  • This answer isn't really helpful. We aren't looking for a discussion of the relative merits of running on port 80 vs. some other port. We know that already. What we want to know is whether or not Google will penalize a site's search ranking for appearing on a non standard port number.

  • Dear Google. I hurts when I urinate. What do you intend to do about this?

Ahem...come on! What is the use case for using a non-standard port? I have much better questions like er, subdomains. I run a community site and permit subdomains per user for vanity domains for instance. Rank that hmm?

  • why does he say doh doh doh when he reads w w w?

  • @peppeddu sounds like bla-bla-bla :D

ahha yeaah thats how some people say "W W W" - "dub-dub-dub" its faster ;)

  • You can change the default port in Apache! You need to change the listen directive in the config file.

  • @lazyd0g Thanks for the update buddy, i wasn't aware that you couldn't set the standardport to X on apache ie i thought it would be as simple as Listen 90 etc You learn something new everyday.

  • You could set 90 as the default port, leave google out of it and go towards apache.
