I'm thinking of getting the entire KORG Legacy collection so I can use these and other sounds in Logic, but I have one question, though: what's the best way to control the joystick in the Legacy version using a MIDI controller?
Use your Pitchbend or Modulation Wheel - I use the Mouse which is good enough when in the Studio. But yeah, the Digital Collection including the Wavestation and M1 is a dream come true...the Analog Edition I only use becouse of its MonoPoly Emulation. Korg deserves a Medal for it's very good Job converting it's classics into VSTi's...wished Yamaha would get their shit together and get me a Software Version of the Fs1r,TG500,An1x and (dream on ) a FDSP based one ( Yamaha EX-5 ).
@konnycontact & @xiec I even got the Wavestation Legacy standalone version to work on Ubuntu Linux 10.04 with jack, wine and wineasio. Worked smoother than under Windows XP.
@konnykontant Have you tried emailing Korg software department to see if there is an update you can download to enable windows 7 compatibility?....Worth a try.
For producing atmospheres and Ambient Style Strings still one of the best Sythesizers EVER made. A must be in every Drum & Bass Studio - i only own the Korg Legacy Package but would give everything to own the Wavestation EX...
I love the ambient sounds in the wavestation! Since it is no longer being sold, where to go for such good ambient/clear mystical pads? (Hardware wise) Anything similar?
@CMIKE9783 Hardware-wise you'd be pushed, but the Korg Legacy Collection has a spot on reproduction of the M1 and Wavestation synths. Because the M1 and the Wavestation used PCM samples there is no difference in sound quality when you use the samples on a Mac/PC - in fact there's actually an increase in sound quality, because the Wavestation originally only had a sample rate of 32kHz. This has been boosted to 44.1/48kHz in the legacy version
Ha! I had one of these back in like 1990 or so... LOVED it at the time. My only complaint was the lack of the FM organ that the M1 had (patch 007 I believe?).. You know the one in Robin S. "Show Me Love"..
how to initialize this miracle device?

any one know how to get the sounds to change by the midi controller knobs instead of changing the sounds manually? I have Mpk 88 midi controller.

My favorite synth. It's a damn shame I can't get it to work (software version) with Windows 7 though :(

@konnykontant wonder if the solution is a Virtual Machine. Look at VMware.

Like a d-50 but not as powerful.

@Mattyuk1 ,
How is that?
Wavestation sounds more interesting and original to me.
The D50 is very dated sounding to my ears.

My KORG M3 & Triton are awesome, but my Wavestation still has it's own special place in my studio unmatched!

2:44 sounds like the intro used on Michael Jackson - Another Part of Me! But this keyboard came out in 1990 after Bad (1987).
Who knows though, probably that sound was on previous korg keyboards as well.
isee718 2 years ago
@isee718 Roland D-50 was used for all the song that Album. I still like the D-50 over the korg, but you can't be wrong to have both.

The Yamaha SY22 first available in September 1990. I had one but sold it. It was a bit too lo-fi for my taste.

@supersoundcrafter Yamaha SY-22 and TG-33

@supersoundcrafter It was the SY22, and it had some FM capabilities too I believe

SY22 and SY35, also the desktop version of the SY22 known as the TG33.
Not really as good as a Wavestation, but it still sounds very cool!

@matthehat
You keep telling yourself that the Legacy version sounds better! :)
The fact is that some pieces of kit sound good because of their technical shortfalls or failings IMO.
However, my other feeling is to never buy a synth that has more than 32 voice polyphony,
so my opinion is probably not worth shite!
