  • dats unfair coz the elephant got a bit of xtra weight on its side with the man on top

  • They got fvcking owned :D

  • 2:10 for action thumbs up for the newbies

  • na hes a big well fed lad id say 5+ton ,biggest asian bulls get low 6's now there mostly in captivity. its 80 plus harness. +1 his driver doh ! i can honestly say out of the 20 or 30 so animal vs man vids ive seen this big chap definitely knows what he has to do and he really gives it his all ! unlike the crappy man vs primate vids ive just bin watching where the chimp or orang dont even know whats going on or that he should be aggressively competing vs the human infront of him

  • This elephant is about 4 tons (4000kg) while Thai peoples is average 67kg. This competition put 80 men to one elephant ( 67 x 80 = 5360kg > 4000kg) . Elephant still got them!!!

They are so worthy to save......

  • GO ELEPHANT GO!!!!!!!!

  • I bet the men are well weak lol :)

  • 167 men, and then maybe u will win

  • "God" of Tug-of-War

  • those people are RETARTED

  • momentum is a bitch.

  • Cool, an Elephant Rodeo!

  • this makes me giggle. watching the elephant pulling on that rope, he starts going forward, camera pans back..65 men sprawled out on the ground. ha!

  • whoo he's very strong!

  • it's simple math. let's say the elephant weighs 10,000 lbs. in order to beat an elephant that size, a well coordinated group would need more than 10,000 lbs. (or approximately 65 male adults). notice i did say well coordinated. now 100 average sized adults would easily win a tug-o-war match not only beacause of more mass, but also from a traction point of view.

  • ZX

You are correct up to a point however:

I think even 65 'well coordinated' males adults should win easily; 100 is way over the top.

If F=MR where F is friction, M is coefficient of friction and R is vertical reation (also equal to total mass). Therefore M (people) would be much greater than M(elephant) due to 65 people have a much greater surface area in contact with ground than the elephant does, therefore the people have a big advantage.

    What do you think?

    Raj

  • I meant 'reaction' not reation'

  • accidently marked your comment as spam when i went to reply, so i gave it a thumbs up to compensate, sorry. :) well, i think you are on to something. however, the {estimated} 50 people in this video have a much larger foot print and still clearly lose. so you think that the elephant would simply not have enough traction against a well coordinated group of men weighing a couple hundred pounds less than the elephant?

  • one other thing, in a tug-of-war match, wouldnt the elephants smaller footprint dig in to the ground, where the larger footprint of 65 men would moreless act as a sled?

  • ZX

Sorry I have a new channel now!!

    Let's assume as you mentioned:

mass (65 men) = mass (elephant)

The estimated 50 men in this video only 'just' lose as you can see the elephant losing traction a few times.

The elephant only has to make a single mistake on one foot and that's say 25% of it's pulling power gone. 50 humans can make numerous mistakes and still not lose 25% power.

It would take less than 65 men to have the same amount of traction as the elephant.

  • However if the elephant digs it's toes in that would be an advantage the humans couldn't match. Accept the humans all digging in a small amount could outway the elephant digging in a larger amount.

The elephant has a disadvantage because the men who join the team are 'fresh' where as the elephant has already had several pulls already. Also the elephant has additional weight of human on back; will give extra traction but all so tire elephant quicker.

    I DON'T KNOW THE ANSWER MATE.LOL

  • :))

  • @ZXcannon A single elephant would have better traction than 100 men, even though the men outweigh it the elpehant exorts all its power on a much smaller surface, since all of the elephants mass is in one place while the men are distributed on a much larger surface

  • @Jaahaah What if they were on concrete as opposed to the dirt surface? It seems like the people would have an advantage. For instance, a sports car is equipped with wide tires for more contact with the road, whereas a rally car is equipped with a less wide tire to dig into the dirt.

  • thats amazing. 1 elephant beating what 100-200 people?

  • An elephant cannot beat over 100 people.

I've seen tug-o-wars like this before twice, once on news TV and once in real life.

Theoretically an adult bull elephant can beat 7 full size horses( the one I witnessed) . 1 horse's strengh approximately equals the combined strength of 10 men. So that adds up to an elephant being able to beat 70 men. The one time I saw on the news, when the elephant beat 60 men, that elephant wasn't really trying very hard. So now you know how tiny humans are.

  • LOL those are skinny weak thai kids. Try throw 20 strong men in there, the elefant would be pinned. =)

  • I dont think so,but this elephant was quite small,I would be very intrested if taking a big african elephant bull against strong man, that would be a real competition

  • you really don't know how strong an elephant can be.

In early 90s there was a demonstration of an average sized elephant winning a real tug o war against 60 full grown men. The elephant even pulled them all off their feet and dragged them on the ground. Amazing. It was done at the closing of a festival in Taiwan. An elephant can flip over a big truck with just its nose. You really need to re-think here. 60 men cannot do anything against a full grown elephant, 20 men? what a joke!

  • These Thai people are not kids.

Do you have some problem distinguishing Asian people?

I'm Asian myself and these are so obviously adults.

  • The angle of the camera makes them look smaller than they really are.

They're equal height as those men tiing the elephant. The participants look at least over 20 years old. not kids.

  • Maybe you dont know what is elephant when you wrote such nonsense..:-)

  • At the end it really seemed that the elephant began to struggle-but she made it,grat.!

  • Those kids are 12 and are barefoot. I could beat them.

  • you yourself beating almost 60 kids i dont belive it

  • shows how puny we really are

  • Hahaha

  • no teamwork. hands down

  • would be more intresting if the people could do tug of war properly in my opinion

  • thats not even a fully grown female elephant

  • Elephant = awesome

  • the people are way too dispersed. the ones standing away from the crowd aren't adding anything lol

  • wow amazing

  • Thai Elephants are often used as tools to attract tourists ... this is not fair if you see how the animals are poorly treated... Thai people should treat the elephants

  • ไอ้เรื่องการทรมานสัตว์นี่ถนัดเหลือเกิน

  • i wouldnt have thought it and elephant could beat up this many people

  • Its just a female Asian Elephant, imagen what a Bull African Elephant would have done
