any apparent abrasions on the coins. What can I use?

  • @DetroitLove4U Leave them alone..If they were in G shape. I might suggest something. They are collectable in the shape they are in.The ONLY thing I might suggest..Go to a coin shop and purchase a bottle of 'Coin Care'..Take a Q-tip..Brush it on to remove finger prints & surface grime..After a couple minuites...Dab with a cotton cloth & put in a coin flip..No more than that is nessasary..Tell the coin dealer what you've got ,and what I said, before trying this...See what they say..Good Luck, Dave

  • @219erman I shall endeavor to inquire on this product "Coin Care" on my next visit with the coin dealer which should be tomorrow. I hope this is a nationwide product I live in Southern California. Thank You for your time and insights. Much Obliged.

  • @219erman hey just curious i have the lemon juice that comes in the little bottle that looks like a lemon will that work

  • @gtafanatic63 ...........Yes

  • @219erman im only 13 but i collect us coins also i have a silver tarnish cloth and it really does a great job at cleaning silver coins

  • gtafanatic63 ...I will be making another coin cleaning video soon..It will include how to clean silver without rubbing it..I have changed my view on baking soda rub..Nor should you polish silver coins with a cloth..Unless you want to degrade the collectors value..Or plan to never sell them...Thanks for watching & commenting on my video buddy...Dave

  • @219erman yeah man i love your vids some day ill upload one but i just display my coins i would never sell them and plus they were in a real bad condition now they look great i honestly dont see any scratches on the coin after cleaning

  • i love coins man thanks

  • What metal detector do you have?

  • A Minelab Etra darnic14 ..To learn more about my equipment, favorite metal detecting books & ect..Check out my homepage profile..Allot of info there.

  • like your video, I use a dremel with a light wire attachment and I have not ruined any of my coins. After that I use a polish compound and a buffing pad to bring the shine out. Hope this is helpful to you.

  • Thanks calangel21 ...That sounds like it will work well with Nickles..But I'll still 'dab' my common silver coins with baking soda...I will not clean a key date coin at all tho...Thanks for watching & taking the time to comment on my video.

  • Sick that is cool I want to clean my wheat penny but idk if I should

  • you shoudnt clean coins, it devalues them

  • Great vid man! I would drop everyone of those coins down the drain with my luck!

  • this makes me very sick to my stomach, what if you had a very valuable coin and ruin it

  • You really should watch a video all the way threw before commenting carrot ass ..I look at all the coins, and set aside the rare ones so they won't be cleaned...The common coins get cleaned...Even a coin shop owner told me it does not hurt to clean common date ones...Just not semi key or key dates...I don't know why you are so sick & upset....I did not clean one coin that had

carrot ass stamped on it...So chill

  • @219erman haha carrot ass

  • i realy think u need 2 cut ur nailes, but good vid bro, thanks :)

  • LOL...thanks for watching and commenting farshad94abedi ...Maybe I should trim up...LOL

  • i got a coin it has no information and looks like a penny wat is it

  • If it has no information on it...It may not even be a coin...Or it may be soo worn it may be worthless...It is hard to tell without seeing a good picture of it 24Timmy10

  • Very informative! Looking forward to watching part 2 and 3. I ahve been hooked on these videos, and I gonna buy my first detector in a few weeks. Got any advice - got $200.00 budget.

  • Look into getting an Ace 150 or 260...Made by Garrett...swaghunter

  • I used a magic eraser to clean my tarnished silver dimes and one silver dollar. It's easy, way less messy and works great!

  • nice results but what do you use exactly for ingredients beqause i'm frome holland and i got no idea what all that stuf is

    thanks for showing us dave

  • Look for Sodium Bicarbonte...That is the ingrediant in Baking Soda you want

  • Jack Daniels is the best! Good video, thanks!

  • Thanks JRCrowley ...Jack is the best, I agree

  • this is a good and top video by you mate, simple and effective and no b/sh#@t, something we all can relate to young and old, well done and thankyou for something most of us struggle with when cleaning our coins/finds,,,

PS not any more though, sydney down under!!!!!!!!

  • This is very interesting and helpful. Im new to the coin collecting and am thinking of buying uncleaned greek/roman coins. Can anyone tell me how to clean those type of coins??

  • @soljah101 ..Cleaning old Greek & Roman Coins?..Now THAT is history..& I would not want to speculate how to clean them..Tho..If they were common bronze coins...DiggingNorway heats them in an oven & lightly brushes the dirt off..You will have to check with him..I think I would be proud to just have a dirty 2,000 year old coin...Do not Clean a valuable coin..It will loose it's value

  • @soljah101 .. u can use electrolysis.

  • dude do u gonna sell these

  • No The6191470 ..I'll save them for my most interested Grandchild

  • Ah i guess you have about as many BRAINS as DetroitLove4U. You don't clean the TARNISH off SILVER COINS!! You now have coins that are basically worth only SILVER WEIGHT.

  • I got this advise from a coin dealer that uses this method on average silver smart guy..Baking soda does not hurt the average silver coin..I would not do it to either a mint shape, key date or rare one...LOL..But I guess you didn't watch my video long enough to hear me say that..? Or did You Smart Guy ?..LOL

  • redsoxstillrock08 is a dumbass lol

  • Very nice mate! They look absolutely fantastic!!

  • Thanks Dave!! I am going to do this to my coins. Your right, who wants dirty looking coins in their coin flips? Can't wait to do it for myself!

  • do u know how to make the rust off a 18 centry key . ive tryed cleaning it

  • Nice shot glasses!

  • @Flagged4PvP ............LOL....Thanks

  • If you would have even watched the video.........You would know that I do not tumble ANY Silver........Watch a video before you lip-off next time Boy

  • try using mild taco bell sauce! it works great.

  • works great on what ? Nickles ?.......

  • @219erman believe it or not pennies is what it cleans well but i am sure that it will clean the crap out of nickles to . no abrasives. If you dont believe try it yourself. go to taco bell , open a package of mild taco sauce stick a tarnished penny inside and pull it out after you eat .

  • 219erman - I just got from my coin dealer a free 1870 Shield Nickel with very well defined attributes on the obverse and reverse, however, as similar to the "V" and Buffalo Nickels at the beginning of this video it is very dark and has a mold on parts of the edge, rim and on parts of the lower obverse field and reverse upper field of the coin. So if I follow your method but to a lesser degree to perform such on only ONE coin be it this nickel - do I need a tumbler source. Can I let sit moreover?

  • I don't think it wise to clean your Shiel Nickle at all if you are at all worried about the collectability/value...That being said...The next time I find some moldy Jeffersons (Not Collectable or valuable)...I think I may try soaking them an hour or 2 in 7 parts water 3 parts pinesol......But I do not advise you to try it on your $25 + coin

  • could you give me a tip on cleaning a acient roman coin. i got one that is 1800 years old.

  • Not knowing whether it is copper silver or Gold....Nor knowing it's rarity....I suggest you not try to clean it.

  • I threw mine in the washing machine with cat litter for three days, sadly they ddin't come out nice.

  • Zimtran99 Quote"""I threw mine in the washing machine with cat litter for three days, sadly they ddin't come out nice"""....My Answer......"Sorry Man....but....Thats cuz cat dung has too much amonia in it which will".......LOL.......Just kidding............

Before I got a rock tumbler .....I used to put my clad in an old sock, and throw it in the washer....LOL.....Got away with it twice....Before the wife Bitched me out....LOL....Gave me the right excuse to get that first Rock Tumbler.....LOL

  • Cool cleanin techniques ! I'm breakin out my tumbler.

  • I'm just now starting to clean my wheats and Nickles after the hunt....But I was having so much good luck last year I couldn't keep up.....I will still clean 100's of wheats, and ALWAYS the clad that way tho....Thanks for your comment CladCoin

  • I used to use Scrub Free to clean non-silver coins. Sometimes I'd get some coins really brilliantly full of luster. Nowadays - I dare not attempt such matters. I used Scrub Free one time on a well circulated 1917 $1 U.S. Bank Note!!!

  • I will see if I can find some and try it....Thankx

  • good video

  • Thx cosner4

  • look at the lenght of the movie........ :(

  • Just curious......What is your point.........

mrman12345678910 ?.......Cause it takes a bit of time to clean allot of coins.....So ???????

  • @219erman im sry i was just being stupid

  • Did you do the Buffalo's and V's I really want to see that?

  • I loaded it last week, but there was a problem, and You Tube wouldn't take it..I will re-do and load it by the end of the week....Thanks for your interest

  • Not only did I find the 1922 plain detecting some years back...I have already sold it...

    It was very invironmentally damaged..

I remember when I was in school around 1962-64...There was a kid showing his (Misprinted 55 double die) he got in change....A teacher or janitor offered him a silver dollar for it and he took it....Bettcha he wishes he hadn't done that now..

  • Great way to clean silver. I've been using toothpaste. I think your way is cheaper. Those nickels cleaned up real nice. Wow, you found a lot of Buffalos and V-nickels this year. I definitely learned something. Thanks!

  • gibsondan a Coin shop owner told me to clean ALL my coins with Baking soda & water......I cleaned my 1896 O XF Braber Quarter that way.....and my 1922 plain wheat cent that way....It does'nt hurt um....

& Yeah it is a cheap method....

  • Great video Dave! i will be using some of your methods.Thx

  • Thanks for your kind comment NiagracountyNY ....If you have any suggestions on coin cleaning...I can try them on camera as well...While I am making part 2 & 3 of the series.

  • Those Nickels Turned Out Great!!

Can't Wait To See How The Other Ones Come Out!!

    HH!!

  • Thanks....I hope the rocks don't wear down the "V" & Buffalo nickles to much tho

  • This will be a very good series to look back on. Thanks Dave.

  • Yes ,, I am still experimenting with some cleaning methods ...and the only truths I have found is...(1) Never clean a rare coin (2) In Cleaning common coins...The same method for cleaning Nickles does not work well on pennies or silver...The method that works well on pennies & Indian heads houldn't be used on Nickles or silver....and The only way I clean silver (Usually) is a baking soda rub ...That can be done on all coins with decent results.

    (3) Found a rare coin ? Rinse w/dist water & Pat
