I have a bunch of coins that were damaged in a house that flooded. Some of these coins are pretty heavily damaged with rust and a green-colored corrosion. If I do the same thing that you did in this video, will the rust and green corrosion come off the coins ?

Cleaning coins with baking soda will ruin any collectible value they have!
You should never rub a coins surface with anything but a qtip and ammonia. You can also use MS70 coin cleaner and a qtip. I believe MS70 coin cleaner is ammonia anyway... It will remove all dirt, and won't ruin the coin by scratching the surface. Make sure to thoroughly rinse the coin in distilled water if possible and pat dry, never wipe dry.
Not sure why your investing the time on 1950s nickels. the only nickels that have silver in them are the wartime nickels frim 1942-1945, They will have a blackened look to them due to the zinc they put in them, They are 35% silver, short of those years, the pre 1965 guidline does not go for nickels. I made the mistake of thinking the buffalos were 25% and learned my lesson the hard way, Just glad I didnt invest much.
I got 3 "V" nickels in a tube lot at 50 cents a pop in 4 rolls thus far that are not key dates but better dates & appear in a "rusty" corroded obverse & reverse condition where they appear to be XF grades therein. I don't have a tumbler. The three "V" nickels are two 1883 "no cents" & one 1892 nickel & like I said before they appear to be XF grades. Of the three the 1892 seems to have the least deformative appearance. There are no nicks nor any apparent abrasions on the coins. What can I use?
@DetroitLove4U Leave them alone..If they were in G shape. I might suggest something. They are collectable in the shape they are in.The ONLY thing I might suggest..Go to a coin shop and purchase a bottle of 'Coin Care'..Take a Q-tip..Brush it on to remove finger prints & surface grime..After a couple minuites...Dab with a cotton cloth & put in a coin flip..No more than that is nessasary..Tell the coin dealer what you've got ,and what I said, before trying this...See what they say..Good Luck, Dave
@219erman I shall endeavor to inquire on this product "Coin Care" on my next visit with the coin dealer which should be tomorrow. I hope this is a nationwide product I live in Southern California. Thank You for your time and insights. Much Obliged.
gtafanatic63 ...I will be making another coin cleaning video soon..It will include how to clean silver without rubbing it..I have changed my view on baking soda rub..Nor should you polish silver coins with a cloth..Unless you want to degrade the collectors value..Or plan to never sell them...Thanks for watching & commenting on my video buddy...Dave
@219erman yeah man i love your vids some day ill upload one but i just display my coins i would never sell them and plus they were in a real bad condition now they look great i honestly dont see any scratches on the coin after cleaning
like your video, I use a dremel with a light wire attachment and I have not ruined any of my coins. After that I use a polish compound and a buffing pad to bring the shine out. Hope this is helpful to you.
Thanks calangel21 ...That sounds like it will work well with Nickles..But I'll still 'dab' my common silver coins with baking soda...I will not clean a key date coin at all tho...Thanks for watching & taking the time to comment on my video.
You really should watch a video all the way threw before commenting carrot ass ..I look at all the coins, and set aside the rare ones so they won't be cleaned...The common coins get cleaned...Even a coin shop owner told me it does not hurt to clean common date ones...Just not semi key or key dates...I don't know why you are so sick & upset....I did not clean one coin that had

This is very interesting and helpful. Im new to the coin collecting and am thinking of buying uncleaned greek/roman coins. Can anyone tell me how to clean those type of coins??
@soljah101 ..Cleaning old Greek & Roman Coins?..Now THAT is history..& I would not want to speculate how to clean them..Tho..If they were common bronze coins...DiggingNorway heats them in an oven & lightly brushes the dirt off..You will have to check with him..I think I would be proud to just have a dirty 2,000 year old coin...Do not Clean a valuable coin..It will loose it's value
Ah i guess you have about as many BRAINS as DetroitLove4U. You don't clean the TARNISH off SILVER COINS!! You now have coins that are basically worth only SILVER WEIGHT.
I got this advise from a coin dealer that uses this method on average silver smart guy..Baking soda does not hurt the average silver coin..I would not do it to either a mint shape, key date or rare one...LOL..But I guess you didn't watch my video long enough to hear me say that..? Or did You Smart Guy ?..LOL
@219erman believe it or not pennies is what it cleans well but i am sure that it will clean the crap out of nickles to . no abrasives. If you dont believe try it yourself. go to taco bell , open a package of mild taco sauce stick a tarnished penny inside and pull it out after you eat .
219erman - I just got from my coin dealer a free 1870 Shield Nickel with very well defined attributes on the obverse and reverse, however, as similar to the "V" and Buffalo Nickels at the beginning of this video it is very dark and has a mold on parts of the edge, rim and on parts of the lower obverse field and reverse upper field of the coin. So if I follow your method but to a lesser degree to perform such on only ONE coin be it this nickel - do I need a tumbler source. Can I let sit moreover?
I don't think it wise to clean your Shiel Nickle at all if you are at all worried about the collectability/value...That being said...The next time I find some moldy Jeffersons (Not Collectable or valuable)...I think I may try soaking them an hour or 2 in 7 parts water 3 parts pinesol......But I do not advise you to try it on your $25 + coin

Great way to clean silver. I've been using toothpaste. I think your way is cheaper. Those nickels cleaned up real nice. Wow, you found a lot of Buffalos and V-nickels this year. I definitely learned something. Thanks!
gibsondan a Coin shop owner told me to clean ALL my coins with Baking soda & water......I cleaned my 1896 O XF Braber Quarter that way.....and my 1922 plain wheat cent that way....It does'nt hurt um....
