@theleg222 i dont think it trains the finger strength, i've played guitar hero a few times at a friends house and the buttons are easy to hit.. if you try doing the bar chords if youre a beginner at guitar, that will help you train finger strength, thats for sure

Rockband and Guitar Hero have inspired me to pick up a real guitar. So it's not anything bad. I've now been playing guitar for 3 years and I still even play Guitar Hero and Rockband today. It has increased my finger control, picking technique, and especially my picking speed. When I was playing acoustic, I couldn't speed pick for SHIT. Then I discovered Guitar Hero. Now I'm playing my new electric guitar I bought a couple months ago and I'm a speed picking god.

I have played real guitar for 14 years come this October and I have played Rock Band since September 9th, 2009, when The Beatles: Rock Band was released, although I later bought Rock Band 2. Rock Band 2 is a great warm up exercise and it has increased my finger dexterity and my picking control.  Rock Band 2 is a game. It's not meant to substitute or replace real instruments. In fact, I dare say Rock Band 2 enhances the chance of a player buying a real guitar.

And taking it to guitar allows you to have an understanding of how to hit certain notes, but either way, it's practice.

I can play real drums, real bass, and real guitar (I'm not the best, but I'm getting there). I think guitar hero is a great game, good for parties and shit. But being good at guitar hero =/= being good at guitar. Same with drums and bass. Singing is kind of true, but the other 3 instruments are nothing like the real thing.

I guess you're right.  But you have more freedom with a real drumset. The game set only has three pads, 2 cymbals and a kick pedal. A standard drumset usually has a snare, a bass, a hi-hat, at least 2 toms, 2 crashes, and a ride. On the game the two cymbals are usually used to simulate about 10 or 12 that some of the drummers of the bands in the game use. Same with the pads representing snare and toms.
