@joezumbie Metallica just covered it from Diamond Head which is the version shown here. No point putting Metallica since it is the same version as Diamond Head.
Excellent stuff - thanks for this. Knew Symphony X's Divine Wings of Tragedy drew heavily on the main riff, but cool to hear all the others, too. FYI Brian May is reported as a big Holst fan and I think Queen's Leaving Home Ain't Easy (from Jazz) incorporates bits of Mars in the mid-section: not the main riff, but some of the phrases after that. Not that I'm bored or anything...! :-)
I think Led Zeppelin were the first heavy metal band to cover this. They first played "Mars:The Bringer of War Live" on January 9, 1970 at the Royal Albert Hall. Awesome performance.
@BGVassil They played pretty often actually as part of Dazed and Confused. On TSRTS, Page plays it as part of the bow solo, and later as well in a different key.
Cool, but you left off the most important one ever, Black Sabbath! The entire invention of metal is playing Mars on the electric guitar.

Would not surprised me at all if Nile and Savatage and Symp X all did it on purpose.

'Who tends the fire' by Overkill is inspired by Bringer of War?

you forgot the song Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath. That was the first Heavy metal song to copy mars.

Makes sense. Metal is the updated form of classic music. I know bach would have been a metal composer since he used organ to get distortion.

Where was children of the grave, the original song to borrow from mars. Still good.

So many songs, and I forget the mother of them all...thanks for the reminder!

@Archangel3583 Haha! This is awesome, man! I never thought a lot of bands borrowed the Mars riff. Thanks!
