I think its a geek thing...we pride ourselves in tracking how many languages, technologies and paradigms we've had experience with. Hard to shave that hard-earned stuff off a resume for the sake of 'convenience' - or perhaps more nicely put - relevance and sharpness. But I agree with it as a reality, dependent on whom I'm applying for.
