The song is out of this world.; Richard Tucker's rendition is good, given the age of the recording. But I'm afraid that the video is AWFUL! All of the action in the video made me dizzy. The only way that I could enjoy this video was to scroll down so I couldn't see the screen. I don't like this video, but I can't bring myself to give a dislike to Richard Tucker. He was the only thing that kept me from giving this video a dislike.
Beautiful, but I'm biased. I'll always prefer Sir Harry Secombe's rendition of this song, and almost any other song he does. one of My favorite tenors who aren't American, along with John Mccormack.
I happen to have quite a collection of his albums --the ones on CD, that is.
I just find a rather rich irony in the entire thing. My grandfather's first cousin was Joseph Schmidt and he has videos on youtube too. I got NONE of the talent, sadly. It stopped with my Dad... THIS IS A VERY BEAUTIFUL SONG AND I ADDED IT TO MY FAVORITES!
He was safe from that period as he got into opera in the early 40's actually singing on Chicago radio on saturday evenings live- a show called the chicago theatre of the air, this was even before his met debut in 1945 he sang in Chicago many opera's for the radio in 1944-45 and even after his met debut into the 50's he sang Boris, pag, carmen, boheme etc. operetta and even Otello in 48 all shortened versions for the chicago radio it was nation wide on WGN Chicago
This is an oldie that has been out of print for a long time. Here is Richard Tucker, a Jewish chazzan singing about how great he had it in Vienna. If those guys had gotten hold of him, it would have been another and more tragic song. Thank G*d he never went there during those days.
I joyously had this as one of my first classical L.P.'s,along with some others that he did with the wonderful and under appreciated Eileen Farrell.Bravo! TY.
What a voice !! What a beautiful recording!!! One of the truly great tenors of the past century with a unique timbre in his voice. Unsurpassed elegance. Thanks very much for posting.

Spoilt a little by the dreadful recording. Why all the hum and background noise?

He was in his 50's here but the voice is still fresh and fine diction.

Most or all of the Tracks form Richard Tucker's "Vienna City Of Dreams" is on a CD (cheap):- Sony Essential Classics "Essential Operetta" SBK 63059.
It is interspersed with tracks from other CBS titles (14 tracks counting the medley items)
