I loved Dean. I knew him since he first arrived in NYC. It pains me that he cared about what Hilly Crystal and his horrible daughter thought about his music. They know nothing about music. Hilly lucked out. Period. I still like this footage though. Dean was so much fun to hang out with. He was a very nice person.
I'm still hurting, Dean. I miss you so fucking much and some days are worse than others. But I love you more than I miss you. Thank you for making me such a lucky man. BMB
Cool little insight into Dean- first time i was exposed was on the very last 'Andy Warhols' 15 Minutes' after Andy died- Debbie Harry was hosting, they did a couple little diddys including a very short clip of Dean shaking his booty in a dress... it's interesting to now find out who that was and I'm looking forward to finding more of his work- especially "Chicken" from Dean and the Weenies... love it- love him-
I interviewed Dean and the Velvet Mafia back in 95 after a CBGB's gig and I loved their sound. Does anybody know where I can get a copy of "Poppies in Springtime"?
Hey, no one here knows me but I interviewed Dean and the Velvet Mafia back in 95 and I thought they were great! I just decided to look for his music and couldn't find it. There was one song I loved called 'Poppies in Springtime." Anybody know where I can find it? Thanks.
He was so great at the World, that club they knocked down recently to build condo's on the lower east side. What an incredible talent and extraordinary person.
Dean used to live in the apartment directly below me during the 1980s when we both lived in a building on Ludlow St. He had just moved to New York and lived with his gorgeous straight roommate, Stuart. We used to sit up on the roof and talk. I miss him!
Thanks this was really nice - very warm and humanizing for someone who could come across as intimidating at times. I only spoke with Dean briefly once at BoyBar in the 80s, but I used to follow his performances at Pyramid, Fag Bar etc., and I always thought he was the essence of cool - that mixture of punk and camp style that just causes an explosion of joy. Sorry he's gone and wish I had spent more time watching him perform.
what a horrible loss... thank goodness you captured the dean johnson whom i lusted after at the pyramid and rock-and-roll fag bar... his laugh and wonderful, sexy voice are priceless...
This was just wonderful. Thank you so much for creating and posting this for all of Dean's friends and admirers. I never met him, and I'm sorry for it.
Still think of our talks. Miss you.

I met Dean way back in the early 80's when we were both hicks from Maine...lol I moved to Hollywood CA before he became
" Super Famous "...so I didn't see him during this part of his life.
Nevertheless it's that fabulous laugh I'll always remember!
