So regular ids with only printed information is more secure than the RFID chip. In truth using RFID chips have nothing to do with making it impossible to copy an id, and in fact you can buy empty rfid chips online so you can write information to them. It has more to do with keeping a closer eye on you the citizen.

You can have an ID with the RFID chip in your pocket safe and secure and I can scan for the chip connect to it, query it for the information and have that Information with a custom antenna that can pick up an RFID chip from a few feet away. However in this situation if you had a regular id the only way I could obtain your information was if I contronted you or stole your wallet.

You are mentioning the Real ID, here. There have been states that did away with the real id act. If need be I will license myself in those states. Anyway the point is in May of 08' it goes into effect in most states. The national id card will just be your divers license. The difference is it will have an RFID chip in it.
