Well this didnt last long I agree after they kick Jason and brad out of the band they have changed alot their not bad but not the same first 2 albums had soul and the songs had meanings the only song that had alot of meaning is crow and butterfly which Jason helped write
seriously, they are still real people with feelings. people who are pissed off about them not wanting to sing simple man shouldnt be, because they do still have a choice. and the full story will probably never be shown, so there's probably a lot more to it than that. and zach and eric are amazing people and amazing musicians, so back off them. Shinedown will always be amazing no matter what.
Why is their choice to not play the song anymore due to their feelings that it is disrespectful such a big deal to some of you? I mean seriously, they're allowed to choose what they feel best suits their band and personal feelings about a dear friend lost. Really people, could you find something else more petty to gripe about? Geezus. I think it's moving that they loved their friend that much. A lot of people could be so lucky to have that kind of brother or sister hood in their lives. Let it go
how the hell would it be disrespectful? i dont get it. thats stupid the fans are what got you where you are today and if they want to hear your version of simple man then i say play it weather you like it or not...otherwise you wont get any more of my money...i know i'm just one person and my 15 bucks dousnt break there bank but i say fuck you shinedown...your just pissed cuz a cover got you more recognition then the songs you created...was a fan but after this i feal betrayed
@patfan420 Their band, they can do whatever the fuck they want. Feel betrayed? Too bad. Also your not much of a shinedown fan are you? The cover is not what exalted them to heights of fame, it's Brent Smith's ridiculous vocal talent.
No they talked. He said play it. Brent turned his back on his friend/brother. Yes I said it. When someone you care about is in trouble you do everything you can. Not some half hearted excuse. Hate to say it Brent but I lost all respect for you as a person bro. Still love the music, though its not the same. I wish the best for you Jasin, and thats fucked how shit went down.
I first thought that the replacements was the end of my Shinedown fase, but after seeing some interviews with them, they seem like great guys, and we should give'em a chance imo.
Ive seen them twice in the last few months and they played it both times .
We meet them and the were all very nice, had a discussion about save me with Brent and zach was talkative. All of them talked to my son about the sports he played and other stuff, they all seemed to be very nice guys.
Jasin Todd Is The Soul of shinedown!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!..now hes back on stage writing new materials with brett scallions..all hail jasin todd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wonder when they had a change of heart, because "Simple Man" has been put back on their setlists! I know-I heard it in Toronto on the Nickelback Tour and in Charlotte on their newest "Anything and Everything" acoustic tour! I can't give Jasin or Brad any smack--they are awesome and still are awesome with Fuel! Not that I dislike Eric or Zack because they rock it as well!
They didn't lose Jasin they kicked him out. I know for a fact. Shinedown are a bunch of assholes. Jasin built that band from teh ground up and wrote the music for all of their albums and isn't even getting credit for their newest one. Now Jasin is playing with long time rock band Fuel, a much better fit and a better band.
That thought didnt last very long considering I just got back from x-fest, they were the last band onstage, and they played simple man. Not going to say much for it though, cause i love the song, love that they played it, and that they dedicated it to the troops.
they saw that the fan base had a high demand for hearing the rendition live, so they figured it was more disrespectful that they took that away from the fans rather then not preforming because of the ex bass player and ex guitarist.
Sorry, but their version of Simple man didn't come close to the original. They have good songs, I have nothing against them but come on, the original is obviously the best.
@melekeen I have to agree that I like the original better, but that's only because of the arrangement. Shinedown does not expand the song - if they added light drums and built up the sound during the middle and then go back to acoustic at the end it would have been better than Skynyrd's. Shinedown's sound quality and Brent's voice tone was better for me.
Yes..true fans like the other songs too and why would you pay to see a band do one song. Shinedown is one of the best bands out today.
Yeah they played it again when i saw them in May with Nickelback. And as for the replacements not fitting in---Zach is an incredible guiatarist whether he fits the bands look or not.
I hate to be that guy buuuutttt, im going to...its a cover, I dont go see Metallica to hear Turn the Page or Whiskie in the Jar, Simple Man is a great song, but if you like a band it should be for their music, not somebody elses
I'm glad I got to see them 4 times their first tour because it was one of the best experiences ever to hear them play "Simple Man" and "45" - they're still really good but I feel they were on their way to being an all time great band. Brent Smith is still one of the best singers by far but they got pretty poppy pretty fast.
@xfacta12482 your so in the wrong my man those two replacements which is zach myers and eric bass are incredible and have sooo much talent:) not trying too start nething jus letting ya kno
they played it last night when they opened up for breaking benjamin and nickelback. its still pretty fucked up without jasin but they managed to still dedicate it to dimebag
@LauraAnn13 your are right cause i met them and it was my bday and me and my mom were crying and zach was just like whatever but barry brent and eric all got up and hugged us while zach just kinda sat theyre
Just got back from Atlanta seeing these guys and they played Simple Man. Not that I really cared if they did or not. I love their music but Im not crazy about their rendition of Simple Man. They're still one of the best bands out there today
They played it last Sat. so they must have changed their minds! Yey, for whatever reason I'm glad. It was a great show without it, but I do love their version of this. I wasn't expecting them to play it cause I had seen this a few times, so when they did it was a huge treat for my husband and I!
Yeah they've been playin simple man again... Still love shinedown... but it wont be the same without jasin and brad. Glad I got to see them play when it was the original lineup... Seen'em 6 times... but the original lineup was a lot better.
shows what the hell you know. this song hits hard, even performed by Lynyrd Skynyrd. Performed by Shinedown, the song gets a very cool modern rock edge. And I think it takes alot from a band like this to cut one of their songs that means so much to so many fans completely OUT of the setlist completely. And "honesty" is something that Shinedown has always took pride in and I think thats something to respect. RIP Dimebag.
pretty sure this was a publicity stunt cuz appaantly they've played it multiple times since this was released...i know they did when i saw them Feb 9th...was part of their encore if i remember right
@Xfacta12482 I agree with you 100 percent. I said that about them during a performance and i got hammered on youtube for it, but its the truth. I don't know who dresses this and what publicist or w/e tells them to act like that but they need to go ....Jasin Todd!!!
It's not really a shame to me. As much as I love their Simple Man cover, I am much more a fan of their other stuff. I miss Jasin Todd, but change isn't always a bad thing for a band, especially when they're already as awesome as Shinedown is.
They have got to be the most well spoken band I have ever heard. Well educated also. Anywho..this was a year of so ago, and they have just recently started playing the song live again. I saw them in July and they didn't play it, but man, I wish they would have. And, Jasin Todd and the band had a falling out and he was asked to leave or just left and the record co. had alot to do with that. But the new lineup kicks major ass too..give em' a chance guys..damn.
No Im sorry Brent Smith isnt a D Bag he is way better than that he has the right idea its not their song and since there really inst a reason to sing it with no one to really sing it for then he should sing it Brent Smith idc what anyone says is one of the best vocalists today and he is right if u are a real fan there is more than that song like Sound of Madness,Fly from the Inside,Breaking Inside, and well probably their biggest song EVER Second Chance so there u have it Rock ON SHINEDOWN!
I love shinedown....But take off the fucking sunglasses asshole!......Oh...i'm a rock star. How stupid are the glasses. There are a great band.....but come on!
To john CG27- I think he could have the sunglasses on cuz his eyes might be pinned....looks like he might be using a few too many downers....thats just what it seems like to me though...
WHY DID THEY LOSE JASIN? Was it the fucking lable because he got a PI(public intoxication)? If so that is so fucking retarded....these corporate mother fuckers... we need them yes but we dont need them to be they way that they are..
just saw em in Milw on 12/11 and they did play it..i was a little surprised. seen them mb 12 times and they played like none od the old stuff. still a kick ass show
I thought they were never going to play this song again!!!! Kinda mad!!! What about it being disrespectfull!!!!!!!! I don't care how good it was..It's just not right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ok i know shinedowns version of simple man was incredible, but the fact that fans leave their shows mad because they dont play this song is ridiculous. if you are a true shinedown fan, you will not get that way. if you are a true shinedown fan, then you are there to hear their music. i know that they did a fantastic job with that song, but nobody has the right to get mad or upset about them not playing it. if youre going to be like that, dont go to the show, because obviously you are not a fan.
It's a cover, but it's one fuckuva cover. Cover doesn't make it 2nd-rate, or otherwise less striking. It's a shame that it's off their list, because an acoustic (more like a capella) performance that strong is better than any headstone. Crazy, but I hear the Shinedown version, still have tears in my eyes. Yeah, it's that good, and I doubt Ronnie's family would question that.
awesome good for them to show that kind of respect..and who the hell only likes one shinedown song anyhow? they are an amazing buch of musicians sooo much damn talent I love them
i like simple man as much as the next but seriously its a cover. shinedown didnt even write it so who cares, did you come to see shinedown or come to see a cover? shine down is awesome but the dude jasin was the shit, these other dudes are ok but the one that thinks he can sing is a disaster for them. he kills the vibe when he comes in as back up vocals everytime.
I want so badly to keep being a fan of these guys, but they keep doing things that drive me away. The band hasn't been the same since Jasin left. The latest album was by far the worst of the three and had sell-out stink written all over half the songs. I want Jasin Back, I want the next album to have more of the raw, hardcore rage that the first album had, and for f*ck's sake, play Simple Man. It's one of the best covers I've ever heard and it moves me to tears.
it pains me to say that through a series of awkward situations, the band and the band's producers had him removed. brent and jasin now have an unpredecessed tension that will probably never be mended. jasin made some destructive decisions, and though he quit, they still got rid of him, supposedly for that. They had already hired Zach before he was gone though, and they took things from where they left off. but jasin put so much emotion into his guitar, you could just feel it. I miss him a TON.
well i meet brent smith about 3 years ago and i talked with him for about in hour and i was talking to him about getting singed cause i am also a singer in a rock band but he told me to never play a cover song and he didn't even want that song on the cd so when jason left that was a easy way for him not to have to sing the song any more.
I understand that would be disrespectful cause they kicked Jason out! But I dont think Brent could sing like he use to. his voice has changed espescially live
I saw Shinedown at SPAC this past weekend, and anyone who says they suck live is on crack. They blew away all the other bands (Halestorm, Sum 41, Chevelle, Offspring, and Staind). Brents voice was great, and the energy and crowd interaction was stellar.
I saw them a week age and I though Halestorm and Chevelle were amazing. Shinedown was a little bit better but I wouldnt say they blew them away. Though mine was at a different show so who knows...
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Thank god! Now no one has to listen to them butcher that beautiful song anymore. They should feel ashamed for generating their success off of other band's songs.
Shinedown is amazing without simple man... and as far as butchering the song... personally that was the best cover I have ever heard... the only thing that comes close is hinder's thunderstruck
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Don't get me wrong, they are a good band. I just don't like it when a new band covers legendary songs before they have earned the right to. And personally, I was not impressed by their cover.
Well this didnt last long I agree after they kick Jason and brad out of the band they have changed alot their not bad but not the same first 2 albums had soul and the songs had meanings the only song that had alot of meaning is crow and butterfly which Jason helped write

To those saying Zach and Eric don't fit it-
First off, Zach is shy. And he hates cameras.
And Eric's...I don't really even know. Haha. (:
But, in my opinion, they fit in extremely well.
I've seen them six times and in the past three years.
I've been a fan since 2001. In my honest opinion, Shinedown is better than they've ever been.
Plus, this video is insanely old.

You're right about Zach, he hates being in the light at all, he is very candid.
Eric on the other hand, Eric is a ball of fire, really fun to kick it with, I hear he is a hell of a golfer too.

It's not really a shame to me. As much as I love their Simple Man cover, I am much more a fan of their other stuff. I miss Jasin Todd, but change isn't always a bad thing for a band, especially when they're already as awesome as Shinedown is.

What happened to Jasin todd ?
kurtrodrigo 2 years ago

Motherkuen 2 years ago
ok i know shinedowns version of simple man was incredible, but the fact that fans leave their shows mad because they dont play this song is ridiculous. if you are a true shinedown fan, you will not get that way. if you are a true shinedown fan, then you are there to hear their music. i know that they did a fantastic job with that song, but nobody has the right to get mad or upset about them not playing it. if youre going to be like that, dont go to the show, because obviously you are not a fan.

Yeah, it's that good, and I doubt Ronnie's family would question that.

guess i missed what happend so.. what happend to their guitarist?? he was really good.

awesome good for them to show that kind of respect..and who the hell only likes one shinedown song anyhow? they are an amazing buch of musicians sooo much damn talent I love them

Band tensions and drama aside, people who go to gigs only to hear the hit tune need to get crushed under a truck.
PikkaBird 2 years ago 4
i like simple man as much as the next but seriously its a cover. shinedown didnt even write it so who cares, did you come to see shinedown or come to see a cover? shine down is awesome but the dude jasin was the shit, these other dudes are ok but the one that thinks he can sing is a disaster for them. he kills the vibe when he comes in as back up vocals everytime.
matm0694 2 years ago
I want so badly to keep being a fan of these guys, but they keep doing things that drive me away. The band hasn't been the same since Jasin left. The latest album was by far the worst of the three and had sell-out stink written all over half the songs. I want Jasin Back, I want the next album to have more of the raw, hardcore rage that the first album had, and for f*ck's sake, play Simple Man. It's one of the best covers I've ever heard and it moves me to tears.
crmac50 2 years ago
disrepectful? Im sorry you guys feel that way. but that is bullshit!
kylejkais 2 years ago
what happened to Jasin?
fasterAK 2 years ago
it pains me to say that through a series of awkward situations, the band and the band's producers had him removed. brent and jasin now have an unpredecessed tension that will probably never be mended. jasin made some destructive decisions, and though he quit, they still got rid of him, supposedly for that. They had already hired Zach before he was gone though, and they took things from where they left off. but jasin put so much emotion into his guitar, you could just feel it. I miss him a TON.
SingingForSeven 2 years ago 2
well i meet brent smith about 3 years ago and i talked with him for about in hour and i was talking to him about getting singed cause i am also a singer in a rock band but he told me to never play a cover song and he didn't even want that song on the cd so when jason left that was a easy way for him not to have to sing the song any more.
kurt4093 2 years ago

I saw Shinedown at SPAC this past weekend, and anyone who says they suck live is on crack. They blew away all the other bands (Halestorm, Sum 41, Chevelle, Offspring, and Staind). Brents voice was great, and the energy and crowd interaction was stellar.
guitardude324 2 years ago 4
I went to that concert to!
Shinedown was the only band there who could get EVERYONE to their feet. It was INCREDIBLE!!
Their music has saved me. I love them. AMAZING preformers.

Don't get me wrong, they are a good band. I just don't like it when a new band covers legendary songs before they have earned the right to. And personally, I was not impressed by their cover.
