very sad news to hear of the extended hiatus of such an awesome band. i love the shit out of these guys and they've done so much for me over the years. definitely looking forward to them getting back together, however long that may be.
I love Thrice, but everyone on here seems to be making them seem like a Jesus-obsessed Christian band. I'm aware of Kensrue's religiousness, but don't make it seem like anyone who doesn't interpret all of their songs in a Christian context is an idiot. Bums me out really, poor deluded people...
@ebninjadude How do you interpret this song? True many of their songs have no Christian context, but I feel the biblical influence in this one is rather blatant...
@thomascperez No I completely agree for this song, it's very blatant and everything. That was more directed at the people acting like every song Thrice has ever written has to mean something about jesus or christianity. It's kind of ridiculous when they shoot people down for not having that interpretation about everything they listen to. People should be able to enjoy music and make up their own interpretations, rather than saying "it has to mean (insert bible rantings and bs here)."
@thomascperez also, go see thrice live with there new album, i saw them for the second time on the 30th and they were fantastic with their new stuff lol.
Haha, ya, went to see them live about a month ago. Hands down best concert I've ever been to :D
Yeah, I get what you mean now with people assuming Christian context with all the songs. There was a comment on yellowbelly about how biblical it is. No, just no. :P
@thomascperez Definitely not with Yellow Belly. Considering how almost heavy-handed the Christian context is with the rest of Thrice's lyrics since Vhiessu, I would think that the non-Christian bits would start to stand out more, like a vocal minority.
Which kinda makes me sound like I don't like all the God stuff. Totally not true.
My favorite song from this album used to be Treading Paper; after that it was Listen Through me, then Blinded, and finally this one. However I regard every song on Major/Minor as a masterpiece, but the raw emotion of Dustin's voice when singing this song really wins it over for me. Perfection, pure perfection.
@wllychng21 Nope it goes 5/8 then 6/8 then in the verse it goes back to 5/8 then the chorus is 6/8 etc. etc. Stuff like that is incredible to me. Listen to Dream Theater (any song by them) and they do crap like that alllll the time. It's amazing.
@amorrroholic, take one course in writing or music appreciation, and see if you have the same opinion. The musical composition is amazing, and the lyrics are sheer poetry. Dustin Kensrue is a genius. Major/Minor is easily one of my favorite albums. It might be my favorite album, period. Now, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but there is also something called artistic value... and this album is chock full of it.
you made me bang my head. you made me smile. you made me cry. and at least you make me believe in real and honest music. fuck yeah. this one goes out to all the people who share this wonderful piece of music. no homo.
Amen! I'm glad that someone understands the meaning of this song! So many of Dustin's songs are misunderstood...but he sings straight from Scripture at times and very clearly about his faith in Jesus in many of them! I wish more people could understand this and worship Jesus as they listen to their music!
Thrice, you speak to me on so many levels. Your musicianship and lyrical content fills my consciousness with hope. I could never fully express what this band means to me.
@97Skj, my take is about what he says at the end, "I felt black and white reverse and a lifting of a curse in his heart. Like one whose given sight, I beheld a blinding light in the dark."
He also says lines about not having a reason to live, which I think this is a song about his salvation, or maybe just someone's. Just my opinion.
@97sjk The bible demands perfection, which we can't be. Someone actually came and removed the weight of those demands from Dustin and there you have it. Like StyvenHasPower said... it's basically the gospel. Dustin just presents it in a beautiful way time and time again.
I picture this song playing as the first sentient being beholds the end (or the beggining of the universe) and all its secrets are revealed to them. They see the big bang, they see the genesis and death of stars, they see the rise of the anamoly known as life, grow through evolution, they see human beings slowly build up their civilizations and they weep at the beauty and the overwhelming sense of completeness at finally understanding.
Dude you gotta take these leaks down... They're even releasing a track from each day from now on to the album comes out anyway, this basically just ruins the whole system they had worked out for the releasing of this album.. If you appreciate it, you should take them down
@cameronbob92 Its not really a leak. They released a vynl copy and people just ripped the vynl onto youtube. Everyone is still going to buy it cause the quality of this is crap.
oh i do very much like that guitar. i can't freakin wait till i see this album either sitting on the porch of my house or in the mailbox. that is gonna be a good time.
@JakeMachado And when I lost all hope to look, someone took that heavy book from my hands; all its weight they set aside, after they had satisfied its demands.
I felt white and black reverse, and the lifting of a curse from my heart.
Then like one receiving sight, I beheld a brilliant light in the dark.
Goosebumps!
