  • I remember staying up staying up to all hours watching this game, McGrath's spell was one of the best of all time sensational bowling!

  • OOOOOOOOOOO FLINTOFF GONE TOO

  • Australia would have won this Ashes series if Mcgrath didn't get injured

  • ah well, we still won the series :D

  • Fukn legend

  • *Statistically* McGrath is the best fast bowler of all time. But u can't compare McGrath to the likes of Ambrose or even Lillee. They bowl differently. McGrath wouldn't really attack the batsmen. He bowled a consistent line & length all day. Gilchrist even said he might swing the first & second ball in his first over of the day, the rest gun barrel straight on good line & length. Every bowler bowls differently. It's hard to compare, because they also played in different generations each other.

  • bowlers of 80's of west indies had a better bowling record than mcgrath or donald .lilles test record is quite better than mcgrath with the average of 6.4 wickets per match.

  • this man has it all. Tremendous talent, money, good looks, a beautiful wife...

  • Glenn McGrath is a fucking horrible bastard.

  • absolute legend. im a black caps fan but batsman around the world breathed a sigh of relief when he retired. absolutely mesmerising

  • What a LEGEND!!!

  • best spell i have ever seen

  • best bowler i have seen and the best spell i have ever seen, he was simply unplayable that day. i say this as an england fan.

  • glenn mcgrath alone would make the current pom side tremble, i doubt you would see hundreds and 200s at a regular rate if he was still around

  • If i had to choose a modern day all time 11, I would choose McGrath at 11 first (over Sachin, Lara, Ponting, Warne, Murali, Sehwag, Pietersen, Akram, Ambrose ANYONE). My reasoning for this is his amazing consistency on any wicket against any opposition. Talk about pitching it on a dime and in the corridor outside the offstump. Truly a modern day great and a fantastic person to have in your team

  • Is there video were Glenn McGrath mimics the "underarm 81" to Kyle Mills which prompted New Zealand umpire Billy Bowden to produce a mock red card?

  • Quite simply the best bowling spell I have ever seen during an Ashes series.

  • Absolute legend.

  • That Australian side from, say, 1994 to 2004 was just something else, with some phenomeal talent - the Waugh twins, Ponting, Gilchrist, Warne, Langer, Hayden, Taylor, Gillespie etc...But none of them were as important to them as McGrath. When he was missing, they just didn't look the same. To my mind, he was their most vital player and biggest weapon. I've never seen another bowler with such a nack to take big wickets at big moments. Wonderful, wonderful bowler.

  • Greatest fast bowler in history - that's coming from me - an anglo/indian.

  • People think it's just about bowling wicket-to-wicket. But it was more than just line and length -- his ability to extract bounce from a length was actually his weapon more than anything else. It put a doubt in the batsman's mind, so that when a delivery kept low (like Michael Vaughan's), the batsman wouldn't be ready for it.

  • what a bowler... only bowler who rattled sachin... cricket lost a great player,,

  • True legend of the game. The great thing about McGrath is that he always put his money where his mouth was, and most of the time backed up his words with deeds. Very affable chap off the field too - hats off from an Englishman.

  • haven't Australia been beating England since time began? both in sport and physically? I guess that explains why their inhabitants were deported....forget the ashes it's all about India v Pakistan....two giants...more than a billion and a half viewers and supporters...

  • Future bowlers must learn from this... great wicket to wicket bowler

  • I'm an England fan. I remember this vividly. We never stood a chance against him that afternoon. He was effectively bowling 80 odd mile an hour off spinners with the odd one keeping low to boot. I know you guys loved Shane Warne and with good reason. McGrath was the one who gave me nightmares though.

  • Marcus Trescothick, Andrew Strauss, Michael Vaughan, Ian Bell and Andy Flintoff dislike this video

  • @mach150591 its andrew flintoff ahchjsgdhgdhghjsdg

  • Fuck I could watch Flintoff's reaction all day 2:50

  • Even as an Englishman I love watching this. I admit at the time it was hell but whether it's your team or not, you have to admire genius when it's on display. The body language of our batsmen on all five wickets shows that even they can't believe what they have just seen.

  • @playl1fe well said

  • ahh listen to those stumps crashing, quality stuff.

  • australia lost the ashes to that kasprowicz caught behind, which in fact wasn't out, that was the difference.....regardless of mcgrath being injured, one of the heroes of ashes 2005 has to brett lee, how he batted and faced english bowling in tough conditions, showed real guts....lee and warne almost single handedly won the ashes but unfortunately mcgrath was required too

  • @nabeelm82 you could point to a number of things as to why australia lost those ashes, but the fact is that england outplayed them from the second test to the fifth test. Now youve been destroyed on your own turf. BARMY ARMY!!! BARMY ARMY!!!

  • @doza2112 lol I am not even Australian dude, so chill..I know England outplayed them, but there were moments when England could have lost too...remember that chase by ashley giles and jones, even though it was a small chase, they struggled, yes in the end credit goes to england who restricted australia but it wasn't easy..it could have made a difference if mcgrath hadn't got injured or that kasprowicz caught behind or maybe england might have thrashed mcgrath in the 2nd test

  • @nabeelm82 I think England would have got annihilated if McGrath was around. I reckon you're right, England were bloody lucky. And everyone saw what happened two years later when they had a full strength side. This ashes was a joke, Australia had a second rate team. I did miss the days of Hayden and Langer at the top, Steve Waugh and Gilchrist down the order, then Warne and McGrath who destroyed batting orders.

  • @stubberz Ahh those were the golden days of cricket too, I used to wake up late at night just to watch the first few overs of Boxing day test match, Glenn McGrath bowling, thousands cheering at MCG.......England lost the test series against Pakistan right after ashes, which was a shock too considering their strength...most people would argue that Simon Jones didn't play in that series, and I would say to them that it is no more different than McGrath getting injured in the 2nd test

  • the 5 wicket ball raising thing is utter shit

  • Such a great bowler, perfect line and length all day.

  • goosebumps, that footage brought them on!

  • Completely agree suned05, Mark Nicolas is a fantastic commentator and wasted down in Ausland on Channel 9.

That McGrath dismissal of Flintoff gets me every time with his line: "Awwwwww Flintoff Gone Too!!"

  • captaincy was easy for Ricky back then...as long as McGrath was in the team

  • gr8 quality

  • This guy proved that pace isn't everything!!!

Intelligence, accuracy, and movement will always take wickets.

  • The policy used to be 'If mcgrath doesnt get them, warne will' - now its 'When Siddle doesn't get them, Hauritz gets plastered'

  • Im glad i got to see this era of auzzie cricket growing up,we were so lucky.....

  • Go Pidge!!! The Legend.

  • @akashsujato McGrath is not a swing bowler he's line and length bowler!!

Wasim, McGrath, waqar, warne! Dream bowling attack!!!!

  • McGrath is an absolute legend. Brilliant bowler. Super stuff.

  • As for the best ever Aussie paceman, I think most of the ex-cricketers who saw Lillee play will pick him as the best. McGrath would come a close second.

  • McGrath is the man. Much better than Akram on any given day. Despite playing 20 Test matches more than Akram, he maintained an average of 21.64 at an SR of 51.9. Compare that to Akram's average of 23.62 at an SR of 54.6

  • Second best 1st Shane Warne

  • @afridi10 can you please tell me where you got the Ashes DVD 2005 from I have never seen it all of it only some bits

  • he's so good

  • i have the dvd packege of ashes 2005. simply awsome and brilliant ashes dvd eva..

  • I still wanna see his 61 lol

  • Fuckinh lasy Freddy Flitnoff!!! He is a good player but sometimes hes a lasy fucker :D

  • Mcgrath was a superb bowler.......

However, I would still rate Wasim Akram ahead of him.......

  • He was the GOD of swing bowling.

  • @akashsujato Mcgrath is not a swing bowler.....

  • Without any Doubt ..The best bowler of all time..A true Legend...

  • he was unlucky not to have jones in that spell aswell. Another one that nipped back and missed the off stump by a bees dick

  • mcgrath is a friken LEGEND!! i love him!! my fav paceman always and forever

  • look at flintoff's face. he looked bemused

  • @naughtytoliet comprehensively beaten

  • Line & Strength!

  • McGrath is the best wicket to wicket bowler ever. No doubt about it. Such a treat to have seen him play.

  • @TheUniverseable

Agree mate. I'm a POM, and he was the greatest end-to-end. Slats said it all here, there was no better man than McGrath with the new cherry. Losing his wife like he did was a blow for him. God, I felt for the man.

  • @TheUniverseable disagree...there are many many other bowlers who are better/equal

  • @mrbombazticful ...almost equal maybe. better - no. he was the best of the best.

  • @TheUniverseable He IS THE BEST "BOWLER" ever!

  • @TheUniverseable

    ambrose

  • if only he didn't get injured in the warm up before the second test... history might have gone a different direction (inculding 2009)

  • @munkeymobile And if Warne hadn't stepped on his wicket, they wouldn't have lost by two runs in the other test. Furthermore Kaspo wasn't out anyways

  • @stubberz yes kaspo was'nt out dat was cheating

  • @munkeymobile Yeah we would have beaten that english side full of spuds

  • the best seam bowler ive ever seen and thats coming from an english man.

  • mate, wasim akram's the best bowler ever produced by the game cricket, if you compare him with wasim he's no where as good or even close

  • no way in hell. wasim was amazing granted but mcgrath did not get over 600 wickets by bowling badly. wasim was all speed and no aim. Mcgrath for life

  • hu said waseem was all about speed. go on nd watch hiz swinging deliveries. waseem was a medium fast bowler and macgrath is fast.

  • Best ever? Not including Dennis Lillee, Malcolm Marshall or S F Barnes? Joke.

  • Wasim akram was a great bowler, but mcgrath beats him for me. As Wasim has the ball tampering / match fixing hanging over his head to this day..

  • really good quality video :D

  • He is also a man who has shown great dignity ..a fine man,,,scored a 50 too:)

  • IMHO McGrath is the greatest pacer, if not the greatest bowler, ever to have played the game. His unwavering consistency and ability to adapt to any type of pitch give him the edge over some of his other illustrious peers. It is a shame that a section of the commentators tried to pass him off as an impeccable line and length bowler, when he was probably second best only to Wasim Akram when it comes to moving the bowl, albeit seaming it in contrast to the latter's swing. Btw, I am Indian.

  • i agree wasim was the greatest ever bowler... and waqar

  • can v expect to find another mcgrath ever??? i highly doubt

  • why cant you all respect each others teams instead of argueing all the time. it's childish

  • oh man i wish shane warne, glenn mgrath, and adam gilchrist were in the australian team they were probably the best players in the world but we still have lots of other great players

  • im born and bred british my parents came from asia but gotta say aussies ra emiles better then england

  • As an England supporter watching this all I can say is God Bless whomever left that stray cricket ball around that McGrath trod upon before the second test or else 2005 would have been much different.

  • 2 series in 22 yrs, 5-0, whos shit??

  • shit cunt pommys lol hahaha who won that series? England! Who just won the latest series? England! Haha you stupid ozzie wanker. Australia are shit!

  • Man us aussies kick arse, especially when we play the shit cunt pommys, glenn mcgrath is the man

  • That last delivery to flintoff was just sick. No chance there.

  • as an england fan I can say that spell had me almost in tears. absolutely devastating.

  • One of the all time great Ashes spells.

  • Glenn McGrath IS GOD

  • Genius!

  • in my opinion G.D McGrath is the finest bowler of all time,ok he's not the leading wicket taker but you must remember that he was always bowling at the worlds best batsmen and with a new ball.he was metronomic with his accuracy,i'm english and he hurt us many many times but i must admit he was a pleasure to watch

  • How many bowlers have had the ability to target opposition's best batsman before the series and actually rip him off during the series-be it Tendulkar,Lara or Atherton-Truly a genius

  • you don't know what you got until its gone

  • ah we knew all along mcgrath was something special we just appreciated more when he was gone

  • fucking amazing

    killing the poms

  • one of the best spells of bowling in test cricket history!

  • mcgrath is a boy

  • why cant fast bowlers these days bowl like this?

  • what a player he was !

can someone tell me how fast he bowled ? Was he classed as fast or just 'fast-medium' ?

  • on average it would have been in the 130's but could get some heat on it when he wanted

  • yeh i think he would be classed as RFM

  • Glen Mcgrath normally bowls the ball at 77 to 79 mph with huge swing, if he thinks he needs more pace then his maximum is up to 83 to 85mph and yes Mcgrath is a fast medium bowler..

  • mcgrath wasnt a big swinger

  • he was all about line and length thats why he is such a good bowler

  • yeah i know , some bloke was saying he gets massive swing

  • he was a fast medium...

bowled average 130 km.. and could hit 140 max

  • Almost every one of McGraths wickets was the offcutter

  • It was the slope...You think an Off-Cutter can come back that far?

  • Great video. McGrath was simply awesome in his hey-day. The four at the end from Jones was a nice comical touch. 5 stars.

  • I'm English but the moment when McGrath gets his five-for by bowling Flintoff and Mark Nicholas comments "aww Flintoff gone too", that just sends chills up my spine. It's a great cricketer at his very, very best.

  • the best 1day fast bowler is Wasim Akram but the best reverse swing bowler was Waqar,Bradman is the best all time batsman then Tendulkar,Lara and Viv Richard,Murli is the best off spin and then Sqlain Mushtaq,Warne is best legbreak ever, some players r even more talented but sometimes luck does'nt favour them so their records never reflect their talent..i have never seen a captain like Steve waugh and Imran khan...

  • Haha a wrist spinner is a Leg spinner- so murilithian is the greastest leg spinner of all time when Shane Warne already is? I think you mean finger spinner.......

  • Murali's a special case though, and is most definitely a wrist spinner. If you watch him bowl, he generates most of the spin from his super flexible wrist.

  • mcgrath one of the greats

  • shame only a minority of people own the sky sports package, so all the passion from the english fans watching at home will be lost.

we have a fair chance though. especially after that windies win.

  • Greatest Allround Player = Imran Khan

Greatest Seam bowler = Glen McGrath

Greatest Left Arm fast bowler = a)Wasim Akram b) Waqar Younis

Greatest leg spinner = Shane Warne

    Greatest Wrist spinner = Muralitharan

Greatest batsman of all time = Sachin Tendulkar

Greatest Pakistani opener = Saed Anwar

Fastest Bowler ever = Shoiab Akhtar

    Greatest wicketkeeper/batsman = A. Gilchrist

    Greatest fielder = Johnty Rhodes

  • umm... cricket existed before the 90s

    waqars a right armer

and bradman? pollock? hobbs? richards? sobers? names ring a bell?

  • waqar bowled wit the right arm dude....but a good list ( a bit subjective though)

  • Lara carried the west indies and hardly ever stooped in form he was consistent for 15 years or more

  • greatest batsman - bradman.

if you want to say greatest odi batsmen = tendulkar - then that's better - although good old viv wasn't that far away.

The rest look about right - except I would put Murali as the greatest off spinner cuz IMO Warne is the best wrist spinner as well.

BTW Waqar is right arm fast.

  • Only one I agree on us Adam Gilchrist.

  • Errrr. Sir Donald Bradman doesn't make your list?

You having a laugh? This list looks more like the best players from Asia in the last 25 years rather than an all-time greatest list.

  • I like your list. But i think Sobers is clearly the greatest ever all rounder, Murali is a chucker and i reckon Thommo was consistently quicker than Shoaib.

  • Allrounder: Sobers, Imran #2

    Seam Bowler: Lillee

Best batsman is clearly Bradman, Tendulkar 2nd

Also i reckon the best traditional off-spinner is Jim Laker. Murali's an off-spinner who uses his wrist, so sort-of in a class of his own..

Just about Mcgrath's greatest ever spell btw

  • Your opinions are very questionable. Have u never heard of Sir Donald Bradman? THE greatest batsman of all time who averaged just below 100. Ian Botham was a better all-rounder than Khan as he had better stats and single handedly won England the ashes in 1981 hence Botham's Ashes.,

Waqar Younis was a right handed bowler lol. Shane Warne is the greatest wrist and leg spinner of all time. Otherwise you are correct with the greatest seam bowler and keeper of all time.

  • Ian Botham wasnt statistically better than Imran Khan. Imran Khan averaged 38 in Tests, 33 in ODIs for batting. He averaged 23 in bowling at tests and 27 in ODIs. Botham averaged 33 an 23 in batting for both ODIs and Tests, and 28 and 28 for bowling. Statistically , Imran was the better batsman and the better bowler. Heroics is a different matter. Imran Khan led Pakistan - a weakened side single-handedly to win theWorld Cup - beating Botham n England - I think thats far better than Ashes.

  • However, regardless of what stats show and hide - I would agree that early on, Botham was the better batsman whilst Imran only got better - Botham has more hundreds in Tests etc. But as a bowler , Imran was a class of his own , one of the very first exponents of Reverse swing - he was the better bowler. Botham was heroic, but I would say it was over-played by the English Media and you know what I mean by that. Imran, aged in his twilight, beat England (w Botham) 2 win the WC.

  • Buddy Waqar Younis was right handed!!!

  • What this doesn't show was how many times he beat the bat in this spell. Bowled out a whole session and was almost untouchable. One of my greatest cricketing memories.

  • flintoff dismissal is one of THE best balls i have ever seen

  • trualy amazing bowling.... cant wait for ashes 09'

  • amazing

  • LOL

theres so many wickets in a short space of time Mark Nicholas has to make up rndom things to say

    like Hes So So Good!!

    over and over:)

i think sky should get him to comantate - i miss him!

  • Agreed, the sky sports commentry is nothing compared to the ashes commentry team

  • One of the best sessions of cricket i've seen. The hair on the back of my neck stands when I watch this. Inspiring!!

  • it was soooooooooo good watching the likes of mcgrath, warne, langer, hayden and gilly era, such a great team and mcgraths consistency was second to none, best medium paced bowler eva, brilliant

  • You have to watch these!

    Search "Tom0693"

    Nice Vid BTW

  • that last ball just wanted to hit the stumps

  • Mr Flintoff...When you turn round and one of the stumps is at eye level , and the bails are above your head , Start walking..

  • saw mcgrath play for my county worcestershire, best bowler ive ever seen play

  • I think that glenn mcgrath has the perfect bowling action

  • Yeo, good point , very economical, simple, great seam position as well which is why he is so accurate and seams the ball so much!!!!!! i would say the best seamer of all time!!!!!

  • given the game situation, this may well have been mcgrath's greatest spell ever!

  • How can i Download this Video ?

  • Download one of these video downloader programmes.

Personally I use firefox and just have an add on which does the same thing.

    Hope that helps

  • use a media converter

just type in media converter into google

  • What a spell! No better bowler at Lords than the mighty Pigeon.

  • if you all hate white ppl, first of all y r u all living there in white countries, then y are you bastards using their technology....

  • one of the ebst bowlers ever. i love pigeon true aussie

  • wen he bowls vaughan that's the best - go Glen ashame abt his wife

  • glenn mcgrath is so so good

    what is wrong with you

  • you seriously need a life

  • r u fuckin gay or r u a ghirl

  • lawl, will never forget this

  • I model my own technique on mcgrath and ive bagged loads of wickets cheers glenn!

  • how did u get this video???

i wanna put it on my ipod!! heaps sikko mate

  • Wonderful bowling, what a team the aussies had then.

  • wtf wos flintoff doin lol

  • he didnt move his feet, and the ball kept low as well, which resulted in him being completely screwed.

  • This is as good as it gets!

  • wtf?? Michael Vaughn's dismissal, no foot movement all and he looked like a number 11 playing that....he stands like a girl at the crese

  • shit 5 wickets englands 5 best batsmen gone

  • shit ? how wos it shit , line and length ok bad shots fair enuf but the line n length wos perfect

    learn about cricket

  • wtf r u retarded i neva sed it was shit i sed shit as if i couldnt believe retard

  • sorry i know i over reacted with my 1st reply

  • i always thought he was a better bowler to left handers he could always just get that alll important edge on left handers

  • No qualms in claiming that this is the best exhibition of seam bowling I've ever seen.

He made use of the Lord's slope brilliantly and some of his off-cutters were too good to keep out. Even though it was more than 3 years ago, I remember every match o
