@leverenz19 Yes, I apologize for making you watch this. My charisma has been known to do that. I cannot help it, I just love to teach, and sometimes people cannot tear their eyes and ears away.
Just so we're on the same page.....are you saying that you're _not_ interested in buying the full lesson, because it sounds like you might be, if it were free, which it is not.
I was dying to figure out Hendrix's chords! I saw the video! YES! It's a dream come true! I can finally learn them! Got my guitar. I'm ready to go! .....Then I heard 2:23. I then looked down at my Floyd Rose......... DAMN IT!
gr8?? are you in Phx Az?? Id like to get some lessons if you are?? Im a picker whos stuck in the middle of intermediate, and bored of playing blues in the box? let me know plz bigdognkat@msn.com
@gr8bluesgtr Thank you! I'lll check out your website when I get home from work. Your lesson teasers seem really cool, and you seem like you have the goods. I'll check it out later tonight. What does a membership or whatever on your site cost? To get access to the full lessons?
This is why I always give up trying to learn from lessons and just go with my ear. Stevie: I'm a left handed player and I play factory left handed guitars. I've been playing that way for twenty years and I'll cut the head of anyone who has anything smart to say about it. If you would just be so kind as to tell me which string in the chord diagrams is the high e, so I have some kind of reference point and I can read the diagrams, maybe I could actually learn something from your lessons.
the best thing you can do is use little to know distortion/overdrive/gain, use REALLY thick strings ( im talking 12-60 gauge) and turn the bass and midtone up on the amp while turning the treble down. thats what ive always done, but you should also change it enough so its original to you. =)
hey gr8 im trying the riff at exactly 0:17 and it looks like your doing the hammer on on fret 13, but it sounds right on my guitar at fret 12 and yes i am tuned down and intonated correctly..can you give me the secret to that riff?
Ah.. I see now... I am hammering on at the 12th fret, but I'm using my middle finger. The video makes it look like I'm using my ring finger on the 13th fret, but it's actually my middle finger at the 12th fret that's making contact.
Thanks for the great lesson. After following your lesson I recorded a version and posted it as a video response. This was really helpful!!! Rgds from Norway
What pickups do you have on that strat? I have 2 strat plus guitars with the lace sensors on it but that sound comes nowhere close to that sound you've got there even on the rhythm pup. I tried out a 62 strat reissue in Guitar Center and it was the best sounding Fender I ever played. Now I either spend 1900 on that or just replace the pups in one of my strats, it's the same guitar seems silly to pay so much just for the pick ups. Thx.
In this video I'm using a mexican strat with Rocketfire Guitars pickups in it. Any high-end pickup like Fralins/Lollars/Rocketfire's and others will make your strat sound like a completely different guitar.
valdezzzzzz If you are really into Jimi's style of playing then you'll learn much more if you tune down a half step, and whenever you would like it back to normal tuning just put a capo on the first fret. There's nothing bad about using a capo, and especially when needing to switch like this back to normal tuning. It's the sound that matters not what you use.
This guitar is kind of hacked together, it was originally a '96 super strat or something with a humbucker in it, and now it has 3 single coil Rocketfire guitars pickups in it, so the pickguard is not the original.
I respectfully disagree. Unless your ring finger is occupied, I believe that it is a more natural choice for hammer on chords where the hammer on happens 2 frets above what's being held down. For playing licks where you need to hammer on 3 frets up, the pinky is very useful. That's not saying it can't be done, but if you've got bigger sized hands, it's not a very natural movement to cram your pinky in to hammer on 2 frets up from the notes being barred.
Yes mate, i see what you mean. Though, Jimi had monstrous hands (check his thumb out), and he used the pinky finger. But i think it was because he mainly strummed the whole rythm chord while playing the leads. But when listening to your playing without looking at the video, you can't really hear the difference between you and Hendrix (except guitar tone). So soundwise there isn't any difference, and thats what its all about, the soul, the sound, the music.
These lessons are really really cool. Never payed for one yet (i already take guitar lessons that's why, and they are expensive but i watch the previews often)...if you really can't afford them i would suggest justinguitar who provides lessons (different) for free (you pay for quality though)

retsknil 2 years ago
does it have to be tuned a step down...does it make a big difference if it isn't
valdezzzzzz 2 years ago
its because stevie ray used size 13 strings you tune them differently, it does make it sound better if you use size 9 strings.
lespaulloon 2 years ago
No it doesn't, the intervals will stay the same and you really shouldn't hear a difference. Love and Peace.

not huge, but tuning down (if i'm not mistaken) gives you a thicker, warmer tone on the guitar, particularly when playing lead..
