1) Interface the edges of the material. A 1.5" strip on either side makes a world of difference, especially if you're using knit or lightweight fabrics.
2) I hate the gap at the top of the zipper so I position the zipper so the zipper stop is past the top and cut it off at the end. The waistband will keep the zip from coming off the tracks.
3) You can bartack the end with your machine as well. Just set it to a wide zigzag and 0 stitch length.
One thing that you didn't specify in this video, install the zipper BEFORE you sew any side seams. I installed and ripped out the zipper 3 times before I found that tidbit somewhere else.
@lexicalsanctuary Sorry that was confusing for you! It sucks to rip out seams. The skirt was specifically not sewn together at the side seams in this video and sewn together at the beginning of the next video in this series.
I have been sewing for years and mostly self taught. That said I had asked my “sew crazy” mother (she learned how to sew from her late 50’s/60’s Home Eck class) how to do this years ago and her way was Exhausting to do. But I thought that was the only way for x-years. I can’t WAIT to send her this fab vid ... sometimes you can teach an ‘old crafter’ new tricks. THANKS.
thank you so much for this video, I actually bought an invisible zipper foot and my needle didn't pass the tiny hole, so I could never sew an invisible zipper. Not anymore muajajaja.
Pfoe, a lot of new info in your skirt series, at least for me. I'm not an expert, not at all, it looks so difficult for me xP. But maybe after some time I'll understand it better xD. Very good and detailed explained!!
Great Tutorial! I don't know how many times I got a zipper all sewn in and looking perfect only to find out when trying on the garment, that it was inside-out!
The worst that can happen is you don't get it right the first time. But if that happens, just try again! You'll have a better understanding of what NOT to do on your next try!
She replied on one of my comments on a previous video to use muslin, because it's a cheap fabric you can practice with. I'm going to give it a go, too!
@aglanceatmyworld Yea, it is definitely not the way you are "supposed" to do it. But I spent $30 on my invisible zipper foot and I actually hate using it. Using the regular zipper foot to sew an invisible zipper would make a lot of seamtresses cringe. I like to push the envelope a bit. haha!
i feel a bit daft asking but what happened to the in between video. You'v gone from making the pattern to adding a zipper. Did i miss the video cutting the fabric and adding darts?
very helpful instruction <3

@craftovision @aglanceatmyworld I also use a regular zipper foot for all kinds of zippers! I agree that it is much less hassle for the same result!

I didn't know there was such a thing as an invisible zipper foot. I've always just used a regular zipper foot.

Wow, this is the simplest method for invisible zippers that I've seen. Thanks! And thanks for illustrating how to shorten the zipper.
