sorry, he is good, but he definitely sounds wooden compared to lanza. more generic. lanza spreads his wings and qiuckly takes off to another place of his own.
@mamaluvify ha ha! well, i was expressing my opinion, which is taste from a non-expert. for someone else, caruso is much better to their ears, no? but i would say objectively that tenors of the likes of lanza and caruso are rare and great voices that will go forward in time, on and on.
Lanza's recording is OK, but this recording brings me closer to the Neapolitan era than any other. Perhaps that's because Caruso had the greatest feel for it.
I like these new recordings with the Vienna orchestra. For me, Caruso really was the greatest. There are other very great ones, to be sure, but Caruso was unlike any other. I think what makes him so great for me is the intensity and the passion he put into everything he sang.
yo creci con discos que mi abuelo me regalo eran de 78 revoluciones por minuto de ahi conoci la opera y a a caruso y mario lanza y hoy q los escucho otravez los disfruto de igual manera
Nobody sings it like Caruso. He took singing to a new level. I have never heard that Lanza would have been digitally remastered either, but I can see why such a rumour could have appeared, given Lanzas more popular approach to singing. But he sure had voice, for real! No question about that.
Lanza doesn't need to be remastered like this. Any electrical recording from 1927 and later can be made to sound new. For this a new orcehstra was needed because all of Caruso's recordings were acoustic.
I love Caruso and all his songs, I think he was and still is the most great tenor voice, but at the same time I admire all the other tenors of this modern era like Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, Carrera, etc. Thanks God for this beautiful voices and this beautiful music! I know God is really happy to have Caruso to sing him all his songs.
Sorry slowpokecat...Lanza and Pavarorotti are blown up by electronic engineers.
Caruso is a genuine maestro. The songs "inner soul" is more important than high c etc. Not surprising, following tenors studied Caruso carefully!
"Una furtiva lagrima" is mostly copied directly in the same style as that of Caruso. Flower song is also copied from Caruso. No one sings it differently than him.
Yeah right. Lanza's first records were from 1949 and were recorded directly onto the master 78s, the technology was just not there to do that. There's no way those could have been electronically engineered. Listen to some of his live recordings before talking about something you clearly know nothing about.
Having read about all great tenors from the past. Having 95% of Jussi Bjorlings recordings as well as same twenty songs by Enrico Caruso. Having burnt cd-recordings with tenors like Corelli, Domingo, Bjorling, Pavarotti, Gigli, Cormack, Kraus, di Stefano Carerras and a few more just to compare the "pros and cons" of their interpretetions....
I can safely assure you GreekCallas that I know more than you think about "the tenor voice".
Everyone knows that Irish tenors are the best. These guidos are all way overrated.

The voice of Caruso? It has only acoustic recordings. It is impossible to have such quality using a computer.

Dear bullies,
See that boy you made fun of for reading a book? Last night his best friend committed suicide.
See that girl you called fat? She is starving herself.
See that old man you just made fun of cause of the ugly scars? He fought for our country.
See that young boy you made fun of for crying? His mother is dying.
Repost this if you are against bullying. I bet 95% of you won't.
Your life is probably not as harsh as theirs.
If it is... definitely repost :) help them out

Caruso was born in Naples. He is perfect when sing O Sole mio, his pronunciation is excellent. I know it because I am neapolitan.

Thank you ever so much for all your work GreekCallas!
As for the tenor trolls, imO, each persons ears percieves an individual enjoyment, a pleasing harmonic if you will, unique to each individual mind.
I'm thankful just to be able to enjoy the different tenors and learn more each day.
