  • Eargasm

  • 1:03 Somebody yells "I Love You!". xD

  • 3:34 is godly, loving hearing that

  • This song is so beautiful but I really do think it would work better just as an instrumental or perhaps without the death metal voice of the first part

  • 3 dislikes? must of hit the thumbs down by accident.

  • itz like mediaval muzic or not

    ztill itz fucking food

  • Shit music.

  • @patchesoffear

    You mean, "The Shit" music

  • @0:58 - "i love you"

  • in all of these vids, you can always hear the over exited guy screaming "YEEEAHHHH" every time a new song plays hahah :P

  • 3 people dont like this video.. they absolutely love it!!!

  • Opeth....what more is there to say about them but that they are FUCKING AMAZING!!! :D

  • 4:40 - 5:54

    YES.

  • @strawbarry3 0:00 - 10:29 YES!

  • i love anything from orchid. ten years ago i wouldn't have thought they would get this big. they deserve it.

  • He said "doomy"

  • I think he said "doomy". Just because of the fact that this song is very very very slow like a doom metal song and very "negative" in all ways.

  • 6:30 to 7:30

How can people dare to talk....

  • I like your sn: "pest ridden jackals"... is it a reference to "I hear the baying of the hounds in the distance, I hear them devouring pest ridden jackals of the earth, diabolical beasts roaming the forests."

if so, you must be an opeth die-hard like me.

  • or he could of said Gloomy

  • I swear if Opeth just trimmed off some of the fat off their songs they would probably be the best metal band in the world! They just keep hammering in some parts alittle too much.

  • @PennyDreadful1 i think they are anyway..but i know what you mean..i have a hard time trying to get people to check out their music just cause the songs are so drawn out sometimes..i personally dont mind it at all...but when it comes to getting people to check songs out its a drawback i am finding out more and more..lol..oh well what can ya do..

  • @PennyDreadful1 NO they are not gonna sell out let me guess your one of those guys who thinks metal is metallica which by the way they suck cause they sold out to the record companies. Opeth is staying true to their fans and there music the "fat" is what makes them unique and Hammering away to much how dare you say that opeth can never "hammer" to much.....

  • @Claywilliams23 Woah woah. No! I just think their compositions are tedious. The riffs feel like static building blocks. Listen to the part from 03:34 to 04:24. Alot of Opeth riffs are like that. They start and stop abruptly and stubbornly refuse to stray from their laid out pattern. In short-NOTHING FUCKING HAPPENS!!

  • @PennyDreadful1 You are unable to look at the song as a whole. It's a 10 minute song, a lot of Opeth songs are like that.... Each one is an incredible journey through my body and mind. It's ok that it doesn't do the same for you, but to suggest they are tedious, static or stubborn is ignorant.

  • @Metlahaed No... not ignorant its just very aspie I get hung up on details. I have been thinking about looking at Opeth's songs as a whole and It kind of works I mean its a flawed whole. But this song really.....ughh I shouldnt have to compromise this much to enjoy music. Good thing I found Porcupine Tree through Mikael Åkerfeldt. I catched Opeth live once and was far more impressed by a smaller band named Unexpect. Opeth just sounded....kind off drab.

  • he speaking voice is fucking awesome

  • lol he said it was a dooby song lol as in a joint? :)

  • @xNaTuRaL1x Lol, I think that might be what he meant.

  • @xNaTuRaL1x or a scooby doo song LOL jk

  • This is awesome, epic, outstanding, etc etc....everything good has already been said :D

Badass is the one word that comes to mind when I hear this song, especially this version

  • IMO better live/on the roundhouse tapes than on the album.

  • Awesome song.

  • Redefines epic...this is the best version i've heard yet, his voice coming directly from Valhalla...all other metal should bow, or just drop outta the game. Nothing even deserves to be called epic after this. I cant possibly say enough good things...just listen

  • Listen to loneliness by Drowning

  • Opeth is simply too awesome for their own good. One of these days Akerfeldt's head is going to implode from greatness onstage. I hope I'm there to see it

  • Opeth are the Mozart/Beethoven of metal, simply beautiful and exquisite...

  • @redfirebird2739 Sexy time..

  • I dont like hom many of the melodies and riffs in Opeth repeat themselves after another.

It feels like unfinished melodies being looped and it disrupts the flow.

Once you get past that the music is awesome!

  • 3:33 is the stuff dreams are made of.. Opeth is soulgasm

  • @M00nlord

    Soulgasm XD

  • Eargasm. IT'S OVER A 9000% EARGASM!

  • Amazing melody, Mikael's voice together with the music ... just perfect!

  • 0:58 "I love you" - LMFAO

The spectators at this concert are so fucking great! But Opeth did the right thing to put microphones everywhere in the place to catch the live atmosphere authentically. So you can hear comments like this very well - but in the end: Opeth fans are the best anyway ;-)

Oh and by the way: Marvellous song of course, especially the acoustic part starting at 2:57

  • as much as i love opeth i will go out on a limb and offer a criticism of them...the death vocals are primarily used to convey aggression which the lyrics he growls are not agressive to me theyve outgrown the growls

  • @arkee71: I don't know. Certain bands use them not only for aggression, but sadness. Or they completely reverse the 'norm', using clean vocals to express the aggression/sadness, while using growls to depict a bitter-sweet calmness that one only realizes if they know the lyrics themselves.

  • @arkee71 they wouldnt be the same without the growls...for many reasons ..one his is very unique ..and the mix of it between his cleans is what makes the clean vocals stand out more then they already do...definitly my favorite vocalist of all time..just a style and range with a overall sound of perfection from many worlds(genres of singing.)

  • @ayerslay i wont argue with that...i stand corrected ..opeth is perfect just the way they are

  • i juste want to cry..more than just a song it's truth

  • epic song !!!!!!!!!!!

  • 50,000th view! winnarrrrrr

  • Oh my... what a voice.

  • the ending to this is just so powerful..

  • I bought Morningrise back in '97 with no idea of what kind of music it was. One of those "hmm... wonder what this is" moments. I was totally blown away by their music, and I still get goosebumps when I listen to it.

  • this song is about his grandfather. he'd never play it live, be eventually started playing it though

  • this is music ,,, my friend

  • Check out my channel for opeth inspired acoustic music! cheers!

  • the epic part at 8:50 is one of my favorits

  • at around 1:00 you can listen someone from the crow shoutin "i love you" XD

    Great Opeth!

  • yes, I remember that moment of the night

  • haha thats cool

  • love this song it is sooo awesome!!!!!!

  • I liked Mikael's voice when it was a mix of high and low the best, I.E. My Arms,Your Hearse. Best album for clean vocals is BWP, no questions asked, but the growl at the beginning of April Ethereal just has this intensity that he's never been able to match since those days.

  • His growl...It literally doesn't sound human. I am surprised everytime I see it coming out of someone as calm as Mikael. On top of it, one of the best singers I've ever heard. But his growl...Oh my god...

  • hmmm good band!

  • Never heard them before..

Must say i loved the vocals x]

  • hell yeah

  • Opeth is already the most Epic band ever. But I would to hear a live album with an orchestra playing their songs with them!

  • How is that new DVD of Opeth's? Any good. I want to get it if so.

  • This is my favorite opeth song, I've seen em like 9 times and they never played this...however I hear they're playing it on this tour, i'm so pumped PERFECT song

  • 9 times, not bad. saw them 2 times and next month it will be my third time. they are coming to my hometown in germany. fucken aweseome.

  • its one of my fav songs too! i saw Opeth for the fist time and never saw it coming but they played this, i went absolutely nuts dude!

  • Build and play such emotional things, then share it with the world...thats what we call real artists...

    Thanks Opeth.

  • opeth is playing this song during this world i hope everybody could enjoy this kickas song on live i got lucky they played this one two times here in mexico. Greetings to all the real opeth fans around the world. PD: Forget Damnation the real opeth is back.

  • damnation is actually really good its just not heavy

  • what a kickass song

  • hahaha, at 0:59, someone shouts something like "i love you"

  • What does Mikael say at the beginning? It's a "something" song, I can't tell what word he says there.

  • gloomy ?

  • I don't think so, sounds like it starts with a "d". Crap this is bugging me, whatever, I'll just listen to the song.

  • doomy song he said!

  • Please enjoy this one. It´s a dopey song called "The night and the silent water"!!!

  • @SentheX I think that he said:"It's s doomy song..."

  • it`s a doomy song called the night and the silent water, is what he says.

  • i thought he said it was a doobie song haha

  • 6:31 is so perfect...the whole song is perfect

  • uta la wea bkn

  • im seeing peth in may, if they play this holy shit I will freak out

  • yeah i think im gunna die if they play this one

  • lol i gess id die too then...this song is just amazing

  • I know people say this over and over again, but I do like their epic sound on Morningrise. The sounds had a lot of ambition.

  • I came.

  • lol

  • opeth are just all that and a bag of chips enough said

  • omg dude this band is so chill to listen to when youre high

  • I HATE THIS STUPID BAND OF FAGGOTS... ha ha ha ha, I'm just kidding, I did it cause no one talks shite about them . This is simply one of the greatest bands when it comes to technique. I've been listening to their music since 1998.

  • opeth is so chill they set the perfect mood for like writing and chillin

  • Give me a thums up!

  • last three minutes are so fucking fantastic I cant begin to express my happiness during them

  • this song is just massive, nuff said

  • I love Sweden.

  • they should have digitized mikael's DNA and sent it to the space station instead of steven colbert's. I think mikael's genes should repopulate the planet in the event of a nuclear fallout

  • SO EPIC. How do they do it? The world may NEVER FUCKING KNOW. THAT'S what makes me mad. I want to KNOW HOW they make their songs SO FUCKING EPIC.

  • lol

  • Funny reaction... :P I wanna know too!

  • BY EATiNG THE SOULS OF A THOUSAND CHILDREN!!! MUAHAHAHA!!! But no, some more powerful than that... so powerful... it's really powerful... can't really think of anything at the time.

  • ownage

  • Of course tonight I'm going to listen it before falling asleep.

As I do every night with any Opeth song.

    Check April Ethereal.

  • 7:33 Goosebumps.

And the whole fucking song is awesome.

Opeth, how do you fucking manage to be SO good?

  • Fucking amazing... Truly fucking epic. i don't think i will ever forget this 10 minutes...

    Opeth is my god.

  • I saw these guys in Worchester recently. When they played this the place simply stopped. Everyone stopped what they were doing. Moshing head banging everything and stood there jaw dropped at how fuckin epic the ending was. I still can not put it into words.

  • Its like rising over everything drived by this powerfull rift, showing us how much Opeth is divine.

  • 0:58 'i love you!'

anything from their first two albums - perfection!

  • this song is unbelievable. When i listen, i feel like in there. The night and Silent Water!

  • man. they played the best set when they came to London (Ontario). Bleak, Deliverence, and a shitload of others i dont rememeber cuz i was too high. but theyre simply the greatest band EVER.

  • their song are fucking good really

  • man when they played this in NYC i damn near cried and crapped myself both at the same time hahah

Not to mention when I met Mikael and Fredrik before the show!

  • THE BESTTT!!! YEAAAAH FUCK YEAH!!!!

  • It's amazing how Opeth manage to improve their songs tenfold when playing live.

  • What? :D

  • what an amazin song

  • This is fucking sublime,I hope they come to venezuela next year, i´ll give an arm to be there, and if they play this song...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!fuck yeahhh!!!!!!!!!!OPETH!!!!!!

  • Opeth never comes to Argentina, I hope they do....some day

  • si loco, tienen que venir urgente!

  • estaría muy bueno.

  • what album is this song from??

  • shmorningrise

  • i seen Opeth last weekend -- they played Forest of October, Bleak, Deliverance, Demon of the Fall, Night and Silent Water, Serenity Painted Death, Lotus Eater, Drapery Falls, among others.. was really surprised to see October and Serenity. They KICKED ASS.

By the way, Lotus Eater ftw

  • just saw them last night in buffalo on the first show of their tour. they played this song and it was f**kin amazing. one of the best live bands i have ever seen.

  • Setlist please?

I see them tomorrow night. I'm fucking pumped. Second time in four months, but it's worth it for Opeth.

  • Lol at the guy who says, "We love you!" around 59 secs. This song sounds sooo much better live--much more charisma.

  • ye ...like the still life album is so incredible you should listen a bit to it and you'll get a great feeling inside of you..

    mikael = GOD \m/

  • i love Still Life sooooo damn much

  • Dude, i understand what you're saying, but I'm sure that you must find SOME interest in the rest. I mean, "Face of Melinda"? "Bleak"? "The lotus eater"? "Isolation years"? I mean, I know that you might have some different interest, but really, I find it IMPOSSIBLE. Opeth is one of the best band(s) in the world! It's hard to deny THAT! but that's good that Damnation is a highlight to you.

  • FoM, Bleak, and IY are amazing. The Lotus Eater is absolutely awful. I'm sorry you think that is of the same caliber as the others. Clearly their best songs are: Night and the Silent Water To Bid You Farewell Demon of the Fall When Bleak The Drapery Falls The Moor Face of Melinda Harvest Advent There's more, but Lotus Eater is not among them.
  • Yea, I think Opeth's ONLY not good song is The Lotus Eater.. It's just so annoying.

    Best songs.. Ummm.. All?

  • Yes I totally agree, The Lotus Eater is their worst song. And yes, almost every other song they have is amazing.

  • what???

  • lol Lotus eater is one of my fav Opeth songs. but thats just my opinion

  • Haha, to each their own I guess.

  • yea it's strange that somebody loves it and somebody hates it. Even Mikael said on dvd that he think lotus eater is the best song from the album

  • Lotus Eater is better than Harvest. But yeah the rest of the songs on there are pretty much their best, To Bid You Farewell being their number one.

  • Lotus Eater is NOT better than Harvest. To Bid You Farewell is amazing, though I think NatSW and Advent are just as good.

  • i really hope they do the moor in baltimore.

  • @ 7.30 is soooo sick and intense. I mean the whole song is awesome but the audience saying go and it starting is sick.

  • Uhm... I definitely gotta buy Morningrise ! i wonder why i haven't got done it yet.. :)

  • One of my favorite songs of all time. So incredible to hear a live version of it finally!

  • perfect mixture of melody & metal.......

  • Still Life is their last death metalish album imo. Blackwater Park is also amazing but different. Deliverance & Damnation stand on their own but Ghost Reveries and Watershed continue Blackwater Park soundwise. Amazing band with a constant evolving sound.

  • Still Life is their least Death Metallish?

    What about Damnation?

  • I will see Opeth live on the 29th of june '08 @ Graspop,Belgium.I can't fucking wait :)

\m/ Opeth touches the soul of the listener.

They will be metal history someday in the future :)

  • Haha, I believe they already has attained a spot in metal history... ^^

  • did he say its a doobie song? as in weed?

  • It sounds like he said that, yes, but I think he says "duel lead song."

  • I am thinking about getting this title as a Tattoo on my chest for my mum who died 10 years ago.

I f**** love this song, for me opeths best.

  • sorry about your mom dude, but that's awesome!

I've always wanted an opeth tat :)

  • More enjoyable live. And that says a lot

  • um

    no

  • he needs to keep kicking ass. listen to something else if you don't like harsh vocals.

  • You really do not know what an amazing singer he is! He can switch from brutal death vocals to angelic, beautiful singing.

  • Hah. I can do that, it's not angelic, I don't want to admit that it's beautiful but it does have a certain dark beauty. And I'm pretty good at death vocals, I think (you've every right to disagree with me if you wish). and um... I'm not exactly an amazing singer, though some may understandably disagree, and basically what I'm trying to say, is that if I can do it, then heaps of people should be able to because I really do suck.

  • you have to admit, though, mikael has a very good melodic range as well as being a great dm vocalist

  • I can't decide if I'd like that, or dislike it for it's dilution of the core five of them...

  • I can do it too, but not nearly as good, and I've damaged my vocal chords doing so, not that that stops me. I don't think 'heaps of people' can do that though and there aren't many who can do it that well.

  • then upload yourself singing it because i call bullshit, many people claim they can sing it the same or just about when in fact they are fucking horrible and nobody wants to give you the cold hard fact that you suck

  • beautiful silent emptiness enternity

  • Opeth is great they rock hard

  • i somehow think the talking of the audience in the mellow part of the song fits surprisingly well to the atmosspehre of the song.

  • at :59 a guy in the crowd yells "I love you"
