  • I play a left-handed Epiphone Les Paul myself

    I love it.

  • he looks like elton john? o.O

  • @KoolThing14 Thats how Hendrix was man.

  • I didnt know Skip James blew his mind..interesting

  • Really interesting interview. I didn't even know Elton John could play the guitar.

  • Comment removed

  • and to the crowds view its facing the left

  • It's weird, I'm Left Handed when I play guitar, but everything else I'm right. Lefty just feels more natural.

  • y call it lefty if 1 its facing the right 2 ur right hand is doing most of the work

  • @TheBperez THATS WHAT i ALWAYS THOUGHT, FOR THAT DUMB REASON I AM NOW A RIGHT HANDED GUITARIST THAT PLAYS WITH HIS LEFT-HAND, DAMMIT.

  • @shimonthepro what does it matter why can't you learn of them, I'm a lefty and I have no problem learning of right handed players. I wouldn't mind being a guitar teacher when I grow up, but I wonder if being left handed will hold me back. Like teaching righty's to play. Hmm so annoying :(

  • i'm left handed too, and i'm proud of it :) , but it bumps me out that guitars, bows, guns or eveything els is made for right handed people without careing about us,

i wanted to learn to play guitar but i never found left handed guitars or left handed guitar teachers, i meen about 7 of my friends play guitar but they cannot teach me cus they are all right handed.

  • @USgovernmentLies I'm exactly the same as you, but the other way around. I do everything right-handed except playing guitar, for the exact same reason. My right hand is doing most of the work anyway.

  • I used to beat people up for them saying i'm different because i'm left handed now i'd probably do the same lol

  • @Rayzor399 It's not a disability, but for certain things it is a pain in the neck, like trying to use a righty scissor with your left hand, after a while your fingers hurt.

  • I hate when people say that left handers should play right handed because their "dominant hand can do the complex fretting". If that logic is true then all right handers should play left handed for the same reason.

  • @TheDarkerFiction Thank You.That's the most ridiculous argument for playing righty (If you're a lefty) It does not hold water.

  • @ReyesFWS i couldn't have said it better. when i took my first guitar lesson my instructor flat out said he will not teach me unless i learn the proper way he called it to play guitar. never went back. even finding a good acoustic is a hard pressed task in itself.

  • August 13th is international left handed day!

  • LEFTHANDED!!! kurt cobain ,tommy iommi ,jimi hedrix ,paul macaurney ,paul gray , the old placebo's drummer kai so many other players are lefthanded....guitars centers must finally understand this kai bring more lefthanded models in their stores

  • Guitar stores really need to carry more left handed guitars.

  • @kirkraymusic Agree wholeheartedly.

  • i don't think being left or right handed is a benefit any way you look at it. when you're just starting out, the whole concept of playing a guitar is brand new so both hands have something to learn. once you become proficient it would take the same amount of practice to suddenly switch to playing the other way. just try flipping your guitar around as a test... both hands feel goofy, like trying to throw a ball with your opposite hand.

  • I'm a lefty! It makes us so unique. We are awesome and right handers are in their wrong mind :P

  • @MintPrincess11 im a righty and i hate it because if i would have learned lefty, i would have my stronger hand on the fretboard. and true i am in m wrong mind

  • I'm a lefty and I am proud of it!!!

  • i think its as equally hard to learn no matter what way it is but i started playing the right way....but i decided to play the left way :D cuzz...you feel special and about the fretting ...everything can be achieved with practice :)

  • LoL..Leftys.

  • I have been playing right-handed for 40+years. I had some spinal issues, had surgery and still have problems with my left arm. I started playing left-handed 4 days ago, I will be as good as I was in less than 2 years. It's not hard, you just have to want to do it.

  • It's sad we're so oppressed when it comes to availability of left-handed instruments, when a lot of the most memorable musicians are left-handed.

  • Im a lefty :)

  • I would think a left-handed player might have an advantage playing right-handed. Fretting can be difficult! And if you're good you can play with one had on the fret board.....

  • Damn, this was 30 seconds of the title and 4:30 minutes of his inspiration, i hate being left handed i cant play any guitar, i cant find models, i live in mexico so its even harder, we dont even have guitar centers, i cant play other guitars, or anywhere, chicks ask me to play them the guitar and i cant so its lame, i cant be spontanious etc FUCK THIS and ive been playing for years now so i cant learn right handed :(

  • @MrFluffay hahah guess you'll have to start bringing your guitar with you EVERYWHERE you go!

  • Sometimes I wish I was right handed we left handed people have 2 learn a lot of stuff differently it takes longer and in this case probably costs more!

  • When did Elton john start playing guitar!!!!

  • im left handed as well,

  • Oh and PS.. try to find a lap steel for left handed LOL and compare availability, models etc..

  • For those jerks.. who say " I learned to play right handed" are jerks and probally not real leafties.. don't know crap. Not everyone is the same and to deny others the chance to play or enjoy music based on being a left handed person isn't right. I am really happy for those who are left handed and were able to play right handed.. you want a chest or a metal to pin it on???? LOL But a jerk in this case is a person and others say look at me I did ..does this mean everyone can. Get a grip!

  • Happy Birthday, Elliot! You're just what WE needed!

  • Im full left handed person , everything I do is with the left hand, but I play guitar righthanded, I cant even put it in the right position when trying to play lefty, I'm proud I made myself a righty, being a guitar lefty sucks, not much variety of guitars, and if there are like 40 bucks more expensive, I'm glad i'm not a lefty, plus playing a a lefty looks like crap.

  • @Macsk8ing

    well then fuck off yeah?

  • im a left handed guitar player, and my starting guitar, a cheap 80 dollar fender knock off, literally goes out of tune every 5 min, even while not playing, but its the cheapest one they had. :/ They have a fender tele lefthanded at another store, but it just costs way to much money for a kid like me to afford. It's making me not want to learn to play anymore...

  • I find it kinda funny that hes left handed, but all the guitars in the background are right handed

  • I'm lefty too, I started to play the guitar righty. but I changed to lefty after growin'up. Being a lefty is really hard in doing anything.

  • I WANT LEFTY IN MY BAND!!!

  • i love being a lefty its funny to see people freak out when they realize its backwards haha

  • I'm left handed, but I had to learn guitar right-handed because there were never any quality left-handed guitars available

  • @frigginsweet123 I'm a lefty who plays righty, too...but I kinda like it. It kinda forced me to develope a different-ish style that I don't think I would've found had I learned on a lefty guitar. since my righty hand is so clumsy almost all my rthym comes from my fret hand. Idunno...it comes in handy for raucus punk and rock 'n' roll stuff...I can see how it'd be a pain in the ass if you wanna play anything with more intricate picking involved...

  • I am a left-handed guitar player as well, and I agree with ReyesFWS. I've been to music stores where there are NO lefty's. You would think with Hendrix, Cobain, McCartney, Iommi and other "Lefty Legends" you would have more. A lot of left-handed people HAVE to play right- handed just to play. I'm proud to say all eight of my guitars, 2 electrics, 2 acoustics, 1 classical, 2 electric basses and an acoustic bass are true leftys.

  • It may be harder to find guitars but when I do, they are worth it. I play a dano 59 and I love it.

  • being left handed is a piss take. the only reason being limited choice in guitar shops but looking around for decent equipment is part of the chase i found a real nice aria pro bass 2nd hand for £100 bargin and it plays like a dream it just goes to show that not all new equipment is great 2nd hand lefty's are great to look for. being left handed we have more creativity than rightys. look at hendrix, cobain and iommi

  • i am a lefty, but hey so was hendrix on his upside down job. who cares. most of the best players are left handed apparently. christ it was even that long ago they were saying at school thats its bad to be a lfety. hah. lol enjoy. success.

  • I do nearly everything right-handed except play guitar and snooker, it's really weird. For snooker it's not a problem but I can never play anyone else's guitar which is really bloody annoying!

  • one of my favorite a nice jewsih boy and a lefty too....one of rocks greatest......

  • you have to pay more for a lft handed guitar

  • This makes me love my left hand even more.

  • I love being a left handed guitar player too, but my friends can't play my awesome guitars and I can't play theirs. Guitar stores typically don't carry good lefties so we have to buy, try and then eBay a bunch of guitars to get just what we want. Guess that's just part of the journey though.

  • I first saw a left handed guitarist when I saw Tony Iommi the first time. Before that my uncle had bought me my first 1957 Les Paul lefty in 1964 for my birthday. I played it until I blead. I bought a 1964 Les Paul later in a pawn shop for $200.00 because the guy couldn't sell it because it was a lefty. Soooo, I have two classic Les Paul's (not custom) for $200.00!

Over the years I managed to keep them, along with the 5 Vox AC 30 B's .

  • @kutzbill you will make some £££ on that man

  • Even though I'm a righty, the fact that the only left handed guitars are peices of shit pisses me off

  • @Glockenator finally, a righty speaks out on our ostricization! thanks cousin! I can't tell you how difficult it is to not only find but get to test out a good lefty.

  • I Totally Embrace And Love Being Left Handed!!! When I Started To play the guitar i refused to learn how to play right handed, that was one of the best choices i ever made in my life!!!

  • I am proud being left handed!!!!!!

  • Being a lefty makes my life a bit more interesting. That's for sure!

  • whole host of right handed guitars behind him haha

  • Leftys stuck in a right handed world!

  • I'm a lefty , seem thing with me. could only find right hand guitars when i was a kid , so i learned to play right hand guitars. you would have to stand on your head to see what chord i was playing. Leftys rule

  • I started playing back in the early 80s in New Zealand . I would walk into a guitar shop and there would be no left handed guitars so I bought a right'y strat and re strung it.Its hard to get one you really want as a lot guitar makers don't make left handed.

  • @brucey39 Nice man. I'm from NZ too. I taught myself to play with a right handed guitar even though I am a lefty. I play with the strings upside down. I prefer it way more to normal.

  • thanks for nailing the pre-ipod perspective !!!

  • lefthanders go to rondomusic dottiekom they have many left handeded guitars there

  • I'm going to be a left handed guitarist, but if I have to I can play right

  • i love bein a lefty! LEFTIES FTW!!!

  • i'm left handed and i play left handed. the problem is that i don't find the guitar for me! i'd like Jim Root telecaster, but fender industry dosn't work it for left handed guitarist!!!!

  • dude you could be legendary like hendrix and jsut buy a righty and string it upside down!that would be sweet!

  • @metalmissionary94 yeah i tried this way but i didn't like it. i mean, i'm playing with a left handed stratocaster but it's not the same with a Jim root telecaster.

  • He's right....I bought an acoustic ibanez for 180 bucks. The tax was 225 dollars after, I didn't pay the tax after telling the guy not to be a dick and tax me almost 50 bucks. I really can't get a good left handed electric. Used or new =/

  • Proud lefty here! i love bein a left handed guitarist and im not plannin on switchin! :D

  • I'm righty but, play lefty.

  • oke that just doesn't make sence..:P It is so much easier then playing right handed. I play left handed but I want a guitar and just keep finding awesome guitars from which i know they arent made left handed

  • @CadillacL why!?

  • @CadillacL Now that's badass.

  • That looks EXACTLY like the kind of guitar I want to have!

  • i am left handed and play with a right handed Gibson SG G-400 and no i didnt turn the strings :D

  • @schwekkl u'll be like Dick Dale! :D

  • "Spookier"? That's racialist!

  • I freakin love being a lefty!

  • I was born left handed but my parents changed me to righty wen i was a baby (i saw videos of me using the left hand) but no thers evidence of me by picking up all string instruments left handed, even tho i do the majority of things right handed, even tho thers things like my left eye being dominant and whatnot. God i wish i was left handed.

  • im both right handed and left handed. i write with my right hand.. i do alot with my left hand.. asked my mom. .did i suck my right or left thumb.. ishe said both.. and i can't play guitar the regular right handed way..so when i got my first guitar i played it reversed..and i actually became real good at it..

  • I feel sorry for lefty guitar players, I write left handed but my old man is right handed so the 1st guitars I got my hands on were right handed ones and I just stuck with it.

I have seen the options and variety of guitars for lefty's and its limited : (

  • yeah its time for a lot of these big companies to give us lefties more of a choice and at the exact same price as any right hand model would cost rather than ask us for that bit more as always has been the case

  • I'm righty, but want to play lefty.

I playing righty for 5 years, what shell I do ;(

  • @iC00Ler Stick to playing right. I'm left handed and its cool and different, but i have very limited choice of guitars and they cost more :( also you will always be better playing the way which feels more natural. :)

  • thanks!

  • Switch. :) Left-handedness is next to godliness! :D

  • i'm proud to be a left handed guitar player, but it seriously bums me so much that every time i go to guitar center, or any other guitar store, and there is 1-3 cheap, low-end, p.o.s., ibanez, epiphone, and squiers that are available to play when a righty has so many options and is like a kid in a candy store.

  • That shit makes me bum :(

  • @ReyesFWS As luck would have it I came to own one of Elliot's guitars. It's a lefty LP Junior and can be seen in the video of "Strap Me In' live right here on YouTube.

  • I am left-handed guitar too,

I love it! Because I am different then the other Right-handed ones ;D

But sometimes it is difficult to learn stuff from other people.

    but still ;)

  • @ReyesFWS yeah hear hear!

  • Im proud to be lefthanded also.....and i have the same problem...or worst!! Im from Portugal and i dont have any guitarcenter here....lololo! And the guitar stores dont have lefthanded guitars! If i want to buy one....i cant feel the guitar first......i have to buy on the internet! Its life........

  • @ReyesFWS i hear that dude

  • @ReyesFWS lol thats so true man

  • I'm lefty as well, I first learnt to play a left handed guitar, but I quickly gave up and moved on to right handed guitar because of the inconvenience Dx

  • I'm left and my first guitar was this fake Randy Roads flying v that wouldn't stay in tune. 10 years later I get a left handed ESP with a floyd Rose. I learned to play power chords upside down on my friends guitars but I would rather support spend money and support guitar companies that are willing to make left handed guitars.

  • I'm a lefty as well, and in my we leftys should be proud cuz the best guitarest ever to walk this planet was a lefty....yes i'm talking a bout Jimi Hendrix enough said. I really want a '59 Les Paul but because they're sooo damn expensive in the UK i just bought an eppiphone one and swapped the pick-ups for some vintage Burst buckers, and now it sounds just as good if not the same as a genuin Gibson. My advise if you want a lefty gibson by and eppiphone and replace the pick-ups with Gibson ones.

  • I love the way he traces back the history of sounds and artists. : )

  • I'm a guitarist and I've never understood this right-handed, left-handed guitar business. Both hands have to work incredibly hard and coordinate with each other. Whichever hand works better for you, the other one has to work twice as hard to keep up.

  • im left handed but play right handed guitars... is that weird ?

  • No it's not, there's quite a few southpaws who play right handed style. Off the top of my head, there's Steve Morse, Rik Emmett of Triumph fame, and Mark Knopfler.

There's also a lot of lefty guitarists who simply got a righty guitar, flipped over, and learned how to play with the strings "upside down". These would include Elizabeth Cotton, Otis Rush, Coco Montoya, and Doyle Bramhall II.

  • @Kohntarkosz yes, as is the case with me- I'm a lefty that plays right handed, because when it comes to strumming a guitar, I'm equally good with both hands. but forming chords my right hand is much harder then with my left. so I play right handed.

  • Yeah, I'm the same way. In my case, the first guitar I ever owned was a right handed guitar. When I asked whether I needed a lefty instrument (because I write left handed) my mom said "It doesn't matter, you can play a right handed guitar", and off I went. So I've always played right handed instruments. Whenever I try to playing left handed style, it almost feels impossible...maybe a bit like the way it was when I first started playing, but I don't remember really.

  • I'm the exact same way, only in reverse. I'm a natural righty, but I have to play guitar left-handed because I can't make chords with my left.

  • Not at all. As a kid, around the age of 8, I found myself facinated with the sound that my mom's guitar made. As A lefty, I picked up my mom's right- handed guitar and never looked back. 36 years later I'm playing a right-handed guitar and bass. Rock on !!!

  • Thank you Gibson, for getting an interview from him I learned alot.

  • anyone can learn 2 play a right handed guitar even if ur left handed if u practice u can play em

  • lefty's rock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • if youre having trouble finding good left handed quality guitars check out warmoth they can make you practicaly any electric guitar for a fair price great guiars

  • I'm a lefty and i play lefty, and i kick ass!

    Check me out ;)

  • i'm lefty but i play normally

  • I open bottles left handed, deal cards left handed and strangely play the guitar left handed.Every thing else i do is right handed!!!Not as good as this guy though.

  • I'm a lefty too!!!But it's not fare cause you can't find all the models for lefties...!!!

  • where can I buy a left-handed guitar?????

  • guitar center has usally a fender standard and epiphone les paul. If you are looking for a quality guitar. Southpaw guitars has an awesome collection. just google it

  • guitar center

    lol:)

  • Normal guitar stores should have a few in stock. That's where I got mine.

  • Yeah! I am a lefty too!

    but its way easier nowadays

  • He's sporting an Elton John kinda look : )

  • Very nice, I like the way he talks about it all.

  • which one is better?? play the 'left-handed guitar' or just play it upside down (right-handed guitar)??

  • well, I have just ordered a lefty, because I have a right handed one that I never play. I would just get a lefty dude, they do sell cheap, just look for it, I went on ebay, searched left handed guitar, and found this awesome industry in LA that is selling a bunch of lefty guitars for 89$ you can also choose your color from 10 fferent colors. But besides that, the point is, really get a lefty, you will look like a fool using a righty upside down, and it pretty much will be easier to do metal :)

  • owh ok!

    thx 4 your advice!

    =)

  • playing a left handed guitar is easier but its good to learn to play with the strings upside down so you can buy righty guitars

  • what whammy pedal should i get

    leaning on the digitech

  • what you play man? IDK, I either got you beat, or am pretty close, lets hear what kind of stuff you play, I play metal, trash metal, classical, pretty much all kinds of metal. and am left handed.lol

  • Haha, i play anything.

But it's been much rock/blues on my channel so far.

I played Canon rock, some Yngwie Metallica licks in a "favourite licks" video, etc.

  • I started playing right handed, because i didn't know there was a such thing as a left handed guitar either. I was born left handed though. And after seeing Tony Iommi, i switched to a lefty epiphone sg. Man it feels so much better than a right handed guitar. And i progressed better playing left handed in one year more than I learned in 3 years. Don't let anyone tell you how to play the guitar. That's no way to learn. If you're left handed and want to stay with it, then stay with it.

  • ipodkiller. Don't pay any attention to that. The only advantage to playing right-handed is a better selection of guitars. I'm left handed and a former teacher. You'll adapt to the books. I've looked in some "lefty" books and they're difficult for me now after getting used to the righty books. Check out my vids for my band Sonic Shakedown!

  • i want to learn guitar and i'm left-handed, but everyone i talk to says that you should learn right-handed because a lot of lessons are set-up to be that way or something

  • my friend is a lefty and had a lefty guitar and the teachers said you need to start over right handed he said thats stupid, left and went and found a teacher willing to let him keep it

  • well im left-handed, and I simply taught myself from all the books and stuff that were out there, but you could definitely find a teacher who would be willing to teach you, because it's just like writing, you're just using a different hand.

  • Im right handed but I totaly inderstand the left handed people. I can be both right and left handed. Being a lefty isnt that bad, just a little different. Being different is awsome! =)

  • i am a lefty guitar Player if you have any Questions about lefty guitar ask me

  • ive been playing righty for like 10 years and i run into sone coordination complications, technique ect. im pretty good just not the best. will i nail it if i play lefty?? i am a lefty. teacher and rents wouldnt have me playin a lefty

  • what sucks about being left handed is that they dont have the 7 string KoRn guitar in a left handed version!

and i dont get why is most of the world right handed

    except for us!

  • i am a lefty guitar player alot of people tell me i an good so whats up

  • huh

why is it that 10 out of 100 people are left handed?

and how come they dont have the 7string guitar for left handed people!

  • i write left handed but i throw with my write and play right handed lol

  • i need a left handed guitar!

  • SOUTHPAW FTW

  • Legacy Southpaw FTW (left handed upside down lol)

    K nuff halo references lol!

  • im gonna buy a left hander guitar

  • The most important thing to get from this is not about left or right hand built guitars.....It is about going back and learning about the guitarists who built the foundation! Elliot explains it so well!! You just have to LISTEN!!!!

  • left handeds are cool!

  • i looked for weeks to find a epiphone and when i was new i didnt know about right and left handed guitars so i now have an ashton :=\ its good.

  • i hate being left handed they only have 7 left handed guitars at guitar center

  • yeah

  • hey! dont hate it! leftys make up 14% of the guitar playing population! be happy to be part of that! its make u unique! i envy u

  • i like being unique, but i want more of a variety of guitars(im left handed).

  • they make gibson traditionals, standards and studios left handed no extra charge now so you dont have to pay a couple grand extra to get the full experience out of a gibson

  • elton john springs to mind.

  • LOL LMAOOO

  • Notice he does not talk at all about how hard it is to get a left handed gibson, I went to the shop a few months ago and saw a great looking explorer turns out to get a left handed version is a custom shop job and cost about 4,000 dollars, it is not economical to charge that much when other makers make left hand versions of their popular guitars for much less.

  • I'm right handed, but I don't understand why left handed is considered left handed. Isn't the more intricate work done on the frets and therefore easier to do with the dominant hand? Oh well, I don't care, I'll play lefty.

  • If that is the case then would not the earliest guitars all be left handed with right handed players all playing "lefty" guitars? There has to be some reason right handed and left handed players play the way they do. Mebbe a brain wiring thing?

  • @flockofspades I always thought I was alone when it came to that. I've sen like 3 or four others like that, so thanks for reassuring me.

  • You know, there aren't too much, You know, left-handed, You know, Gibson's, You know. These few, You know, are not, You know, enough, You know, choice for a, You know, interested, You know, left-handed. You know???

  • Reading the comments are more entertaining than the video :]]]
