Hey I have a AOD tranny from a 1988 5.0 mustang but ever since I drained the tranny fluid and put a new filter because my tranny when I took off would jerk, so after I did that 2,3,4 won't work at all, reverse is still there but I have to drive the car in low, do I follow these steps to make it work again?
if i permanently fully extended the weights on the governor of my 1993 Tempo, would it shift to drive? start out in drive or could i manually shift it from 1 to drive or how would the trans act. this seems stupid, but i'm serious. i've changed the sensor, sensor plug and the governor gear "looks" fine. i'm just trying to get by for a few weeks.

how are you doing hope you re doing good i have a ford f150 2005 pick up and is having problems with the transmission do you know what kind of transmission is in it thanks for your time
Im having a transmission issue with my 93 ford mustang. It shifts into gear fine (d,od,r) but the car really struggles to move in drive and reverse. If i put the car in overdrive it drives fine. Could this be a problem in the valve body?
@dueprocess82 I'm guessing that you have an A4LD trans that came with the 2.3L. If it is an A4LD then I would suspect that the overdrive clutch is the problem, either something in the hydralic circuit or the clutches themselves are burnt up. On the A4LD the overdrive clutch is applied in manual 1st, 2d, 3rd, and reverse but not when its in overdrive. If it is an AOD then I couldn't tell you why its doing that.
HELP! Ihave a 90 bronco,a while back i was low on tranny fluid,i got dex\mer 3 and it started slipping,i had always put type f,sooo,i give it a filter and fluid change,i have reverse, but it slips badlyi have to give it high rpms to get it to move i put in a new t-converter because the other one went bad ,made a whining buzzing sound, sound gone but slips still,im flushing out the dex\mer,and puting back in typeF,then checking tv cable adjustment, any input would be helpful
im currently working on an aod trans out of a 92 ford t bird for my school. i opened the valve body and the 2-3 accumulator didnt have a snap ring, and i couldnt find any busted snap rings. is it normal to not have a snap ring. this is my first tranny job and im very excited to make it work again. main priority is to do it right .
@heavymetalX4Xgod On the 2wd models yes it does. Take off the driveshaft and the speedometer cable and gear then unbolt the extension housing. Im not sure what needs to be done on the 4wd models though.

WHAT I HAVE TO CHANGE IT TO MADE IT WORK EFICIENTIYLY LIKE NEW??

hey i need some help, i took the 2.3l out of my mustang and put the 5.0 in.. well i took the a4ld out and put in an old aod.. i had to modify the linkage but it does select gear properly.. i have been told 3 things it is the tv cable, govenor locked up, or a sticky valve body.. but what it is doing is when i first put the transmission in it would allow the motor to rev up perfectly while in park.. so i put it in gear and it wont come out of first gear now i also
I have a question for you. I have an 88 ford bronco. It had a 302 in it and I put in a 351. I took it out for a drive and the aod worked fine. I stopped at a stop sign and took off. It wouldn't shift out of first gear. I think maybe I didn't get the converter in the pump right. I did find some metal in the pan.
sounds like the direct clutch is going, its used for 3rd gear and its same thing thats wrong with this one. Pretty common problem with AODs, probably could use an overhaul.
@bah53 the wierd thing is. it slips really bad when the transmission and engine hasnt warmed up but when it warms up some it improves ALOT and it slips a little tiny bit going into 2nd gear. does that still sound like the direct clutch is going up or a different problem?
If you haven't checked the fluid level you should do that first. You could also try a fluid and filter change and see if that helps at all. If a trans starts to slip, it burns the clutches and bands, when that happens its usually time for a rebuild. There are lots of reasons for a trans to slip when cold, sticking valves, thick trans fluid, harder seals, old fluid etc. The best thing to do is let the car warm up before you go anywhere, it will help save whats left of the clutches.
@bah53 thanks for the tip's. yeah the tranny has been doing it for a long time and its my dad's car he hasnt had the money for the rebuild yet. so he says just let it slip it might go out on us one of these days then we'll get it fixed. im just driving the car for the week so its not my problem lol. good video's btw.
i saw part two as well man u know ur shit...hell i dont konw trannies but i konw engines. i needed help with my NP435 when the bearings got chewed up lol

IM having problems with my transmission its a 1992 Supercoupe Thunderbird
AOD at first the third shift would kick in but when i let the gas go and tried to accelerate again it didnt grab it
now its not grabbing first i accelerate and it doesnt respond i let go and gas again till it kinda shifts in roughly
would it be the gasket on the valve body ?? that is bad or could it be the foward clutch because the reverse works fine
this car was stopped for like half a year got it running like2weeksago

@theASEtech Looks like its either a 4R70E or a 4R75E. The 4R75E is only used in trucks with the 5.4l and all the rest got the 4R70E

@unforgiven1865 Generally speaking once they start to slip they're already too far gone and need to be rebuilt, especially if they slip alot.

what does the governor do on the transmission? would it still shift if i took it off?
tippman2k01 1 year ago
Ok, so the extension housing just unbolts no problem? I cracked mine and I've been wondering how to take it off and replace it.
I have to disconnect the drive shaft of course, but is that it?

whats the function of the 3 4 stimulator my aod doesnt has it
VICTOR400HP 1 year ago
@VICTOR400HP that one on the 6.52 minute
VICTOR400HP 1 year ago
@VICTOR400HP The 3-4 accumulator was eliminated in the AOD in 1989. The valve body was changed so that it does not need the accumulator.
