  • How does the OCD4 vary from the OCD3?

  • Gearmandude, I love your man rock. Keep rocking, as a man does. ROCKING MEN UNITE!

  • Comment removed

  • Probably should have rethought that man rock comment uh? :/

  • Wait -- if a Les Paul plays man rock, and a Stratocaster plays girly rock, what does PRS play?

  • He never fails to make me laugh..

  • David Grissom uses the Plimsoul... I have a Plimsoul... I dig both tones... Might have to have one of each.. my board is big enough for another pedal!! lol

  • Man Rock with a sissy Les Paul....are U kidding?????? try a real 25 1/2 in scale STRAT or Tele!!! btw... I liked the Demo but not the SISSY comment LOLOLOL

  • The OCD are so mellow

  • If strats and les pauls were light sabers, the strat would win in a duel.

  • SO FUNNY! I love the defensive comments from the strat guys! Whatever works for you, man! I have owned a Les Paul, Strats and now I only play thru 2 Telecasters...I am only interested in playing "girly man" music these days....LOL! Great tone tho! It prompted me to buy a plimsoul as a welcome addition to my OCD.

  • LOL! Love your work GMD but Les Paul = Man's Guitar? So why is it I've never heard a Les Paul that sounds bigger or more 'manly' than Stevie Ray's #1 Strat (with the possible exception of Pearly Gates). Tonewise, a Strat can go just about anywhere a Les Paul goes, but a Paul can't quite get where a Strat can, if you know what I mean. But at the end of the day there's a reason why these two models are held up as the epitome of excellence in solidbody tone...They're both just fucking awesome!

  • "So if you dont like Man-Rock on a Man's guitar..."

Cracked me up man, good demos are hard to come by and yours are some of the best, keep up the good work!

  • great video!!!

i use three OCDs, a V4 for for rhythm and two V3, one for solo and another as a spare. recently i tryed the Plimsoul and didn't like it...

for my ac/dc rock style music + '69 stratocaster + plexi super leads i felt the OCD V3 and V4 have more "everything" then the Plimsoul.

but... i feel i'll have to buy one and use it on a couple of rehearsal and gigs - that's when tone really happens. if it doesn't work for me, well... a lucky one will buy it for a good price! : )

  • Since I first posted, I picked up an OCD v.3 - the heaviest tone of all versions. The feel of the OCD v.1 is very Marshally - nice bass, bright highs. By the way, manrock only here - Les Paul Custom through both Vintage Marshall and Mesa Boogie heads and assorted 4x12 cabs (I have 4 cabs loaded with different speakers). Somebody on the forum said that the OCD has no mids and the Plimsoul does. Just watch from around 3:00 when he flips the OCD into HP Mode - happy? But the v.1 & 3 kill v.4!!

  • your braggin about being a "man" yet you use the word "humbuggies" -______- hmmm...

  • manrock...? sounds like you're packin' a small one...brranggg...!

  • Banjo-casters are just dandy, but Les Pauls make ear candy!

  • good demo plim a bit nastier--- ocd a bit warmer- all depemds on your touch and main axe

    thanx

  • I am gonna get both it just makes it easier.

  • Gibson, a MAN'S guitar. Love it!

Granted I like yourself have both Paul's and Tele's. Perhaps it depends on the testosterone levels on any given day.

My vote was the OCD, has a smoother sound, but what can I say... I am busy using a cheap GFS greenie that you made sound so good in another demo. Works wonders on my Dr. Z until I trade up. Perhaps i need to get your OD that I hear you make for around $100.

    Keep it up Gearmandude!!!

  • both are great

  • OCD got more muscles

  • plimsoul is more "edgier"

  • plimsoul sounds just like a marshall head to me...... OCD was great but not as responsive...

  • @MrManson94 Congratulations, you're the only one who cares about the damn font.

  • How many garter snakes had to die to make dem boots? I like em both. Both boots and both pedals. Ain't no one playing man rock till they pick up one of those shiny Schecter guitars and plug it into a nice digital effects out thee arse solid-state Line 6 amp. Of course one must smash said guitar over the head of a local authority figure before plugging in. That is just a given. And then, and only then, bust into an epic solo a la the dude from Creed. Now that is MAN ROCK.

  • hey girl, can you play guitar? Are you stuck on a paul like you are with the ugly boots and do you sleep with them on?

  • a man's guitar... that made me laff..... Hendrix was a pooff ....lol

I think Gibson should use your "man" line in their advertising ...

Damn I forgot to listen to the demo.. back I go

  • Man-rock??? LOL!

  • am I the only one who niticed that he doesn't have the dials set the same across the 2 pedals...?

  • @apeman34 the v4 is noticeably quieter. he was trying to find parallel settings

  • Plimsoul definitely has better definition in higher gain areas.

  • The OCD is the best.

  • Gearman can we get one comparing the Custom Badass 78 and the Plimsoul? Love your demos!

  • I must say, I have watched pedal demo videos for several hours now and it seems I have not even scratched the surface. BUT, out of all the distortion/overdrive pedals I have seen so far (including the Ibanez screamers and the Maxons', and even the badass custom 78 or the zac wilde) this one is definitely the most legit. I would rather spend the 100 extra bucks and get this one for sure over a tube screamer.

  • What about the plimsoul with one of your great honeybees teles?????

    It should sound great!!

  • check out any of the dozens of vids (even some by the above guy) comparing the ocd to the dano cool cat. they sound exactly, i mean exactly the same. so save yourself $100 and get a danny.

  • I might just get the Plimsoul, cause the text on the pedal isn't printed in damn Comic Sans!!!

  • i'm looking for a warm, smooth sounding OD pedal which sounds good with full chord strumming, what would you recommend?

  • @BZ182 ocd

  • @BZ182 Maybe Check out the soundblox pro multiwave distortion.

  • @bluemandobird What??? Have you been watching too much Fox news as not to be able to discern words? I do not own a LP I was goofing on the mainly LP guy. Some guys like women with big butts I like that little Strat gymnast body myself, thin, lean and mean. I prefer Strats but let's be real the LP is a great guitar, way over priced but a great guitar. Pagely and Bonamassa but Trower, Beck, SRV, Hendrix, Clapton, Malmsteen and Blackmore you cannot take anything away from a Strat.

  • OCD WINS!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @npg4life Sorry but I stopped listening to GMD videos, just too thin and tinny, the pedals just have no real balls and really sound like they do through a decent amp. Listen to anything by Brett "Bugerman666" note the difference. He kills on pedal demos, and he records loud even with a smaller amp he gets great tone.

Sorry GMD, we love ya, and most of us sane ones know you are not Jack Black but honestly, screw Dr Z. Some wattage please. Revamp your record upload method.

  • Ur wife gave me a HUMBUGGY in the bathroom JB

  • fv

  • OCD is better...

  • Hi Gearmandude, what amp did you use in this demo?

  • I will buy whatever Jack Black tells me to.

  • @veitchy88 holy shit thats so funny you fuck ball, do you really think that your the frist person to say that...go bite your toenails off with your teeth....STFU! jack black tells you to STFU and tell you mother hell......HEY JOHNNY PARK!

  • Tone is subjective to one's ear - but, I gotta say that the OCD kicks the living shit out of the Plimsoul! I am a proud owner of an OCD Version 1 (not biased, as I did extensive, including which version OCD I wanted) - it's pure magic! Mike Fuller has created the next great Overdrive that everyone will want...and it plays with my TS-808 as well, which is the original mac-daddy. My rig will always have my OCD. By the way, I only play a man's guitar - Les Paul Custom. Marshall and Mesa both!

  • @ericrico22 I run a ts-808 in front of my ocd v4 and they play nice together. Nice combo

  • I like the Plimsoul much better than the OCD. Recently sold my V.4. The OCD is cool and has a great amp-like feel to it, but there are no mids whatsoever in that box! It's hard to find a sweet spot. It always has a harshness to it also that is difficult to dial out. The Plimsoul is sweeter and has singing mids.

  • I have the OCD and Plimsoul and im selling the plimsoul asap. The OCD has wayy more bass response. The Plimsoul gets very..... crap sound.

  • git er done with that man guitar!

  • Is there a more natural sounding overdrive pedal than the OCD? IMO no...

  • @cornjuicy ... did you try the Suhr Riot ? I'd like to compare with the Plimsoul.

  • haha gibson endorces jonas brothers doubt they know the first thing about manly instruments

  • About time Jack Black did a guitar demo. Good stuff. I think I'm going to buy these bad boys. I got a Lovepedal Superlead but, I just can't quite make it do what I want it to do.

  • This video is like watching two great fighters exchange in the middle of the ring. I felt like each one took certain rounds. Very even though. I'm debating about eliminating my OCD for a Plimsould and don't think I can do it right now. CAN I find a way to have both?

  • Man's guitar, HAH! Want a man's guitar, play a mf'in Telecaster!

  • Comment removed

  • Hey bro just curious, have you done a demo of the gtrwrks ftat five overdrive? If not you should get on that. Great demos thanks for all the great pedal info.

  • I minimized my browser for a blind test. I think the OCD is better for more bassy tones. (a hint of a fuzz sound in there.) While the Plimsoul is for a more trebley distortion for leads. Not one is better than the other. Its a matter of preference.

  • gearmandude you f@ckin rock!!!!! best equipment reviews on youtube

  • Ok, my thought is this, the PlimSoul is more of a competitor for the TS9 or some type of Screamer, maybe a BD-2 Keeley.. More about the Mids/Blues distortion. I think the OCD is Overdrive Distortion.. dirtier, crunchier... (I know, everybody has their words to describe what they hear, mine is crunchy) IMO, i dont think they are the same tool at all.. In the end the versatility of these pedals lets you dial in your tone pretty easily with a little time and patience..

  • @ourawkfist Well, the Plim has both soft and hard clipping, so it's kind of a smooth mids TS and a nastier OCD in one. The OCD is all about asymetric hard clipping and it's a single stage pedal.

  • Mmmm I'm sticking to strats.

  • Seems like the Fulltone is the winner. Sounds fuller & more real. The PlimSoul sounds more transistor-ish no?

  • @mrpingua

they are both Fulltones, one is the OCD and the other is the PlimSoul =D

IMO the PlimSould sounded more brighter and more alive

  • @seusicha

I'm sorry I meant "Seems like the Fulltone OCD is the winner". jejej Yes I aware same maker on both just different models =)

  • Is that jack black?

  • lol, man rock!!!!!!! I have a Les Paul and Strat... (some times I play "Bitch Rock" too)

  • This is Jeff Bleck, i can tell by his voice, i've seen Schoolhouse Rock and Pick of Desinity

  • Nice demo dude, now I own both. Your welcome Mike Fuller.

  • I dig the volume boost that seems to come with the OCD - just a bigger more Marshall sounding pedal. Tough to beat. Plimsoul sounds good in its own right but they both seem to cover very similar ground. I'll stick with my V3 OCD for now.

  • You can’t really tell from this demo but, in my experience, the Plim is MUCH juicier and more versatile than the OCD. The OCD was my “go to” pedal for a long time…until I got the Plimsoul. Now I’ve taken my OCD and my FD2 off of my board in favor of the Plim. I have a Fatboost (I’m a Fulltone addict) after it into a delay and that’s all I need for anything. The Plim has way more oompf and a sweeter range. Run it at 18v and forget about it…it’s a KILLER!

  • ocd has more balls

  • les pauls sound better with p90s

  • how long has black been playing guitar and did he teach himself or did he get lessons?

  • I would like to see a shootout between the OCD,Plimsoul, and the Pinacle 2 reissue. Also what else do you use in this video to get that great sound, is it just the pedals and the amp or something else? By the way the Les Paul is outstanding!!!!

  • I would love to see you do a shootout between the OCD,Plimsoul, and the Pinacle 2 reissue, also what you use in addition to pedals in this video the sound is great? By the way the Les Paul is Beautiful!!!

  • from 2:55 OCD kicks in me hard in the face, and I feel like "mom, give 300U$D to buy a pedal...", in argentina OCD cost that

  • @ezeqkkk i got mine used for 60

  • Great Reviews Brother

  • I swear this fellow's Jack Black!

  • Jimi wasnt a man?

  • Speaking of man rock, does that include a tiny watt amp w 1 speaker?? Maybe it's the crappy compression and xfer of YT bandwidth but the little amps all sound thin and tinny, all midrange. It takes no watts or speakers to produce dist highs and that is what you get.

An Strats are curvey like a female's body whereas that LP is rather manly.

  • @CarvinTone - I imagine you would be real surprised to find out that most of the great Rock & Roll classics were recorded with smallish combo amps ...

  • @MaitreyaRocket So what, who in the hell wants to play them live? They are good for and were created for one thing, early clip out and distortion. You cannot sustain a decent loud clean tone with no watts just like you will not see a little watt tiny speaker bass amp. There is a reason for watts and it ain't just volume! A 100 watt amp is not 10 times louder than a 10 watt but the headroom and dynamic range and response is of no comparison.

  • @CarvinTone Shoot, a Les Paul looks much more like a woman's body than a Strat does! Look at those curves --Just like a woman. And when I'm holding one and stroking one it makes me feel SO much more manly than a Strat. lol

  • YES! MAN ROCK!!! NO WUSSY SINGLE COILS ALLOWED!!

  • I'm with the BirdDog overall OCD wins!!! Thanks for your reviews GMan!!

  • The OCD has been my all time favorite OD pedal. Now you're making me question my tastes with the Plim

  • @xdivinebladex i'm right there with you... looks like my ocd shall have a friend :)

  • That guitar is heavenly. I don't agree with this aura of buggie hate that is sweeping the boutique-y folk.

  • jack black?

  • HAHA MAN GUITAR!!!!

  • Are these new boots that we are seeing? Very nice indeed.

  • They sound remarkably similar. If anyone has either there shouldn't be a need to get the other. Fulltone makes great stuff.

  • Thanks so much for the A/B comparison! (even if you're misguided about Dick Dale's guitar, anyone can handle 9's on a 24.75 scale Lester but try 14's on 25.5" Strat and we'll see who the sissy's are). The differences you speak of aren't so apparent on the youtube audio, or not in any significant way that I can hear through my fairly good sound system. If I'm gonna shell 169 clams for an additional distortion to my OCD, I want a more fundamental difference. You're a true friend to the consumer!

  • The OCD wins hands down every time, I have one and love it.

  • You must like these pedals, GMD, because this is probably the best I've heard you play.

  • no, clapton USED to be a man...then i guess he lost just one, uh, when he went SG before he totally femmed out with the strat. bolt-neck. strap-on?

all comedy guys! save the vitriol

  • Jeff Beck describes Les Pauls as sissy guitars.

  • @blueskidd96 Good ole Beck was probably on dope when (and if) he said that. There's nothing sissy about a Les Paul. On the contrary -- it's a bulky, viril sounding instrument. I play both an LP and a Strat just like Jeff Beck used to, and I love 'em both.

  • @blueskidd96 Les Paul sissy guitars? show me the link ,i find that hard to believe that beck would make such a stupid statement

  • @blueskidd96 Beck was joking around in an interview. He was implying that the Les Paul was an easier guitar to play than a Strat. His comment had nothing to do with how a Les Pauls sounds.

  • @blueskidd96 HAVE YOU SEEN THE COVER OF BLOW BY BLOW? THERE'S JEFF WITH A LES PAUL, WTF? I GOT A STRAT, A TELE, A LES PAUL AND A GRETSCH 5120, AND I LOVE EM ALL, CAUSE ANY GUITAR KICKS ASS IN MY HANDS. MAN ROCK? I PLAY THE ROCK OF GODS: PAGE, BECK, SRV, THAT'S WHY AMERICA IS GREAT 'CAUSE WE GOT GOD, GUNS AND GUITAR.

  • @THEAUDIOCONSTRUCT Well I'm glad you like the great ENGLISH rock of Beck and Page. I just thought I'd put that out there.

  • @blueskidd96 RIGHT ON!

  • @THEAUDIOCONSTRUCT Two out of three of those things don't make America great as far as I'm concerned. As for the third... two out of three of those guitarists are BRITISH.

  • @danakerman YOUR FUNNY, YOU CAN'T RECONGNIZE SATIRE!

  • @THEAUDIOCONSTRUCT You're right, I missed it. The even funnier thing is that there are so many people on YouTube who would actually make the comment you made and MEAN it. Hence my earnest response.

  • @danakerman IT'S ALL GOOD IN OUR HOOD danakerman! that's the prob with text, no one can hear your tone of voice, or see your tongue in your cheek as one types

  • @blueskidd96 - Beck wasn't speaking in terms of tones ... He was talking about the ease with which a Les Paul plays ... Strats , LPs , & Teles (ecspecially) require different skill sets ...

  • @blueskidd96 Jeff Beck must have been kidding-He made his career playing them and owes a lot of respect to that style guitar.

  • @blueskidd96 he used to have a signature les paul...

  • @blueskidd96 Then that makes Jeff Beck a sissy when he recently did the Les Paul tribute concert playing a Les Paul

  • @blueskidd96 Beck plays a Les Paul occasionally.

  • @blueskidd96 pretty ironic then that he occasionally played les pauls live

  • @blueskidd96 Rednut2000 describes you as naive.

  • @blueskidd96 I'll take a Plimsoul!

  • @blueskidd96 jeff beck a man?

  • @blueskidd96 i describe jeff beck as a sissy guitar player.

  • @dfulmer129 I describe YOU as a Know-Nothing KNUCKLEhaid !! COME AWN!!! Jeff Beck is a

Stone cold genius!!! Almost everyone would agree on this... just listen to his latest opus..

Emotion & Commotion..... It's ASTOUNDing!!! And he may not be yer cuppa.. but there is ABSoLUTEly

NO WAY he could ever be called a "sissy"...

    IS that Clear ????

  • @dfulmer129 The man is one of the most versatile players alive. He can switch from finger style to picking to slide in an instance. This is coming from a person that doesn't even own one of his CDs.

  • The OCD has more bass and sounds better IMO.

  • Having played both in a live setting for a couple gigs now, I can say the Plimsoul is great for playing from slightly clean to crunchy dirty overdrive with great sustain, overtones--even feedback!--at REALLY low volumes for cranky club owners. The OCD (V.2 in my case) is still THE nitrous tank for a good amp on the edge of break up. The Plimsoul does this as well. If I had to choose one, I'd carry the Plimsoul into battle.

  • Yep - get 'em both.

  • OH!!

so hendrix and SRV arnt men!...(and so many other greats..clapton,eric johnson, etc etc)

    yeah right!

  • I've only watched this video through my shitty laptop speaker so I am not 100% confident with my review but it seems to me the Plimsoul has a smoother less "hairy" sound and the OCD has a bit more spank and fuzz around the edges. Am I hearing this right? I've definitely read an overwhelming amount of folks in favor of the OCD but i'm going to attribute a bit of bias to that seeing as how the Plimsoul is new and most of the folks probably have never even tried it.

  • I love that at the end of almost every fuzz/od/distortion shootout GMD's response is effectively, "Yep, they both rock, not the same....gotta have both of them".....which so does not work in the budget of a college musician!!!

  • @guitarfor1 College? Gearmenndudes dont go to no colleges!

Sell the house, buy more gear!

  • I would totally have a beer with Gearmandude!

  • a man guitar playing man rock? Someone appears to be overcompensating....

I really did like the demo but the 'man guitar' thing is just stupid.

  • Don't get all Freudian, it was just a joke.

  • @ThieleM god what a douche lol

  • @gree17

I dont think anyone is a douche....well maybe Phil Collins

  • Comment removed

  • Gearmanndude: a man with a man's guitar playing man-rock.

  • Professionals buy/use pedals because they sound different or better than anything they have ever heard. Working professionals buy/use pedals because the producers that hire them like them. Bedroom dudes buy pedals in the faint hope that they can sound like their heroes! So it is quite simple: Give me a pedal that does Beano, Watchtower, Won't Get Fooled Again, We Are The Champions, Black Dog, Jealous Again, Jumpin' Jack Flash, Jailbreak, etc...

  • Once switched to HP mode, the OCD sounds more like an amp, with thicker, more defined lows. I run the OCD at 18V, which seems to give more definition and cleans up better than at 9V. The OCD still seemed to clean up better than the Plimsoul, but the Plimsoul seems to have more gain with the 2nd stage turned up.

Thanks for the review, GMD. I was intrigued by the Plimsoul, but I think I'll stick with the OCD.

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks GMD for all of the hours of enjoyment your demos have provided me with.

  • great demo, great pedals...i have both. love your sense of humor. rock on...

  • That rules. Can you do one with the V2?

  • both Les Paul and Stratocaster are great guitars :)

  • Good demo ! I prefer the OCD, maybe because often use it.

  • same over hyped pedal. uninterested.

  • @MrKennyurchuk- That's pretty insulting seeing as more than 95% of guitarists don't play professionally. there are also a lot of people on the internet playing "for free and nobody" who are a lot more talented than a lot of professional guitarists. Guitar isn't about playing for people or being famous.

  • @superlou1s -I'm sorry I insulted you - I guess I'm saying that you can turn off the camcorder after 20 minutes unless of course you have something enlightening to say. Have a great day!

  • @superlou1s Guitar isn't about playing for people or being famous, guitar is about getting laid

  • @skurtix- Maybe 20 years ago it was. Now you'd get more pussy playing a children's keyboard from the 80's in an indie rock band.

  • @superlou1s

I think you mean dick... lol.

  • @superlou1s Well Said !!

  • you have nothing to do to insult people on the internet ......

    go pratice!!

  • "A Les Paul, which is kind of a sissy guitar when compared to a strat anyway." - Jeff Beck

  • HAHA! Everyone's butt-hurt over the Strat hate, myself included.

I hate SG's but some people can make em sing. Good thing there's a bunch o'differnt guitars out there otherwise we might all sound like the same out of tune, headstock heavy, crappy sounding Gibson.

Cheers, and play yer guitars, people. Don't worry about what anybody thinks.

  • OCD - has more fuzziness around the edges, sounds drier on chords but still very warm, warmer tone overall

PLIMSOUL - sounds more crisp around the edges, gain sounds more focused,

***as always, it depends on what other gear you're using, how all of your gear complements/works against each other, what sound you're looking for, how it feels, and what you're willing to pay***

  • I watch the demos just to see those killer snake-skin boots!!!

    Rock on Gearmanndude!

  • Man you just kicked musictoyz ass! Your demo rules! By the way, I got 2 OCD and I don,t need anything else.

  • Is it just me or does this demo have better sound then your other ones. Great to hear your demos with better recorded sound man. Or it`s just the man guitar... :). You Rock!!! Greetings from Portugal, Francisco Abreu.

  • hey whats the amp, and the amp settings used for this video?

  • Man-rock, on a MANS guitar...fuck yea nothing beats a GIBSON ( epi doesnt count...) LP with humbuggies...

  • dudes...all the gearman is trying to say is a les paul is for man rock...strats perfect for the other 50% of the population....
