  • @MikuMikuFreak me too... that's also my problem and i'm afraid to just click and click oks with the warnings attention dialog boxes that just appear....

  • ありがと!

  • Thank you! :D

  • I have downloaded an IME that worked without Office XP (I used back then 2007, now 2010 beta), before I installed the 2010 beta I started to have a weird problem:

if I wanted to write the syllable ga for example, it would just show the hiragana for 'a', if I wanted to write ko, it would show 'o' . why?

  • im using vista. how? i dont have cd also. lol

  • When I switch my language bar to Japanese, all of a sudden all of the settings are in Japanese (They were English before), and I can't seem to type any Hiragana or Katakana in Romaji. It's one key per character... Does anyone know how to fix this? This seems to happen at random. My default language is English, and I've checked the settings for the IME. (I'm using Windows XP Pro SP2)

  • I don't have the installation CD and i dont have a CD-ROM help please?

  • @KiraYamato152

Install Google IME instead of MS-IME, if you don't have Windows XP CD-ROM.

  • @nihongopc but that just makes it so i can type in japanese but i still cant see the characters

  • @nihongopc Not available for a language what do?

  • when I go to "add imput language"

    japanese isn't there..

  • Have you already installed "Japanese" to XP?

Japanese IME is the input software. So if you want to install Japanese IME, you need to install "Japanese" and then install "Japanese IME".

  • my problems the same ,,but my computer can read japanese..i have installed ime..whats japanese? does this still needs CD? pls helpT__T

  • hey were you able to fix your problem???

i currently have the same problem and apparently i need to install japanese ime onto xp. ill message if you if find a solution and if you know of a solution let me know please.

    peace

  • If you can read Japanese in Windows XP but you have a problem to install Japanses IME from Windows XP, try Google Japanese IME.

It has been released recently and works well on Windows XP too.

It is not Web IME, so you can use it in offline.

    Search 'google 日本語 ime'

  • @nihongopc A great thanks to you man

  • nooo, i wasn't. yea everytime i tried to install the ime it said that i didnt have an xp, but i do so im not sure. yea i hope you do, and thanks!

  • Hi ,

I'm sorry but I can not help you, if you don't have Windows XP CDs or some kind of backup CDs for your PC.

But if your PC has i386 folder, you might install Japanese IME.

You can also try web IME such as Ajax IME or Social IME to input Japanese via Internet.

  • I have i386 folder, now what ?

  • Try to appoint i386 folder, when PC ask to insert Windows XP CD.

  • I can't it is a massage box saying to incert windows CD with options OK and cancel there is no browse option ....

  • @nihongopc how would you go about doing that

  • but i dont have japanese in details how can i get it ? plz tel lme

  • So I can see Japanese, but I can't input it. I would use my XP disc but I lost it. Even if I had it it wouldn't work as the CD drive no longer works on this computer. So I go to mirosofts website and try and get the IME from there but it says I need Office XP. Help anyone?

  • i lost the installation CD and it isn't installed on my pc

does anyone know where i could download it?

  • same! D:

  • you can download it on the microsoft website

  • tried that already but it said something like the language is not supported and i was like ?.?

  • me too! T_T

  • こんにちわ。

  • いいえ、ちょっとちがいます。

    「こんいちは」とかきます。

  • ありがとう!!! こんにちは!

  • I've done everything that multiple sights have told me to (including this video), on three different computers, and for some reason that bloody language bar will not show up, no matter what I do. My friend got it to work on one of my computers for a month or so, then it suddenly wasn't there, and neither of us could figure out why or how to get it back. Any ideas?

  • I can write input Japanese...just randomly. While typing a paper or browsing the internet the letters will just randomly turn into Hiragana, and the only way for me to stop that is by closing the program. But with MS Word, when I try continuing where I left off, it doesn't help. Tried what you suggested, and nothing. Also, the "alt+shift" isn't working for me.

  • Um....sounds like your pc has a serious problem.

Are you sure that you install Japanese IME from Windows XP?

    Sometime people accidentally download Global

IME which is for Windows 98/ME from Microsoft website.

If your default language is not Japanese,

you need to press "alt + shift" and then "alt + ~"

    to input Hiragana.

I recommend to reinstall Windows XP and install Japanese IME from the beginning.

  • Well, yes, my computer does have serious problems, but that "alt + ~" works...I just hope that it consistently does. That being said, how would I go about typing in Katakana/Kanji? For my Japanese class I know I'm going to need Katakana soon, and seeing as I can't get the pad up, that "alt + ~" seems to the only way for me to manually change the language. Thanks for the help so far, though.

  • Are you using Roma-ji input to convert Hiragana, Katakana or Kanji? If so,

Step1. Change the input mode to Japanese by pressing "Alt+shift" then "Alt + ~".

If you see language bar, it shows あ.

Step2. Type in japanese with roma-ji. For example "asa" which shows あさ in hiragana.

Step3. To Hiragana, press Enter or F6+Enter.

To Katakana, press F7+Enter. To Kanji, press space key twice. It shows you a lots of selection of Kanji like morning(朝) or hemp(麻) etc.

  • Well, the language bar is still no where to be found, but the whole "alt+...", F7, and double space works fine. あさ アサ 朝 麻 There. Is that what all what I'm supposed to see (going from Hiragana-Katakan-Kanji)? If so, I am deeply grateful for your help. I don't know why the language bar won't show, but if this continues to work, I won't need it. Again, thank you so much.

  • I am having the same problem. I have followed the instructions exactly and the language bar won't appear on my laptop. I did the exact same thing on my home computer and it worked. I don't know what's going on...

  • Hm, well, I don't know what to tell you, except that if you follow the instructions he gave me, you really shouldn't need to use the language bar itself. I've been doing what I was told here and haven't had a problem since.

  • To show the Language bar

Open Regional and Language Options in Control Panel.

On the Languages tab, under Text services and input languages, click Details.

    Under Preferences, click Language Bar.

Select the Show the Language bar on the desktop check box.

I'm having trouble too as my language bar button is there; it just won't allow me to click it. IME works, the bar won't display unless Date, Time... etc is open. Also I still can't type in Japanese haha!

    I hope this helps anyway.

  • wtf why can't I get this to work. My bar is little and non detailed like the one shown.

  • Have you already installed Japanese(not Japanese IME) to Windows XP?

First, you need to install Japanese from Windows XP CD and then you will see a lots of other languages.

  • I got it to work now. Had to reinstall the "east asian languages" then it worked for some reason. Thanks.

  • hey can u please tell me how i can input it without the cds?
