Actually there are thousands of verse/passages in the Quran, but he does not (or does not care to) try to understand their context or read preceding verses as they explain what he quoted. As can not understand 9:14 without 9:14.
I wonder, if he or others they critique any given book (science, novel …) by picking any paragraph and assess it accordingly without reading and understanding the whole book for context and basic comprehension.
It seems like a polemic exercise.

Quran Understanding 1
Understanding Quran or (other holy books) is like understanding other subjects: physics, philosophy…etc. One starts with basics. To understand 4th year physics you need 1st 2nd & 3rd year physics. Aside from basics, Quran/Islam is no different.
Two key rules to understand Quran: 1) context – verse(s) in Quran are often related to an event (or context) in which they were revealed; 2) Some verses supersedes earlier ones on a given topic.

In other words, the verses of the Qur'an mean nothing unless you quote the entire chapter - except if you're quoting Meccan verses of course - All the violent verses are always "misinterpreted" and "out of context."
Nevermind that tens of millions of our co-religionist think otherwise, including scholars and imams and jihadis.

You may not believe in a creator. But Quran being his revelation, punishment of dread must be taken within the context of ungrateful creation rejecting its creator despite his bestowed blessing/bounties
We accept state to punish citizens for breaking laws; but not creator to his creation

This verse was revealed to encourage Muslims (with support of angles) to fight in the first battle (Badr) they were allowed to fight Mecca unbelievers who expelled them from their homes. Muslims were afraid of defeat as they were 300+ & unbelievers 2000+

9:14 “Fight them! Allah will chastise them at your hands, and He will lay them low and give you victory over them, and He will heal the breasts of folk who are believers”
I think 9:14 makes sense now
Anything can be made to look bad out of context

@Rosstaman100 You are quoting completely out of context. These verses were revealed to the Prophet in a time of war, where Muslims were being persecuted and robbed from their homes. The Prophet had tried to avoid war multiple times prior to this. The Muslims were fighting in self-defense!!
I suggest you read the whole book, the whole Quran, along with its commentary. I guarantee you will not find it illogical or violent in any way.

@palmtreebeautiful You know, it's funny that no ever misinterprets the 90 Chapters from Mecca - never - but every kafr on the planet and the millions of Muslims who support and engage in jihad whether by da'wa, money or physically always misinterpret the 24 chapters from Medina, even though they are from the same Prophet and god.
