  • I love river but this is probably one of the gayest movies ive ever seeb

  • @143LOVEPINK143 you don't say...

  • The James Dean for my Generation

    RIP

  • My God, River Phoenix was so beautiful.

  • I watched this when I was about 14 years old. I loved it. I'm watching it now for the second time, and I am surprised at what good taste I had, this is an amazing movie!

  • this film is not that weird if your a young confused Gay Man.

Mainstream Hollywood romantic films seems weirder.

this is almost too close to reality!!

  • i love him, i can't believe he died.. Im going to name my first son after him :)

    "River William C______" :)

  • River looks so much like Leonrdo Decaprio

  • @FrerardBigFan correction, he looks waaaaaaay better than decaprio

  • @FrerardBigFan I agree. i love them 2 so much!

    R.I.P. River <3

  • Est-il possible d'avoir une version sous titrée française ?

  • Thumbs up if you watched "the barn drop", (5:14) more than once. lol

  • Rip river, you were one of the sexiest people on earth <333

  • "It strikes me as strange that anyone could have a moral objection to someone else's sexuality. It's like telling someone how to clean their house." River Phoenis

  • @twilightriverlove "You know that boil on my ass, well its now an inflamed, purple mass that has grown a mouth, and is fluent in Latin." Me

  • I swear, River makes narcolepsy look cool!

  • Thanks so much for the upload. It's a pretty hard movie to find anywhere else.

  • @cutpie11 I like how you spelled "Phoenix" wrong every time...

  • when you're on tape,you never die.you remain forever..

  • i think this picture shows you the feedback between your background, about chasing the unreachable dream which is a creation of your confused imagination. by that it yells 'fear not being what you are, as long as you remain yourself'. As for the Friends, i think Scott couldnt help Mike at any matter. Mikes world is to complicated to be shared with, he would bebeautifully tragic und miserable anyhow. Have a nice day keep your head queer

  • My bathtub seriously needs to be scrubbed right now. There's all this soap scum on the sides. Dang, why can't I hire Mike to clean MY stuff?

  • tried to be all legal and stream this with netflix but it's only available on dvd. don't really want to watch with my mom netflix, so FUCK YOU.

    youtube forever :D

  • I watch this movie like 100 times , still wathcing .

  • great movie. Gus Van Sant.....where can it go wrong???

  • Who da ho? I da ho.

  • today is April 4th! :D sorry the old man said that and i got excited O.o

  • This movie is incredible, I wonder how many more great movies River could've done if he were still with us...

  • river phoenix was such a great actor. such a shame he died young.

  • river phoenix really changed a lot since stand by me

he was so much hotter in stand by me

  • @PrettyLittleLiars31 what, when he was 12? wtf?

  • @plasticfelinerodent

um actually he was 16. but close enough!! and yah he was but that my opinion so stay out of it and mind your own business!!!

  • @PrettyLittleLiars31 umm actually whatever you present on the internet is open for me and any other person to comment on.

  • @plasticfelinerodent

well yah but you dont gotta be a bitch about it and say mean stuff.

  • @PrettyLittleLiars31 "Stand By Me" was filmed in the summer of 1985, so River was fourteen while he was filming it, not sixteen.

  • river looks a lot like ewan mcgregor when ewan was younger, shallow grave style, its mad

  • @tashthebitch

    I can see that.

  • What is that guitar music in the very beginning?

  • ~~> Just when you think you've seen it all... You stumble on this...

  • I WOULD HAVE DONE HIM FOR FREE!!!LOVE HIM!!!!!!!

  • @myriverphoenix1 He's a prostitute; I doubt he'd let you. He kinda needs that money to survive.

  • HOW DID HE DO THAT!? LIKE I SAID...JUST AMAZING!!!!!GOSHIES!!!!<3

  • Who is he talking to??....lol...but siriously...who??

  • @myriverphoenix1 Himself/the audiance.

  • @kaylawayla23 thanks...lol/// i found this movie hard to get thanks

  • Beautiful face, beautiful mind, beautiful sole...and Beautiful Performance

  • This film is just beautiful

  • I LOVE River and his performance in the movie is amazing. RIP River! <3 <3 <3 <3

  • ahhhhhhh shakespeare cool version of henry 4

  • River was a terrific actor, he wouldn't turn down the role just because the movie was a low-budget, and more he wanted to play that role badly - respect to both River and Keanu

  • river pheonix river pheonix river pheonix river pheonix river pheonix river pheonix river pheonix river pheonix river pheonix river pheonix river pheonix river pheonix river pheonix river pheonix river pheonix river pheonix river pheonix river pheonix river pheonix !!!! <3

  • River completely blew me away with his performance. He was truly incredibly gifted. His vulnerability as Mike is practically tangible

  • @arkhaili This is a good movie and I love it but it is rather painful isn't it?!!I'ts funny I can relate to both Mike's and Scott's characters I have been on both sides of the table. But you kind of feel sorry for Mike during the whole movie cause he is in love with Scott and Scott is just not interested. Then poor Mike just keeps passing out on top of that.I must say River played that part very well I was really feeling him I got my heart broke so many times it's aint even funny!!!!

  • i hate that scott left Mike alone in Rome!!! FUCK! what kind of a friend is he? to think that Mike has narcolepsy. :(

  • @arkhaili: That's why this movie is so painful. Scott breaks Mike's heart and the audience's heart as well. You love Scott throughout most of the movie. He carries Mike around and helps him but then he abandons Mike at the end. Scott's cold detachment is appealing at first, it's an attractive quality, until you realize what he's capable of. The characters are actually based on a Shakespeare play, "Henry IV". Parts of this movie are an adaptation of that play.

  • River and keanu as street hustlers woooooo baby it's just one big endless party!!Best movie ever!!!!!

  • this is a very fucked up movie...i love it :D

  • MOPI fans should read up on Henry IV. The movie follows the play pretty closely at times. Harry (Scott) is King Henry's son. Their relationship is strained as Harry hangs out in Taverns with vagrants and acts in a way unbefitting royalty. There's Falstaff, who is Harry's substitute father figure. He's old, fat and steals for a living. Harry and his friend Poin play a joke on Falstaff, steal from him during a robbery and then later make fun of him as he exaggerates the events of the story.

  • Haha, that guy is major creeps. So creepy that's it's rather funny.

    Thanks for uploading xx

  • Hmmm... a movie that starts out with River Phoenix getting a blow job.

I think I'm gonna like this one.

  • "Where do you think you're running man? We're stuck here together you sh**!"

  • LOL This is probably the funniest part of the movie. I love the guy who gets aroused by scrubbing noises and making things "immaculate" LOL LOL

  • he is my generation.

    forever

  • 07:11

    My God he's gorgeous.

  • It must be weird to live in Gus Van Sant's head...

  • "I was born in 1444" me: ok...fuck that, i'm outta here.

  • @CaliToughGuy DAMN YOU SURE ARE A TOUGH GUY, I DONT WANNA GET IN YOUR WAY!!

  • @CaliToughGuy thats the point of the movie-theyre prostitutes

  • I got so damn turned on watching River get blown and moaning lord have mercy it was so hot but then it showed who was pleasuring him and then i threw up LMAO

  • Think about it. If you were a fat, ugly old man, what other way would you get to suck off a beautiful thing like River Phoenix?

Of course he has to pay.

  • i love keaunu, is that how you spell his name lol

  • Aaaaand can I ask what the EFF is with that disgusting guy whose house he goes to that is dancing and saying creepy stuff about dutch boy harder....Oh MY GOSH what the heck get him away from River too!!!! EW EW EW!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • like a fucked up face

  • somebody know the song in the backround?thanks.

  • @superfrancesko Yeah It's Eddie Arnold's song Cattle Call, A great song to perform at the campfire!

  • @lmilay thanks :)

  • He can wreck my shed anyday.

  • horrible fing music

  • This film is profoundly authentic. The themes, the music, the visual, and the performances mesh together perfectly without a single false note. Watching it is like reading a great poem.

It's refreshing to be able to savor every frame of a film.

  • The title sequence is dangerously addictive. I can't stop watching it! The music, the visuals, and the overall ambiance of this sequence are pitch-perfect and reflect the film's overall thematic content.

  • @Silverwire100 I am addicted to the opening sequence also!

  • Along with Drugstore Cowboy, My Own Private Idaho represents the pinnacle of Gus Van Sant's career. Both films are rebellious masterpieces that demand and reward repeat viewings. Rarer still for contemporary cinematic standards, they are lyrical and hauntingly poetic.

Van Sant has never made another great, let alone good, film since My Own Private Idaho. His signature humour, pathos, and visual style are gone with the wind. For shame.

  • my favorite gus van sant film (so far)

  • PFFT! WTF is up the old man at the end, lmao. ew but that shit was funny

  • you know your math.

    lolz

  • @KidsFromTheNorth Yes that's the best response to that.

  • I do that peek hole with my eyes too haha <3

  • River was such a handsome young man with so much talent, it brakes my heart that he died at such a young age. Lol Rivers so good looking he makes me wish I'm not a lesbian.

  • rivers face looks different in every film.

  • When River Phoenix had his head tilted back and was getting blowed, I thought this movie starting out pretty decent. Next thing ya know and someone is throwing money on his lap. I thought WTF?? When they showed the guy I was like alrighty than.

  • I love 2 suck River Phoenix Dick :P I miss him so much I love u River xxxx

  • 3:38

I'd pay 1.000 bucks just to touch that hair..

    too sad he died.

  • @SHearnshaaw It wasn't sad that he died the guy was a selfish bastard that overdosed in someone elses club amongst his own family and friends, he was a selfish greedy ego maniac that threw his toys out of the pram because he wasn't allowed to play on stage. feel sad for the people that were there and had to clear up his mess as he couldn't give a fuck. Nothing worse than being the poor sods that question for the rest of their lives what if I had done this or that, No sympathy whatsoever!

  • @newworldodour I agree that his death was his own fault and that to take an overdose was just WRONG from every aspect, bt you shouldn't criticize him like that... Maybe the cause of the whole tragedy was much deeper. No one really knows for sure. Maybe if you were in his shoes and were so sensitive and faced the problems he faced, you would do the same.. It's ok to say that you dont feel any sympathy for him, bt you cant call him selfish and greedy and etc, how on earth do you know???

  • @mariiinjohnnyjohnny I know he was selfish and greedy because they were the actions of a selfish greedy person, selfish not to think of the consequences of his actions on others and greedy because he took 8 times a lethal dose! If that's not greed i don't know what is???

  • @newworldodour All I'm saying is that you shouldn't judge so easily and superficially. I mean, you don't know all the facts, neither do I. The guy obviously had some serious issues. I'm not trying to justify him, and maybe he was selfish and everything, bt I have no right to judge him. Who knows what you or I would have done if we were in his shoes and couldn't think clearly?? You can judge his actions, not him.

  • @newworldodour As a child that was homeschooled and never really socialized, I had a lot of empathy for him. The world is a cruel place, when can see that by the comment that you made. He use drugs to cope, and how was he selfish? He was supporting his entire family since he was a child. So pretty much what I have to say to you, you selfish bastard is, eat my f*ck.

  • OMG! his voice is soooooooo damin HOT @_@

  • I can't belive someone can be so beautiful! That doesn't make any sense. It isn't even possible!

    R.I.P River

  • ohhhhhhhhh my gosh!

i think im going to cry....i love LOVE this movie and River Phoenix as well....he is one of my all time favorite actors next to Jack Wild and Johnny Depp.

    R.I.P. babe!!!!

  • It's so shitty when people die i swear! R.I.P. River Phoenix (notice I put dots after the letters for I do not wish it rip River Phoenix).

  • I almost feel as if I'm watching a David Lynch film. Is Van Sant a disciple of his? This is some creepy shit.

  • river phoenix gay. that is so hot. :|

  • I was only like two when he died and I think he's just the greatest young actor ever. It's bittersweet that Joaquin became such a fine actor as well.

  • it was such a shame he died so young, as with so many it was too soon....

  • любимый фильм. благодаря ему я открыла для себя Ривера Феникса.

нужно выучить английский, чтоб смотреть его в оригинале )

  • i love river phoenix so much in the past two days i've watched running on empty 3 times and stand by me twice (those are my two favorite river movies b.c he was still so purre and innocent then) i also watched a night in the life of jimmy reardon which was good and dogfight which was excellent i miss him and watching his movies is the only way for me to keep his memory alive i love you river forever&&&always your truly missed.

  • faster little dutch boy! harder !

  • wtf. dutch boy..

  • @@@ boy18inva : No River's parents were not weird at all. The whole family was vegan (which is great) and were all about animal rights, peace, and love. A really beautiful family. River would have been one of the biggest celebs if he was alive today, whatever drugs do lots to you though .

Anyways good film! Not my all time fav by him though, but still great movie.

    RIP River :(

  • The old man dancing was very bizzare, like something haunting you only see in dreams...

  • wow brownson1970! that is incredible!! i can't believe it. i would of loved to speak with him. he was a beautiful person

  • yeh just a normal kid,we were both kids!!

i only regret that a wee while later i should have gone up to fleas house with the rhcps tour manager (who was with us while they were making bssm) to hang as river was living there at the time and hang a bit more,

yeh he was a real nice lad,we were both a bit oiled but a very pure lad,too pure for the scene he was in by far,

somebody as usual should have put the strong hand on the arm,but hey!!

how many times has that been the case eh?

    such a shame..

  • that's a bunch of Bull. U never knew River Phoenix so don't even lie

  • he was a good vibe and into his music too

flea seemed to be lookin out for him

    r.i.p dude

  • aww flea was looking out for him? that sounds so sweet. You are so lucky! was he nice?

  • Comment removed

  • he was a truly great actor

    not because hes passed

i thought he was great watching him when he was alive

i got to meet him when he was hanging on the lollapalooza tour in 90s with the red hot chilli peppers

he was happyish and a bit wasted but we are the same age and had a laugh and a conversation about the smiths and other bands while sitting under a table!

prob to get away from people wanting to stir him up etc as my own private idaho was not long released

he had come off a press tour

  • brilliant film!

  • Hell naw... LOL

  • AN 80...

  • you can always tell where you are by the way the road looks, like i just know that i been to this place before.i just know that i been stuck here like this one fucking time before, you know that?...

    and bla bla bla....fuck it!!!

i got a 80 in drama class because of that

  • Didn't River have some rather strange parents? I heard they were kind of like hippies but also rather cynical and exploitive of River's fame.

  • @boy18inva Nobody can say they really know that

  • river <3 such a beautiful and talented guy. i wish we had more iconic actors like him to look up to in today's media. This is an amazing, quirky film =]

  • what's this movie all about?

  • c'mon, so good looking, soooooooooooo good looking :)

  • Think its Cattle Call by Eddy Arnold..

  • id blow river for free!

  • that part was pretty sexy...except for when the guy who blew river appears on screen

  • @dropdeadlameass Doesn't fucking make sense River got paid for letting someone suck his cock he didn't pay them u fuckin dope!

  • amazing film......still remember watching it for the first time some 12 years ago and staying in awe for a week after

  • Ravissant

  • damn River I miss you. You were the James Dean of my generation.

  • @Zorsha lol get a life pussy mother fucker

  • @Zorsha

    Agreed.

River Phoenix is sensational in My Own Private Idaho. He's got that great blend of brooding intensity and emotional vulnerability. Had Phoenix lived past the age of 23 (!), he would have been THE premiere actor of his generation, surpassing the likes of Johnny Depp and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Phoenix was a dedicated actor who took his art seriously. How refreshing!

  • @Silverwire100 yea shame he didnt take his life seriously - maybe then he wouldn't of taken drugs an died on the street like some washed out junkie!

good actor - maybe, an idol - absolutely not!!

  • @Silverwire100 awwww how did he die, so tragic

  • @Zorsha Had he lived, he certainly would have gone on to win an Oscar.

  • he has the best eyes ever!
