I would take it further - I don't think anybody should be engaged until after they are out of college and if you don't go to college until after you have moved in and lived with the person for at least 2-3 years. I think the problem with people getting engaged at a young age is they just see it as the next step in a relationship. "We've been together for this long and we're fine so I guess it's time to get married." Then going into marriage without realizing that there are going to be times that aren't going to amazing.

I think the problem with people getting engaged at a young age is they just see it as the next step in a relationship. "We've been together for this long and we're fine so I guess it's time to get married." Then going into marriage without realizing that there are going to be times that aren't going to amazing.

I was engaged at 16 and with advice from my mom, I waited to go through with the marriage. At 18 we were split up, never married. Best thing that happened to me! Engagement at a young age is a big deal... think about it kids! My second engagement happened when I was 20 and we carried the engagement for 3 years before getting married. This year will be our 5 year wedding anniversary! It is very wise to wait unless you like punishment and torture! lol

Kids get engaged in high school and junior high now? Why am I not surprised? Anyways, when I was in high school, i was in no way shape or form relationship material. I didn't care then. Now I am still not relationship material but I do care. Fact is that marriage is a big deal. You need to have your life together before you enter someone else's. I think that some couples around 18 or 19 year olds might actually have known each other for many years and might have been together for a few years and yeah like thats good and i think it would be good if they got engaged but maybe they're not ready to spend the rest of their life with that person a few years down the track. But i remember in primary school my friends with boyfriends would pretend to get married and have a stupid ceremony for it at lunch time, and they were dating like a week.

personally i think getting engaged is no big deal, because you can be engaged for however long you want. if you want to get engaged at 17, yeah, youre kind of dumb and you probably have no idea how to survive on your own (as you said) but hey, your life. its entirely another thing to get married. if you want to get engaged and you guys can survive past college and THEN get married, fucking props to you! if not, hey, no harm no foul. ya know, until she shoots you for breaking up with her.

When i hear high school kids are getting engaged after a couple of weeks....it makes me want to slap them.
Marriage is only for mature, level headed people who can stay with someone for a long time with a minimal amount of drama.
I dated a guy for 1 1/2 years..then we got engaged and stayed engaged for 2 years and it was awesome but we decided we'd break it off and see the world before we made any commitment. He's my best fried now..so i dunno how exactly that works out but whatever xD <3

@SirDeathkit No! It may seem like a good idea now, but the fact that she'll be in university dating a blue-collar worker would reflect back negatively on her image. It'll create peer pressure and other complications. You are way too young to be moving in together. First thing, you should graduate from high school and get degree from a state college. Then figure things out when you're at least 3 years older.
