  • I'm from east Texas. 1/5 people I know have some land. All most everyone has boots. I have horses. And a accent. And almost everyone is conservative. Btw bush lost less money in 8 years than Obama has in 3

  • i say yall though

  • im from texas, i dont have an accent, i dont own a ranch i definately do not have cowboy boots, i dont own a horse, but what is tru is that the people here are usually pretty nice and the state has an awesome history, i never get bored in texas history class......

  • These stereotypes of Texas saying that we're all a bunch of uneducated, prejudiced, hillbilly rednecks are all wrong. The closest thing to a redneck you can find here is some middle class guy that likes to hunt and fish. If you want to see a TRUE redneck, go to Louisiana. There are a lot of farms here, just like EVERY other state.

  • Thank you. Thank you so much! I get amazed by the questions people ask me about Texas. Ah, stereotypes. Fun stuff!

  • Nobody says 'y'all' down here in south Texas....

  • The ONLY stereotype that can be VERIFIED about Texans is that we say YA'LL !

My family has land, but been to it ONCE & wanted to LEAVE when I got there (I'm a city girl). Being from Houston, I never understand when people from other states come to the city and STILL be surprised that they DON'T get to see any horses on the street or a Saloon with cowboys or that no one eats BBQ EVERYDAY(ew!). Who comes up with these things?

  • @TheEmeraldshapale GO HOUSTON !!! some people still think Texas is just a series of small towns, when in actuality we have some of the biggest cities in the U.S, with Houston being 3rd, just behind New York, and LA. but i guess we're the black sheep of the family of big cities because of our states negative history. Also the diversity atleast in Houston is fantastic.. being a black girl here everyone is so friendly and treated the same.. even people from the middle east

  • I'm a Texan but my mom's from St. Louis and my dad is from... well he lived in a military family so he was everywhere. Luckily I don't have the twang but every Texan is probably guilty of saying "ya'll" occasionaly. Texas is actually a lot of different cultures, but the true hillbilly Texans fit a lot of those stereotypes. Haha you should see our county fairs. I think people in different countries might stereotype us more than others in the U.S.

  • Well, I have a hat, I outgrew my boots, I own a ranch, no I don't have a horse, I'm conservative and Catholic, I have the accent.... this applies to a lot of people in North Texas actually. lol

  • @polemomaniac Well, there is always a bit of truth to stereotypes. I mean, if there were no Texans with ranches or accents no one would think there were. And to be honest I do love a good Texan accent probably because I hear so few. =/

  • i'm from canada so i'm suppose to live in a log cabin or perhaps even an igloo depending on how north i am. there's always snow except for maybe one month. we are all bilingual (english/french). there is nothing much to do in canada but i am surrounded by wilderness, particularly maple trees...but wait, i do get internet here! stereotyping is fun, isn't it, eh?

  • I'm an ex-Texan now in New York, and people are ALWAYS surprised I don't have an accent. I am a super conservative Christian though, so sorry for feeding that stereotype. :-p Also, you have to admit that there ARE a lot of pick-up trucks in Texas. Great video! Subscribed.

  • This is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. I must now send this to everyone I know. These questions = my life.

  • im texan and i always get asked these questions too XD most of them dont even make sense. i wonder where they get those stereotypes from 0_0

Once i went up to new york and was talking with a friend i made, and in the middle of a conversation i got a txt message. when i pulled out my phone she was like "O_O...Whered you get a cellphone in texas??"

  • Bahhahahahaha, awesome!! When I first moved to the UK I got ALL the typical "Do you do this, do you do that, where are your cowboy boots?" kinds of questions!! And I'd say of all the states that Texas is probably the one with the most expected stereotypes attached, like people really expect you to BE the stereotype, it's funny though to dash people's hopes with the boring truth, lol....

  • @phemohilia I know! I kind of hate to tell them that I'm just a regular non-cowgirl like they are.

  • Love it :)

  • Just like lots of people down there and Canada.

  • i used to completly believe that texas being heavily racist was a thing of the past...but recently i've seen young people on talk shows who contribute their VERY racist attitudes to being brought up in texas....

they said there was still kllan meetings and everything :S so it made me think some of the stereotype is true

  • @tally24th Being raised in Texas doesn't make you a racist. There are people that are from Texas that are racist but the fact of their geography does not effect there feeling towards people. Racism is everywhere, as unfortunate as that fact is. As long as there are people with weak enough minds to fall for the crap Klan leaders spew out there will always be people joining.

  • I'm from Texas too, and i get those questions too, most people tend to think that Texans are still stuck in the 1960's or something.

  • @littleglonia I know what you mean. I tell them "You don't go through any rifts in time and end up in the 1900s. It's just a bit further south."

  • Loved this video. I'm from small town Texas and I totally hear many of those stereotypes. The yee haw cowboy stuff is most common. I'm also told that Texas is a desert place. Oh boy.... lol. Thanks for the upload. <3

  • Stereotypes for California usually involve me either being a surfer, saying "dude" or "like" in every sentence, being a huge stoner, driving a convertable, or running into famous people all the time.

Or, if they're being more unoriginal and decide to pull the racial card, they insinuate that I'm an illegal and that I make my living in the fields or cleaning houses.

Thumbs up for not perpetuating stereotypes!

  • @rurikokagetsu See! I say dude all of the time and I have never been to California. Why do people spread these LIES?!?

  • As an Australian, I guess that makes me a beer-drinking, BBQ-making, beach-going, shorts-wearing, kangaroo-riding, vegemite-eating, "G-Day" speaking, laid-back, easy-going, sheila bogan... I'm cool with that :)

  • I ride a kangaroo.... apparently

  • @Ectoplasm64 You don't?!? =P

  • I'm Irish the stereotypes of Ireland are that we have orange hair, we know leprechans and we drink beer alot

  • I dunno about Chicago stereotypes... I guess the closest thing I hear to a stereotype about Chicago is that we wish we were New York so are endlessly striving to be... well, like New York, lol. But it isn't true! WE invented improv, blues, not Broadway... but still, we are naturally urban!

  • @JoanIsNotTheMaid I've never really herd any Chicago stereotypes. All I know is you guys seem to put a lot of stuff on your hot dogs. =P

  • A) I live in texas.

    B) I am ukulele17 from DB. WHERE DO YOU LIVE I NEED TO STALK YOU.

Yeah I'm one of the "please to get me the eff out of this state because I am a vegetarian liberal who actually fights for gay rights in her free time and isn't prejudiced to people in general. (my mom teaches ESL to kids that AREN'T ALL MEXICAN. #thingseveryoneasks)

  • @lexaguitar16 I like in Houston. Where do you live so I can stalk you? Wait how old are you? I don't want to look like a pedo.*checks channel*Ok we should be pretty good.=)

Oh and I too am one of those "Please get me the eff out of this state...!" people.

  • @MalfoyIsOurKing Crap. I'm in Dallas. BUT THIS WILL HAPPEN. SOMEHOW. Come to a Dallas wrock show or something. They're pretty amazing. Or I can make an excuse to come to Houston for some weird reason.

I'm 18. YES. I really really really really wanna go to Washington for grad school.

  • I was in New York once and i met some people who i told i was from south dakota and they said in a schocking tone "People Live there?"

  • Where abouts in Texas are you?

I have the best story. I saw this in a magazine. So there was this girl, and her mom told her they was moving to Texas. The girl burst out crying, and her mother asked what was wrong. The child told her that she didnt want to live in a ghost town with cows. Honest to god.

  • I love Youtube. It's helping me break the boundaries of stereotypes :D

As I'm sure you know, because I'm from South England, I am incredibly posh.

Or so the stereotype goes :)

  • i know how you feel..

  • I live in Ireland!!! So I'm always going around saying "Top 'o the morning to ya" and drinking whiskey and hanging out with my leprechaun friends :P Yeah...

    Lol!!! xD

  • @fluffyvolkswagen At least your stereotypes are kind of cool. People think Texans are stupid hicks that don't know their right from their left.*needs to move from Texas*

  • @MalfoyIsOurKing Well I don't believe that you are all stupid hicks!!! :D *hugs*

  • hahaha. i was born in texas.

my grandparents actually fall into a lot of those stereotypes. i love them for it.

  • Unrelated to the video:

I'm wearing a threadless shirt today. "Captain Bellyflop Strikes Again"

  • @MalforIsOurKing here is a video response for you

  • @lightyagami2009 Thanks=D

  • I'm from England so I have bad teeth, talk in a cockney accent and wear a bowler hat whilst drinking tea and eating scones with the Queen apparently...

  • @SuperJar I do all of those things...maybe I'm English*sips tea*

  • hahaha, this one was funny xDDD

  • I had to deal with this in TN as well. Fun stuff.

On a side note, when dealing in stereotypes, Texans are quite fun. I was talking to WillsOdyssey yesterday and he asked me about rednecks and I said that there are several different kinds, including rednecks, hilbillies, white trash, etc. and he asked me about the people in Borat. I was like "They're Texan." And he said "So, redneck?" And I said, "No. Just Texan."

I know that's the opposite of what this video is about, but it's still funny :D

  • @fizzylimon Ha! It's kind of like the rich Texan on The Simpsons. People just assume that that is the way we are*fires guns into the air*oops.

ps These stereotypes wouldn't exist unless they were at least a little true.

  • Great video, Jess!

3 cheers for the vegetarianism, non-support of Bush, and no guns! :D

    - Jason

  • @crimsong19 *cheers three times*

  • Haha. Well. I live in Norway. The steretypes on Norwegianns, or even Northern Europe in general, are really weird. I blame Hollywood.

I mean, why do all the Swedish girls in movies sound and look German?

Anyway. Stereotypes are fun. Especially when you know they aren't true.

  • @Nannirk I blame most of it on ignorance but it's always fun to show people how false some stereotypes are.=)
