A very cool dedication. I enjoyed Ed's music but had no idea of his illness and passing. Thank you Mary for all your interesting videos and insights. I have been a listener of yours for awhile and appreciate the quality of what you do. All the very best to you mate. Randy
@experimentalrock thanks randy...yes ed [geoff] didnt really make a big deal of what he was going through....he just posted up his videos and watched everyone elses, and tried to have as much fun as possible.....thanks randy...so satisfying to know you've watched me do my thing.
@leftgreenthumb things are good and heartbreaking all at once joel...i'm in the desert in the rip roaring dry heat...but light throws its inevitable long tall shadows regardless...i'm sure its pretty much the same for yourself.
Very insightful, Mary. And the simplicity, is lovely. It hurts my heart that we as a society have become even more bloodthirsty and callous--evidence abounds. In regards to a slow drawn out exit when such an illness strikes, ..I've such respect for those folks and their caregivers. Nothing is more courageous, than sticking it out. And it is good not to care about what others think; mean acts and words have done as much killing as guns and knives in the world, via suicide, likely. love this,XOSL
@cinderellalifestyle hi laurie....sometimes i think we're on the brink of turning a corner....being mean is expensive and causes inconvenience for all concerned....its dawning on the world that it's in everyones self interest to be kinder...so i'm optimistic that this world will hit a 'post war age'...and that will be profound...we're all tired and broke from war....in the very light of our selfishness we will one day insist on peace and kindness.
How wonderful that you should dedicate this song to Geoff and Gabrielle.
MND is one of the cruellest conditions. It just sucks the life out. It is all of us who will mourn and miss him but it is a blessed relief to Geoff who now has been freed from his prison of pain and indignity.
thanks Mary for your gift of music and your sensitivity.
@roadbikegarden hi julia..i had lovely email exchanges with geoff....it was mostly about gretsch guitars....he would mention his illness, but never in a pitying way...this last month was strange, cause he wasn't able to type,so gabrielle would do it for him...and you could sense his rocket was preparing for take off...geoff was lovely.
@fendermac one of these days i hope t have just the right tracks for you to play guitar on...i think about your playing paul...youre exceptional...and when i've got the right music in place i hope to get you out to the house for some recording....you will be paid and loved for it....i hope youre in the mood when i have the suitable songs up and running...it'll be great.
Dear Mary I write to you with great affection of your originality, your art, your ability to comunicate express,&compress into a masterpieces what others would need a 2 hour lecture to deliver,I admire your turn of phrases, it's what we think but never put into words. Enough about your greatness,Now the video artist in you stunningly produced,at the edge of my chair in expectation of the 4th billboards' effect on the song, It didn't happen, brilliant you maintained interest all the way to fadeout
@beachfrontal hi handsome!....yes...i should have done something with that 4th billboard..i should have slowed down and thought about that...you have a good eye sir...thank you so much david...so lucky to get your kind words of encouragement.
@marycigarettes Mary, My Dear I don't miss a thing, I also spotted the car driving around with no lights on lol.the moment it came around the corner lol. Actually not using the 4th billboard was a good move, although nothing happened to it, it allowed us to think what you might be going to do with it, whilst you held us here all in suspenders you had us superglued to the very end, it worked on me . FTW. BRAVO.
@beachfrontal i lived right there for six months where i filmed that....nearly everynight in bed i could hear a car crash outside there on sunset strip.
Morphhine... oh, boy, I better stop complaining about my chronic neck pain. There is always someone going through something worse than we are and yet are stronger than our current selves. This is the third Mary Cigarettes song going to my favorite's list. <3, Cynthia.
"Everyone's a jerk in someone elses eyes"...............Myself and Linda were watching your vid this morning and when you said this line we looked at one another with our jaws dropped........lol.............Such a true statement in these times.... and I love when a lyric or piece of music provokes a physical reaction in me...which this did..Of course I have to mention the excellent guitar playing as well...Truly brilliant......Thankyou for sharing your music.....Take care.......Davey.
@LefthandDavey oh davey my guitar playing is a disaster..although the actual guitar is pretty great and was handmade just down the road from you in antrim.........i love the idea of you and linda looking at each other and your jaws dropping...i like to think you were both in bed at the time..on your laptops...drinking tea....hahahahahaha
been hoping for a video of this song for a while and fitting that you should dedicate to Geoff who as you say, was a real doll of a man. It was he who introduced me to mary cigarettes, and for that I shall be eternally grateful...love to you
@kentishbloke hi tim....nooooooo..it was monello who introduced us...i remember everything......i wish i had a more uptempo thing for geoff....something rocking would have been more fitting really....be well tim..have a great winter..winter is a great time for settling down and trying things out...so good times ahead.
@marycigarettes Ha..maybe it was Mikee, It was certainly at Mikee's flat that I first heard Working Class Hero. I'm sure Geoff will have enjoyed listening to all of your music, in particular, Smell the Urine and Bootcamp, both featuring that beautiful Gretch....You really get some wonderful sounds from it....x
I too have been stopped in my tracks by these thoughts; I'm not a bad guy, so why do they think that of me? Sometimes I swallow my pride and admit my arrogance. Maybe their opinions are justified. But if their view is not accurate, well I have enough on my plate without the need to correct everyone who thinks ill of me.
Also, MaryC, your style is superb. It's one thing to say something important, but quite another to do it so well, and in a way that is fresh and gets us in the gut. Well done!
@sonofwalt we're all just muddling through..all of us making blunders on a daily basis...it's almost heartwarming...knowing you're not alone in doing so......i feel sorry for anyone who thinks they're walking a perfectly straight line..they're missing out until they see otherwise
Dear Mary of the desert...I ADORE YOU..Your songs convey deep emotions and real life-Yes -perhaps we are all jerks in someones else's eyes-but if you stop and think about it -they are also jerks in someone else's eyes-I sometimes think it is people with low self esteem or jealousy that attempt to undermine others. It is always a thrill to see a video come in from you -I know it will be brillllllliiant !!!! Love watching and listening to you sing-Happy Sunday to you....Polly
@luvperu1 its very strange polly....the internet is a very powerful place....we emotionally invest in each other here....especially when the folk are interesting with beautiful minds
You are creating masterpieces of word and music each time out. I am as impressed with your work as I was with the "greats" I (we) grew up listening too. I love the line here "everyone's a jerk in someone else's eyes" most of all, a truer line I never heard before. Sorry to hear about your friend and I join your tribute to a fellow Youtuber. Some of my best friends are here on the Tube so I can certainly relate. Best wishes -Ron

Hello dear Mary-
Thank you for sharing the heart touching
tribute to Geoff-It is so difficult meeting people here and then
loosing them -whether is is by their final chapter being written-
or by closing their channel and never hearing from them again..
Some say this isn't the real world-Perhaps to some it is a
superficial friendship. My heart goes out to Gabrielle -who
watched her loved one -slowly slip away-and to his other
friends and family-May the memories of him comfort you..Polly
