Not sure if you are up on how things work but, all those Goodwill places people so conveniantly toss thier stuff to, they crush and landfill 80% of what they get. This is what our org does, we evaluate waste from thrift orgs amonst others and when we began a toy recycling program to stop this, we became overwelmed with them too!

Went to tip kids went with me .One of the skips had got kids teddies ,toys ,dolls and rideons in it . The operatives were making space in the skip by using a digger bucket to crush and pull it to the front of the skip and then crush it again , My kids were sad to see all the toys destroyed like this

The packer and the crusher panel are both controlled with buttons,the lever is for the cart dumper.The packer cycles is set to cycle 8 times for every button push, and there is an up and down button for the crusher panel.

That was the throttle advance kicking on (we call it the "speed up") because I bumped the handle for the cart dumper by accident.This truck has throttle advance for the cart dumper as well as the packer,unlike the older trucks.

Jeez, I hope nobody uses groundwater from near the landfill where this stuff is headed. The electronic waste is bad enough but the microwave oven is really contaminating. Microwaves all have a part in their high voltage systems called a HV capaciter that contains a liquid form of PCB. This is really nasty stuff. No hazardous waste facililties available in your area?

My recycle man Carlos just got a new truck since his company decided to scrap his old one He now drives a Mcnelius MSL that's barely a year old. I got a tour of it and the crushing panel has a sweeping action that works excellently on crushing big boxes and stuff like that.

Around here people ussually want those bins thrown away.I take them when asked,or when they are obviously in poor shape.If they are in good condition or I doubt they want them taken,I leave them.

You just mentioned one of my biggest gripes about this truck,that godforsaken 16 inch gap between the packer and fully lowered pre-crusher, which allows cardboard,tree branches,flat objects etc, to ride on top of the blade.

My biggest gripe is the narrow width of the hopper,the blade stroke being shorter than the previous generation.The hopper is nice and deep,which is good,but when you start to cram it with a bunch of cardboard and plastic and other memory materials that expand back into the hopper,you are left with a reduced amount of space to work with,requiring a bit more effort and skill than otherwise would be needed.

These shortcomings can be frustrating at times dealing with the type of waste stream we have around here.That is another reason why more recycling and a yard waste/appliance ban would be nice.I could fly through my routes if trash ran like it does there in California!

Actually you know what I just discovered?All that stuff has been reccomended by the solid waste management commitee of sedgwick county (where I live) back in January 04.Yard waste,C&D,Appliance ban from MSW facilities as well as pay as you throw volume based trash rates and mandatory recycling had all been approved.They keep pushing back the date of implementation.City government red tape?Im not sure...
