My family found a baby squirrel one day ( I was little). We built an outdoor cage for him, but we always left the door for it open. He was the best. You could make the slightest noise, and he'd come out and rest on your shoulders. Crazy

I lived on the bayou and use to eat shelled peanuts on my porch. I left a bag out there closed up and ran an errand, when I came back there were several dozen squirrels on my back porch and they had broke into my peanut back and it was almost gone. After that, I started putting them up on the ledge and they would come right by my head and get it. Then I started feeding them from my hand (fingers). It was kind of creepy but very cool. You could hear their claws climbing up the side of the fence.

This video is very precious and special to me and I hope you never delete it.  I had a much-loved pet squirrel with whom I would play the same way; she is dead and I never had video footage of her and when I watch this, it reminds me of her so very much. It's a bittersweet enjoyment, for sure, but I do enjoy watching this video from time to time and it never fails to bring both smiles and tears of remembrance.

Trust me if a squirrel intends to bite you, your gonna feel it. it dosn't take a lot of figuring out to realize that biteforce + sharp enough teeth to crack nuts with ease will go through your skin and flesh like butter.

Besides - short of using a trap - if a squirrel dosn't want to be near you then you aren't going to be able to touch it. I dare you ... try to chase down a squirrel with your bare hands. Good luck I say ;)

I think its safe to say this squirrel is just playful and comfortable.

Actually, the squirrel is attacking. It is stressed out. Wild animals shouldn't be tamed, they should stay in the wild as it is. I know what I'm talking about, I work at penetentury glen which rehabs animals and I work with squrrels ALOT and have learned alot about them.

@BonBon1216 I really don't think the squirrel is attacking. I've worked closely with them for a while as well, and a squirrel that feels threatened will bite, hard, or just run away entirely. It wouldn't keep going back to the hand or roll onto its back without prompting. It's playing.

@BonBon1216 My dad used to trap wild squirrels on accident when he would trap rabbits... When he caught the squirrels he wouldn't even bother with them because they would try and bite him. If this squirrel was attacking him it would have bit the piss outta that man's hand and I DOUBT that squirrel is attacking him.

After one more day I think he is used to us. And he's eating well! Bananas, celery, lettuce, cashews, almonds, chestnuts...and we feed him warm milk. :)

When he awakes he jumps out of his little box and comes jumping to climb onto our shoulders.

How do we feed him? He seems to like bananas a lot but that's all he eats and just once a day, and spends most of the day sleeping. What sort of foods should we give him?

My grandmother had a pet squirrel. It was an adult and her leg was hurt. My grandmother started to give it peanuts out of pity. She started coming out of the tree whenever my grandmother was around. By that next summer it was barking at her for attention (or just to say hello).

I had one years ago and he lived 14 years. He was not viscous. He remained as playful as the one in this video. I got him before his eyes were open and bottle raised him. But yeah, the claws do scratch if he tried to climb up on you with bare skin.

And her being an animal lover, she just picked him right up, and he curled up in her hands and fell asleep. He's still very friendly with my mom, my sister, and me. He doesn't like strangers. :]

@card969 not hard, a lot of patience and treats to get them to trust you, then just work from there, I had a couple as wild pets as you could say, they'd come to me, looking for a little snack and then stick around, playing, one even used to sleep in my hands, really fun, and not bad intelligence either.

I agree, loads of patience. I had a "wild pet" squirrel a decade back, took me a couple of months for the little fluff to actually let me come close, on other places than the small table where I'd feed him. Had to move after a bout a year though. The new house owners thought it was rather funny and kept feeding the squirrel. Was taken by an Osprey about half a year after i moved away though, an old neighbor told me. I cried.

We had a pet squirrel two times. I am now going to tell a story, During the 2005 hurricanes everything was being destroyed, after the hurricanes we went to see the aftermath, then we stumbled across a baby squirrel,we raised it for two years then it tragically died by the pompano beach city workers, they planted poison to kill the squirrels our pet squirrel ate the poison and died. Then a few weeks later we found another baby, it died the next day we never found out why.
