He forgot to mention that if one of those RAID drives takes a permanent dump on you, you need to have a 3rd IDENTICAL drive handy to use as a replacement.
omg...im watching this cause i wanna turn my compaq evo into one.. YOUR USING A COMPAQ EVO lol those things are TANKS man when my main pc goes down, its my main backup
the title of this video is how to build a raid SERVER!!! not slap in 2 extra hard drives and a raid card in a old pc... you forgot to tell people all about windows server and linux... *sigh*
@bmw2go11 but this technically is a raid server.. you don't need server or linux to run a server. im running xp with just standard HDD's over the network and i get my internet from it. technically it is a server and its some old hard drives in an old PC..just some brain food for yea
Thanks for the video, should be useful for those in need of secure data backup. Not always too cheap (buying two drives) but does the job.
I'd like to just point one thing out though: when working on the inside of a PC, I've always though it best to leave the power lead plugged IN, but switched OFF at the wall. This earths the chassis and components to effectively eliminate static discharge (which can kill components). Not sure if this applies in US, but in UK this is ideal.
hey rere its called NAS or Network Attached Storage.. no such thing as a RAID server
