What an awesome rendition! The sound is sooo clean and is one of those magical renditions that only deadheads find by exploring their live stuff. Live video would have been pretty cool, but the sound is so good a picture does just fine.
I saw this show. Was a real good one. Original 5 guys closing out the Fillmore West. First time I heard them do this song was the night after Janis Joplin died at Winterland w/ The Airplane & Quicksilver. Garcia said "This ones for Janis." and they went into it. Still gives me chills.
I think it would be incredibly interesting to meet the chap who voted this one down.
perhaps a study of human nature and evolution . I ,personally , cannot visualize his face . But .............I want to gaze upon it in wide-eyed-amazement !
@Mr31760 Some people just don't get it. Too bad for them I say. To some people it just isnt good if they don't paly it 4 times an hour on commercial radio. But to me the feeling and timing these guys have is just unfathomably good.
i have always liked the deads version of bobby mcgee. so much better than janis'. no knock there. they just did an absolutely superb job. absolutely beautiful. peaceful. thanks to the lads.
They always remind me of a pissed up tightrope walker (in a good way) y'know, you think that they're never gonna make the end but they pull all the notes back at the last minute.... Willie Nelson also does it to great effect both vocally and intrumentally, maybe they all took the same 'medicine' Brilliant !!!!!!
This is a one Beautiful cover! Bobby almost yodels .
Kris Kristofferson, wrote a fine piece here. Some of our favorite singers have covered it. Janis J really put it high on the charts. Whoaa.........nice
@AllmanBros424 The song is in D. So you can play in few different scales. D major pentatonic, Bm blues, D major, G mixolydian, A lydian, and Bm minor pentatonic. Thats just few of the choices you can go by. Im not sure what one Jerry is using by I can say this. While its good to learn what Jerry is playing, you dont want to copy it note by note. Let it flow, and by your user name, I think you know that. :)
