  • "bugaboos"

  • Why must Buckley speak in riddles?

  • @PatrickHumphreys He was never easy to keep-up with. His jokes were often so spontaneous, Buckley would laugh along with you. I would love to see William F. Buckley Jr. in his prime take on a virile Christopher Hitchens. A war of words!

  • From an aesthetic standpoint I think Playboy is a celebration of the female physique/anatomy. As to the people who say that it objectifies women, isn't the body an object in contrast to the mind/spirit, which would be the essence that makes us human?

  • As a man I admire Mr Hefner for emancipating women from the socio - sexual prison that religious dogma has kept them trapped in for thousands of years. Mr Hefner's Playboy philosophy is a natural progression from the sexual freedom voiced by Bertrand Russell. Playboy is an artistic magazine in essence, from which women can express their sexuality.

  • Man I never realized that Hefner had reflected over this subject in this degree, man I lol at WFBs right leaning typical sitting position :)

  • william f handing hefner his ass

  • @deltapunk21 You must be confused ... Hefner was/is well beyond Buckley's typical redundant predictable christian right views.... Hefner handed Buckley his ass ...

  • i salute hefner for starting the great porn industry !

it has given me thousands of hours of masturbation pleasure

  • hefner is still banging 22 year old playboy models

    buckley is dead

    so hefner won

  • Buckley is in his element; unfortunately the sexual revolution was more than just indulgence. It was about being single as a woman... you can go to college for more than finding a husband. Sex can be more than missionary with the lights out. You did have choice in what you wanted in a partner. Pregnancy and venereal disease were no longer inevitable consequences of non-marital sex. And people can talk; a new world. Time moves on, and people are still looking for that great thing...togetherness.

  • The Play Boy clubs were a early prelude to the current Gentlemans clubs of today ...Praying on the obvious weakness of men (manipulating mens egos and taking thier money) ..giving them nothing . Men are the bigest fools , they are such easily led to this kind of trick ..just like porn and magazines .. they give you nothing . This is the sadest common state of our male population . Not able to relate to real women , in real life ... just fantasy women .Men , porn leads no where, but Alone !

  • WFB interviews a pimp who thinks he is intelligent.

  • Hefner is a sad, pathetic man.

  • the overrated dullard heffner had to be shaking in his boots going up against the great WFB

  • Buckley is timeless. Hefner will simply be known as the world's most infamous pornographer. Which would you rather have on your headstone?

  • This was filmed in '66 and Hefner still looks old as hell. The interviewer's voice is annoying as shit.

  • Comment removed

  • Ha! Hefner was wrong; the sexual revolution did not lead to greater monogamy.

  • @MissElfreda He was absolutely right. The divorce rate in liberal states is much lower than in the "bible belt" The most recent christian experiment of "abstinence only" was a huge failure. We saw a huge rise in sexual diseases being spread via oral and anal sex among teens, and indeed the pregnancy rate went UP during this failed experiment. Conservatism always fails.

  • @MrTruthAddict I was commenting on the sexual revolution, not conservatism or liberalism. People in the West are less monogamous now, than they were before the sexual revolution.

  • @MissElfreda it destroyed the family unit - look at all the Fatherless kids - drones for the powers that be to control - the take down of this country by the elites lie in the sexual revolution -

  • @MissElfreda No, the revolution isn't anywhere near complete yet. People need to have a healthy attitude towards sex before that can happen, and in the good ol' USA the scourges of stratified gender roles and gender expectations and misogyny run rampant. There's a lot that needs to change

  • @beethovenfan3 I think that Buckley's attitude to sex is healthier than Heffner's and my view of the need for change would be to return to sex within marriage.

  • @MissElfreda lol get real

  • @MissElfreda 'Healthier' how? In what way can it be considered un-'healthy' for two consenting adults to have sex for its own sake without, say, even being in a relationship?

  • Also, Buckley is a massive conservative dick. Disrespectful, condescending, intellectually inferior to Hefner. I'm surprised Hefner managed to keep his composure-I would've just gone off on the motherfucker

  • @MissElfreda A great reminder to us all.

  • @MissElfreda wrong , I would blame that on feminism

  • young hefner still gettin young women

  • II don't oppose drinking, but I do oppose my workers drinking on the job. There is no inconsistency here, and to claim otherwise is a serious logical blunder on the part of Buckley.

  • Hugh Hefner's eyes look intense to the point of derangement. Also, I found his abilty to debate and reason sorely wanting. E.g., his error regarding Freud's stance on sexual repression. I find it interesting that Buckley is going after Hugh Hefner yet nowadays Hef is seen as a pioneer and force of good.

  • Hugh Hefner's eyes look intense to the point of derangement. Also, I found his abilty to debate and reason sorely wanting. E.g., his error regarding Freud's stance on sexual repression.

  • I despise his condescension but the man spoke like music. He was an artist of sorts. Hefner impresses me with his proposition of a somewhat philosophical theory and outlook.

  • as much as i respect Buckley, he does not do a good job here with Hefner....it's pretty clear that Hefner has a well thought out philoposhy that Buckley can not attack with much other than "I think differently".

  • @misterears I disagree. Buckley caught Hefner in a few errors throughout this conversation. Good clip. This was the first time I have seen this interview.

  • I think this search for a new ethical, you know, set of moral values based on something other than simply rigid rules set, set forth uh many many centuries ago is uh is something from which only good can come. (Hugh Hefner, right 1:58 to 2:12)

  • Buckley will be rolling in his grave - america is the most sexed country in the world now...! :p hahahaha what a dolt... :p

  • Whoa... Heff looks downright creepy here.

  • I think Buckley is belaboring the point on the inconsistency of Hefner's missives to readers versus those to his 'bunnnies', simply because he's getting off on the repetitive usage of "bunnies" (He uses it like 6 times in 8 minutes!)

  • it's very lovely to see buckley's backward views totally debunked by time itself, historically documenting him as a sophomoric clown of a man :) what a pretentious, dull and unimaginative mind

  • @howudoingbaby He forgot more in 24 hrs then you have ever known in your entire life you boring charlatan.

    Stop criticizing your superiors.

  • @countertreason "boring charlatan" is that similar to an "elderly child" or a "colorless green" ? lol

  • @howudoingbaby no, its more like, 'someone who makes you feel bored while by pretending to know something that they do not'.

And by pretending to know what the words 'boring' and 'charlatan' mean, you clearly didn't know what one of them meant, you have at least proved that u are a charlatan

  • @countertreason well, i guess that's a pretty rational misconstruction lol thanks !

  • @howudoingbaby

re: " what a pretentious, dull and unimaginative mind"

Surely you meant hefner, not buckley, who is a pitiful caricature of an intellectual snob complete with

an awkward pipe prop that he doesn't know quite how to handle.

  • It's amazing to watch this, especially compared to the garbage that passes for debate these days. TV talk show debate today is just a useless shouting match where nothing is really said. It's all childish bluster. It doesn't matter what "side" you're on.

  • Wow, an actual conversation, as opposed to a 7-minute guest spot on a "talk show" or people screaming at each other ala Crossfire. Plus, a host ripe for parody. Those were the days...

What is interesting and/or sad, is in reading the comments to these interviews, it becomes obvious that the substance of real conversation is lost on viewers these days. They've become so accustomed to the talk show format that they can no longer appreciate, or possibly even hear what is being said.

  • @89commonsense I think we are clogging this video with our comments. Anyway I didn't know you were against secularism - one of the most enlightened concepts conceived by mankind...If I had I wouldn't have labored so much. Also to imply that a teabagger reads is a bad joke. Anyway, I wish you well, really. I know you're sincere about your views.I disagree with them but I respect their existence.Take care, pal. Much love.

  • @89commonsense And finally, dealing with church | state, its not enough that religious leaders cannot run for office if their political ideologies are running for office through non-clergymen. if billy graham or ted haggard gets a weekly phonecall from the oval office and the president is in a position to be influenced by him(as georgie was when he cut down on stem cell research on religious grounds) then we have a violation of Thomas Jefferson's enlightened edict.

  • @89commonsense firstly, its an admission of severe gullibility to even believe that jesus of nazareth was God,and in the virgin birth, resurrection and all the other fanciful fairytales.nonetheless,I do revere jesus the person and his message of compassion.Secondly, who's to say at what point of the evolutionary ladder is an organism imbued with a soul.if you go that far, then why kill an animal if it has a soul too?(if youre a creationist this point won't fetch you)

  • @89commonsense the teabaggers are a bunch of lunatic neurotic would-be-kkk-if-it-were-60s mutineers who supplant hard-thinking for bromidic slogans like "no taxes" "nobama communist spending our future".these dull platitudes bespeak a wanton hatred for academic reasoning.economists like krugman are of the view that the spending in not enough and many fear a double-dip recession.i don't want to even go on the topic of economic-illiteracy of the teabaggers, it just nauseates me.

  • @89commonsense i didnt say you were catholic,i said catholic buddies since you were singing paeans to them.now if a scientist who happens to be catholic invents a cure to cancer,i'd be the first to eulogize him, since his religion is immaterial to his profession.but to use catholicism for deriving laws about abortion or norms about what is libertine and what isn't is objectionable.this is exactly what bill buckley was doing here.P.S.by teabagger i meant that cult of rightwing bigoted nomads

  • @89commonsense oh a columnist from the left bashed ayaan's book, that must mean ayaan is a teabagger! it's 89commonsense! lol learn the lesson, son. another reductio ad absurdum argument from your mouth and i block you. now go grab your roman book of rites perform an exorcism with your catholic buddies on perz hilton.

  • @89commonsense As for Ayaan, it is no secret that she fraternizes with bill maher, richard dawkins, salman rushdie, etc all of whom conform to liberal ideals. for a man/woman whose id says common sense, you certainly lack it.why would a woman persecuted by the religious right gravitate to conservatism?just because glenn beck hates islam as well, doesnt make them political kins.thats like saying cause hitler was veggie, gandhi wants holocaust too.you need some help at argumentation, son.

  • @89commonsense my approval of contraception situates me philosophically closer to a pro-choice position.Abortion is vocalized so firmly by you guys yet you turn a blind eye to the death of americans who die in iraq and afghanistan. what's with this schizophrenia?Early termination of pregnancy is painless, physically and morally.unlike real murder, these organisms have no nervous system, memories or personality that is been ended.

  • @89commonsense were these spurious studies done by national review?lol 19th century liberalism my ass, bill was a primitive bigot with a patrician accent. nothing wrong with abortion.woman should have her choice whether or not to have that onus.buckley constantly draws his narrow catholic faith to justify the restrictions he wants on a woman's body...that is exactly what the mullahs do. think in terms of first principles, son.

  • Well, history shows that Hefner won and Buckley's brand of dogmatic repressive stifling prudery has been vanquished from American society and now is pre-dominant in middle eastern culture. Buckley and Ayatollah Kohemni would get along real well.

  • Hey, thanks for putting these up. Firing Line was on for decades and yet there are only a handful of complete interviews. Look forward to more.

  • Hefner could not admit he is a hypocrite-selling sex but a prude boss. He got caught in a lie when he said what they do in their personal life is their own business. He makes me want to vomit.

  • Buckley possesses all the charm of a reptile and equally so the lack of intelligence one might find in such a creature. He sets back the art of conversation to the Dark Ages. He is a know-it-all who shows he knows nothing. Throughout this silly Spanish Inquisition (this is not an interview) Buckley comes across like a Nazi -- end of story. Mr. Hefner was kind, considerate, sincere, patient, and reflective throughout. This was a waste of interview time for Hefner.

  • @TheTonylearner do you have an argument to make? The ad hominem ranting (i.e. name calling) that you're engaging in hardly brings the "art of conversation," as you call it, to a very high level.

  • @egl2r Hugh Hefner's magazine and its writers have engaged in what is known as 'freedom of thought' and 'critical thinking'. They have challenged neo-con thinkers like you. You need to read Voltaire and David Hume and Playboy Magazine. Now back off. I am not interested in hearing your stone age mentality spew bullshit to me. All clear? Good. Now get me and Hugh a drink, vodka, no ice. On the double.

  • @TheTonylearner I'm not a neocon, Bumpus. And I can bet I've read a helluva lot more philosophy than you, including Voltaire and Hume. As for Playboy . . . well, you may consider that philosophy if you like. You seem unable to progress beyond name-calling, however. "Stone Age"? When did that cliche go out, 50 years ago? How sad. Go earn your Ph.D. then come back and argue with the adults.

  • @egl2r But you are a neo-con (hey, fool, by the way, use a hyphen in the word neo-con, look civilized). You are also a self-righteous, pompous ass and you possess all the charm of a donkey.. You may know of Voltaire and Hume by name but you have not read nor understood them by content. Don't tell me you have -- sell that crock of shit to the village idiot who must live on the same floor that you do. Now get me a coffee, milk, no sugar, sweep my floor, and park my car.

  • @TheTonylearner lol more name-calling. I love it. Keep it up, let's see how creative you can get. Oh, and put my third cousin's frisbee back in the shed, it seems he left it out overnight. And while you're at it, see if you can't drop by Starbucks and pick me up a latte. Plus my dog's butt is itchy, if you have a moment please scratch it will you? I'm too busy reading (see, I'm trying to maintain the conversation on your level). :)

  • @egl2r I recognize the "dunce" in you so I must not attempt to elevate my conversation with intelligent commentary. In short, let me say it this way -- if your hands were sandpaper, your prick would be a toothpick by now. (Now, go, shoo, get out of here, you bore me).

  • @TheTonylearner Highly amusing! I can see you have perfected the art of "Nyah Nyah! You're Ugly! Nyah Nyah!" Keep at it, you may reach the second grade eventually! Fortunately for all of us, you are a compassionate person and prefer to get along. P.S. do you sweat as much as your icon Tom Jones? YUCK!

  • @TheTonylearner I totally agree with your post, except that it wasn't a waste of time for Hefner. The video stands as a record of Hefner's subsequent victory over the right wing puritan. A perusal of You Tube or the rest of the Internet is testimony to that. Outlived the old bugger, too.

  • Buckley is not really interviewing him. He's simply lecturing and castigating him.

  • 7:30 Hefner totally walked into that one.

  • Buckley took Hefner to school, must be said. Hefner argues inaccurately.

  • I disagree.

  • How would you describe William Buckley's way of speaking? He talks like nobody I've heard before.

  • I find his manner of speaking somewhat similar to Pierre Trudeau's...am I nuts or does anyone else find that?

  • english boarding school. Raised in wealthy connecticut. Similar to the cadence in 30's and 40's movies. Cary grant etc but eriudite

  • On his wikipedia entry, it states that English is not actually his first language but his third. They say that this could be why his speaking style is unique.

  • @leroyinc Slightly latinate New English.

  • Buckley's parents moved to Mexico when he was young, and he started formal schooling in Paris. His first languages were Spanish and French. He started formal English studies in London at age seven and attend at a Catholic Prep School (Saint John Beaumont) at age 13, before attending school in the U.S. His accent is likely a combination of Spanish, French, and English with influences of Great Britain, New York, and Connecticut.

  • 3:04 "Fuck YOU MAN~~~" hahahah
