Quark is quick to pick up on opportunity. Not just the policeman business in this quick video, but anything in life. Furthermore, he takes action on it. Very entertaining and instructive part on his character in this series.
Now that I am older and understand capitalism is liberty in economics, I really admire Quark and his ethics of making profits and running a business. It isnt easy to do so! He gives people a good environment, entertainment, and the products they desire at a price they think is fair. Otherwise no one would go to quarks and he would go out of business.
Latinum talks! Look at Gold today 1800 an ounce. If we stuck a gold backed currency we wouldnt be in this financial mess.
@labartic Yeah, that reminds me of the episode where Quark calls out Sisko for disrespecting Ferengi, when Quark points out that Ferengi reminds humans of how they used to be, except that Ferengi never had genocides, world wars and pointless cruelty. I thought that was pretty clever. I also thought Quark was one of the most realistic and most relatable characters on television
Gold can be replicated hence why it is worthless. Latinum as currently cannot be replicated. When it is replicated the Ferengi economy will be destroyed utterly.
I see bureaucracy of the future are just like bureaucracies of today, it doesn't matter how much it hurts business and the economy, the state knows best so do what the state says...or else.
@sailbeyondthesunset Do you actually know the rules of aquisition and their numbers? Or just that one? LOL Boy you would have to be a die hard fan to know every little thing like that. Do you know engineering too? LOL
Only DS9 could manage to make the ferengi NOT annoying, and actually fun and/or interesting. TNG or Voyager, forget about it, they were awful in that.
@jhohcable I completely agree. They have such a greed driven culture, but you can almost respect it when you're not laughing or shaking your head. The ferengi are some of the most fun contraversial personalities on DS9. Without them and latnum we'd have everything seemingly free; which just isn't right. I've never seen any indication of other federation money. and Quark mentions gold pressed latnum being a ferengi invention. Hmmmm.
@HMDerek4 I absolutely love this episode and have been looking all over. Don't tell me, you didn't post the whole thing!!!!!!!!! Please don't kill us with cut up pieces. Where's the rest?
What episode is this?

I love how they keep messing with Morn's chair but he never reacts. That seems to me to be taking advantage of his good nature.

Finally, a Star Trek being a realistic portrait of the future. Damn regulations.

@wlanus DUH lol of COURSE that's why Odo's doing that. He enjoys making Quark's life miserable.

Loved Odo in this scene - the moment Kira walks into the room, Quark becomes invisible. I'm such an O/K shipper!

Wouldn't technically you wouldn't have to ship them, considering they were a canon couple on the series?

Gotta love Morn's expression as Odo tears into the theory of how the bar stool can kill him.
vguyver2 1 year ago 10
@vguyver2 The best actor on DS9 is Morn, because he doesn't have any lines he just uses his body language and eyes to convey his feelings.
Go Morn!
